I pretty much agree with Boogie. The game is an incomplete, unfinished product. give it 2 more years and it MIGHT be good. Although, the voice acting does suck and the imperial city is missing, so PvP is still kind of meh.

Tend to agree even tough i still think there is hope.
Not much time left before a mass exocus might occur tough....
But i payed another month and if not fixed most of the problems and still no EU servers i pull the plug.

    I love Boogie.

As much as I want to disagree, I really can't. Good video from a great guy!

I hope also, i really do for the better that there will be changes to this game by zanimax but how long will it take? No one knows.

And other MMO'S are at the horizon like: wildstar / Arche Age / new Exp from WOW that will change drastically from what they ever done before for the better. Will appeal to the wider MMO crowd that is playing ESO and the ES fans will be left behind. That will happen 100% if zanimax don't add Basic's to the game and asap new exiting things that are fun to do.

Well to be fair the more you play it the more you realize what a piece of *** it is.

I personally don't see the appeal of ArchAge (at all....looks way to grindey imo), but I think with Wildstar and a new WoW expansion (yes, even WoW is still somewhat relevant), ESO is in a dangerous spot right now. IMO, ESO is a shallow ES game combined with a shallow MMO game to make a shallow experience and a game that is as well received (just from the betas) as Wildstar, or as massive as WoW (they have had 10 years to do so) puts ESO in some trouble. I don't think ESO will sink anytime soon, but the mediocre reaction it has received certainly doesn't bode well for it....especially with 2 new big MMOs and an expansion to the biggest MMO coming so soon. SWToR tanked and it had a ton more hype and a lot better reviews than ESO does.

I hope I'm wrong and I hope the devs fix ESO, but right now I think they have a lot of work cut out for them and very little time to remain relevant in the MMO market.

Well...he can talk like a normal human being (just kidding).

Good review providing some very valid points concerning ESO and MMO's in general.

I like the game but he is right about world of warcraft being the baseline. Eso is good in terms of combat but if zenimax wants to attract people they need to add the basics soon. Wow is popular because it has everything that you would want. Wow can be improved definetly but they wont do any huge overhauls until someone beats them

On another note while I don't think wildstar will have the strongest of starts atleast they cover the baseline and if I ever decide to get it im not doing so anytime soon as in im gonna wait till it has a trail and till opinions form. The main reason I bought eso was because it was a elder scrolls title I never personally had plans to sub again until I had a better idea about the game.

With all respect I feel with this guy, I disagree. I think ESO has foundations of game mechanics which are far from average. He was talking about innovative approach to MMOs - well, he didn't notice innovative things here at all, because he was trying to look for a standard things, which people take for granted in MMOs.

I'm also extremely tired of traditional MMO experience. However I feel like I'm playing this game not because it's 'TES MMO' or because it's cool new thing. It makes me experience something I never experienced before. Some elements are definitely innovative. All the bugs etc. - those are details.

I'm sure he would notice that and start actually liking the game if he spent at least 24 hours playing.

I think we just have to wait and see (and hope developers will not break the essential and innovative parts because of complaints of 'traditionalists')!

does anyone know that this is exactly what they said about WoW when if first came out?
There is no safty to be found in a sword. a sword brings death. it does not give life. it is a responsibility... a burden... this is no gift. it is a curse. i hope one day... you will forgive me.

Everyone builds their expectations and traditions depending on what they're used to, game & UI wise. I personally enjoy the TESO approach, but it needs work. It has the base to become something really wonderful.

I can't delve too deep as I haven't run into any gamebreaking dead-end atm, minus the bot/gold spammer invasion and some exploits (which I have reported, including almost every single bot/spammer I've encountered). But then again, my character is still young in the 'teens.
The economy seems quite different. I don't know when and if I'll get used to it, but I'll say more once I experience it further.

Boogie though, makes a very good point on one big aspect: Most MMOs today are beta releases, incomplete. And paying something to act as a beta tester is a personal turn-off that has forced my departure from various MMOs in the past. As far as I can remember, only Rift and Guild Wars 2 were among the most polished (or least buggy) ones. I only hope those big bugs will get straightened out as I approach their "danger zone"!

And hopefully we'll get the EU server as the long distance is having some interesting impact on this side of the world.

a bit of hot and cold, eso has millions of fans from the series so people will be playing for many years to come , the game is new so the problems will be resolved in time ,
all mmos have to be with wads of solo content and that reason we all want that super duper rare item so its greed ,
the subs is the cheapest way for all of us who can afford it, if the game does no subs then game will make more cash, look at world of tanks 50 bucks for a tank then look on how many premium tanks they have

What essential and innovative parts are you talking about? It's not the targeting system. Been there done that. It certainly isn't the combat. I've never played an MMO where you didn't have to CC, interrupt, purge, blah, blah, blah. The last MMO I played I began to feel like a utility bot in raids and was damn sick of it. In this game the only difference is you have to use your utility all the freaking time. This isn't new or fresh it's just more of the same at a higher rate.

Questing isn't new or innovative, nor is phasing or grinding or zerg pvp.

If you mean the lack of a decent UI, no AH, no nameplates, piddly resources and a limited action bar then you might as well call a phone with no voicemail, browsing, or streaming innovative.

Choosing not to add things to the game isn't the same as developing new and innovative features. This game isn't innovative or fresh by any means. What it is, is unfinished.

Thank you for saying this. The combat in this game is a disaster, forcing every class to use magic and falling into the same traps as other MMOs. It's nothing like previous elder scrolls combat systems other than the magic bar and stamina bar. Not to mention, the lack of spear/halberd type weapons. That was something I would have liked to see.
