Please explain what "guaranteed" means for the new reward boxes

A "guaranteed chance" doesn't guarantee getting anything but a chance. Definitely not a guaranteed item the way it's worded.

The used of misleading "guarantee" is an usual "wild" marketing tool to entice trustfulness and give the "consumer" an illusion of sure reward.

Few players pay attention to the fact that such terms doesn't mean an actual (specific) result, but only the chance of some result. Those terms seems the same but there are huge differences between them.

It's (kind of) like the lame market subterfuge to sell something for $ 1.99. It gives the numeric illusion that the price is close to "one dollar plus some coins", but in fact you are buying the stuff for as close as possible to 2 dollars.

The idea is to present the product as a good chance to the consumer, but in fact he/she is not getting any real advantage.

This is misleading. But technically not a fraud.

Just got word back on the "guaranteed chance" wording. So to clarify in the Society of the Steadfast's Largesse Coffer, the meaning is that you are guaranteed a chance of getting one of the following in the coffer:
    • Guaranteed chance for random crafting materials
    • Guaranteed chance for a High Isle treasure
    • Guaranteed chance for a style item for High Isle motifs
    • Guaranteed chance for a High Isle overland set item
    • Guaranteed chance for companion gear

So you will 100% get one of those potential items labeled with "Guaranteed chance" in that list in the Society of the Steadfast's Largesse Coffer. That's in addition to:

-Chance for one of the following:
    • High Isle furnishings
    • High Isle furnishing recipe
    • High Isle Treasure Map or Survey Report
    • High Isle motif page
-Small chance for a tradeable page of the new Oaken Order armor style

We will also update the article accordingly. Hopefully that helps clear things up. I'll confirm the The Ascendant Hoard Box question tomorrow.

I pointed this out in the event thread. A chance (probability) is anywhere between 0 and 100. You are always guaranteed A chance. If you fix it or set it, the particular chance is guaranteed. That doesn't tell you what the chance or probability is. It may just be a 5 per cent chance. So not much of a good chance. But guaranteed at that chance! Guaranteed chance (of 5 percent)!

In other words, it makes no sense when what you mean is, 'you'll definitely get one of the following'.

I suggest you change how you talk about chance and probability. Maybe to 'you may get one of these; you certainly get at least one of these'.

Because do you really mean guarantee in its usual legal sense anyway? I think you meant 'certain' in its probability sense.

I'm jealous. They keep giving me surveys and making me go get the materials myself.

Yes same. It seems the probabilities are not the same between the options in the 'guaranteed chance' box. Looks like some have higher odds than others. Further reasons to change how they explain it.

Misleading is enough to be against the consumer laws of my country.
