Honestly if someone had been completely honest and said 9 or 10 hours ago "hey, we're having trouble working out what is wrong, so the servers might not be up tonight", I'd have gone out, gone to bed, gone on holiday or something.

The 2 hours at a time thing and keep extending it without letting us know that they hadn't yet even identified the issue, is not the best approach and that communication could have been handled better.

Just to touch on this, the intention was not to have maintaince for this long. The team has been working around the clock to figure out the issue and giving updates every two hours. Which we then relay to all players to keep everyone in the loop. So it was not in an attempt to not be honest, as was implied. We understand this is frustrating, but we wanted to clear that up, as we were providing the best information that we had at the time at every update.

I think the updates were valid. I think many are upset because they dedicated today for the new release. Some took time off work, some just planned to be on the game all day. It's unfortunate that it took this long but if the game is working and there are very few issues, then it will be all worth it

But on side note, @ZOS_Kevin, Many of us lost out on the daily reward for today so the last day of the month is now locked and unable to collect

if i'm reading this correctly servers are down for maintenance until tomorrow night. started this morning on the 6th and will end on the 7th. so no teso for almost 2 days?

You are not reading it correctly. Don't cross EDT with UTC. UTC will go past midnight into 1am - Thus, June 7th.
EDT goes to 9 PM and stays in June 6th.

I do understand that, but a communication at the 2 hours of extended maintenance point of "we haven't yet identified the issue" would have, while initially seeming like a bad move, saved frustration for many of us further down the line. Hearing that the issue has been identified several hours into extended maintenance, when it looked like it was under control several hours ago and would just be 2 hours to fix, is not the best communication.

It would have been better to say clearly early on "we are trying to identify the issue".

I appreciate the massive effort that has gone into sorting this out, thank you for that! It must have been a really long day for you all. I am just trying to point out how communication could have been better. In this instance, it would have been better to say "we aren't sure what the problem is yet and it might be a while, but we will update you in 2 hour increments" rather than suggesting that the problem was in hand and that it would be fixed in 2 hours.

Genuinely appreciative of everything you do, but also trying to point out where communication tonight could have been better and more honest.

Love to you all, go and get some kip :)

I will be fairly upset if I miss out on the $100,000 daily reward because I couldn't log in today due to this maintenance.

You and a lot of other players.

The $100,000 daily reward is the 14th for this month. Even if you don't get today's reward and didn't get any of the rewards for the previous days this month, you would still have 23 days left this month for collecting rewards, and you'd only need to log in on 14 of those 23 days. So how would this extended maintenance stop you from being able to get the $100,000 reward?

The problem is the way the updates were being communicated. The actual maintenance thread was telling us that maintenance had been extended by two more hours. Those maintenance end times have always meant that that was the time the servers were expected to be back up and running. From that perspective ZOS missed the mark multiple times. If the updates had stated that the 2 hours was a status update interval as you state in your post and that there was no current up time estimate it would have been much more clear to players where things stood.

It wasn't until 6:55 PM that the problem had been identified and was conveyed to the player base. That is the update that should have said when the estimated completion of maintenance was to occur since the time needed to implement the solution should be able to be determined fairly accurately at that point.

You guys should take the Montgomery Scott approach to maintenance, and instead of telling the "captain" that the game will be back up in two hours, when there's the potential it wont be, instead say that the game will be down for the entire day.

Then people will go about their business instead of complaining on the forums. Give yourselves a large maintenance window, more than you think you'll really need. That way if you get done early and there's no problems, you'll look like miracle workers for bringing the server back up online "early".

Did they have a launch event? Maybe I was all hyped up for Blackwood and the new companion system. I remember watching their twitch or YouTube live stream etc and then the servers went live and we were able to adventure in Blackwood straight away.
H I launch seemed to be like.. we're doing weekly maintenance and that's it.

I get past the login screen but it hangs up on the screen before character selection.

When I logged in after patch (eu) I had a loooong loading screen before getting to charcter select first time and of course had to debug the problem with Inventory Insight addon (disable it until there is an update.) Other than that I had no problems but I only did daily and weekly endeavors and logged off.

You'd think ZOS would have gotten better at this over the years... I know bugs and errors can popup at the last minute, I've done scripting for mods and if there's just one comma or bracket out of place the whole thing is borked, but they have how many people in QA?

Well, while most offices are back to normal, they’re still working from home. Yes, I know that’s not a good excuse, but they have stated more than once that it creates problems for them. So, delays like this shouldn’t be unexpected.

And there is no clear answer to it anyway - if you don't know, you don't know - it could be a quick fix, if the issue is discovered shortly or it can take quite some time, if the issue is hiding. And how should anyone be able to tell, how long it takes to fix it, when the issue is not yet known. We understand that, you don't have to blame yourself for not having the best information available - there is basically no best one in this case other than "we don't know yet, how long it will take".
