With all respect I feel with this guy, I disagree. I think ESO has foundations of game mechanics which are far from average. He was talking about innovative approach to MMOs - well, he didn't notice innovative things here at all, because he was trying to look for a standard things, which people take for granted in MMOs.
I'm also extremely tired of traditional MMO experience. However I feel like I'm playing this game not because it's 'TES MMO' or because it's cool new thing. It makes me experience something I never experienced before. Some elements are definitely innovative. All the bugs etc. - those are details.
I'm sure he would notice that and start actually liking the game if he spent at least 24 hours playing.
I think we just have to wait and see (and hope developers will not break the essential and innovative parts because of complaints of 'traditionalists')!

What essential and innovative parts are you talking about? It's not the targeting system. Been there done that. It certainly isn't the combat. I've never played an MMO where you didn't have to CC, interrupt, purge, blah, blah, blah. The last MMO I played I began to feel like a utility bot in raids and was damn sick of it. In this game the only difference is you have to use your utility all the freaking time. This isn't new or fresh it's just more of the same at a higher rate.
Questing isn't new or innovative, nor is phasing or grinding or zerg pvp.
If you mean the lack of a decent UI, no AH, no nameplates, piddly resources and a limited action bar then you might as well call a phone with no voicemail, browsing, or streaming innovative.
Choosing not to add things to the game isn't the same as developing new and innovative features. This game isn't innovative or fresh by any means. What it is, is unfinished.
