Nerfed from 3-4 jabs per strike (333ms per strike vs 200ms)
Buffed: lower cost, AOE portion of the attack by 25%, +7% damage increase.

✭✭✭✭✭it would be great for cleave dmg, but not necessarily good dmg against a single target
and with the nerf to burning light and reduction of 1 dmg tick will have to see what the performance difference is between live and the new version
with the duration reduction being easier to weave that should be nice, it was always an awkward skill to weave properly, or attempt to weave properly
right now my stamplar is using 2h maelstrom with jabs, but the maelstrom might be getting nerfed some too
ive considered swapping to duel wield if the 2h maelstrom is too nerfed and my current options for the duel wield would probably be the maelstrom duel wield to buff flurry (i think it would also buff radiant destruction too, good for the executes lol), or i would go with the blackrose duel wield to buff blade cloak (since that is getting a huge duration increase)plays PC/NA

✭✭For PvE? Lower single target DPS than flurry, but cleave... And I don't see it being that much less than flurry. Not the end of the world.
PVP? Same, but if you come across someone wearing maras balm, you'll be healing them at 3k HPS after battle spirit due to the snare refresh. While if your have do 4.5k (mine on PTS fully buffed) it's 2.25 k per poke after battle spirit, then armor with minor protection probably takes you to 1.25k per Jab. So 3.75k damage in that same second so netting 750 damage. If someone's running evasion of any sort, you might be healing your target.1 -

mmtaniac✭✭✭✭✭Templar is jabs , jabs is templar , templar without jabs is not templar anymore. If you want to use other spammabe you need to change class or you lost that thing that make you templar. I think they worded it wrong. My jabs on PTS tooltip was slightly higher per poke so it seemed like a net 20% loss. The burning light CD was the real hit. And PVP; maras balm will be the death nail0 -

✭✭✭As a templar main, I couldn't care less about nerfs to jabs. They can nerf it into the ground for all I care, it'll get buffed again in the future. However what pisses me off is the change to the jabs animation. They made it objectively worse, no argument. They could buff the new animation to deal 1 million dps with the press of one button, but I still I won't touch my templar, let alone play it, if the animation change goes through. It looks bad and feels bad to use compared to the old jabs; my templar (which has been my main for 8 years) is just a dedicated crafting mule now.Edited by merpins on 20 August 2022 08:405 -

Ariordin✭✭✭✭They will change how the combat mechanics works on way or another. Including jabs. It feels like they are fishing for fixes to server issues. I don't think these changes are meant to help players, but the back end.
In the end Jabs and every other skill will continue to 'evolve' until they get it right. the one thing that is imperative though is reverting the new terrible jabs animation to either the original, or updating all the aedric spear ability skills animations to matching new 'templar' like animations. Not a stolen necromancer staff.0 -
mmtaniac✭✭✭✭✭I play current templar and i don't see much loss on damage with jabs ,off course 1 less tick but they remove damage from that one tick not overall damage right now you do same damage as before you do with 3 ticks with lower cast time off course jabs still can hit like wet noodles without potent armor penetration it feels like [snip]. One thing is worse in those jabs they reduce ability with that one tick they removed 1 tick of damage and reduce channel but they they should reduce cost of jabs too by that 10-15% when they reduced by that one tick.
I like change to burning light, finally you can play with other spammables if you want and proc it.
Not tested jabs in pvp but jabs as only spammable have too many counters major minor evasion and whole medium armor is jabs counter roll dodge reduce aoe damage by few %. We have major minor evasion but we don't have similiar debuff in game that increase aoe damage. POTL need something unique right now we have worse debuff that is easiest to get by just light attack we can get in that place those debuff i describe ccounter to major evasion and this ability will get some flavor to stamplar again and our loss damage from jabs nerf will return somehow.

I've reached the point where, as much as I disliked the nerfs to my main (which is sorc), I'd be able to swallow U35 as a whole if they just fixed the Templar jab animation to not look so incredibly unnatural. It's that final hit thrust, where you're pulling back for the third hit, that looks especially bad and awkward. That stiffly moving upper body when pulling back...It doesn't look or feel good. Especially when you're doing fast paced spear combat with lots of enemies, it gets especially bad looking.
I preferred the previous final hit animation, where you took the spear in one hand and were using mostly your elbow and a single shoulder to thrust.
Templar used to be my fav class, in spite of it not being my main's....

Ariordin✭✭✭✭I understand the desire to fit jabs into a more light attack friendly timing. It was insulting to templar players to nerf their main spamable so badly... but refining the math of the game is a chief goal of theirs. The new animation on the other hand was just serious insult to injury. Everything went wrong for jabs all at once.
While I wish the Dev's would at least come out and say 'we hear you'... I can accept that's not likely.
So now we lie, we wait, in the darkness before the dawn. Waiting for U36 to see if they will Save Jabs.3
