What, to you, is the superior mount type?

Of all mount types, which do you like the best overall? It could be because you like the look of them, or because they suit your characters better, etcetera.

Also, are there any you just cannot stand to look at? What are your grievances with your disliked mount type?

I probably don't need to tell you what my favorite is.

i marked constructs but i would prefer seeing less "animal" themed mounts

this is elder scrolls, where is the "mount" which is really just a form of levitation magic (an example would basically be an invisible mount)

ive always generally disliked "mounts", we have magic, why cant we have a boat that floats above the ground (it doesnt have to like fully fly, something akin to a hovercraft)

I like cats and wolves about equally, but I think I have more cats.

I also like the indrik. Guar are very cute but I only use them sometimes, like when I am in Vvardenfell.

Horses are fine I guess but the clippity-clop is a bit annoying.

Don't like camels or arthropods at all.

I like the look of the quasigriff but the heavyweight motion is not appealing. Too jerky especially when running.

I have NO BEARS so have not experienced them, but they seem too bulky for me.

I have no constructs (apart from dwarven guar) but the dwarven spider looks silly.

    Guar, guar guar!

And kagoutis are nice too. Like the meaner big brother of guars.

Quite unique to Elder Scrolls, good animation and model, cute as buttons, the sprint gesture is just great, and I love the slapping sound of their feet on the ground as they run.

I wish I could like equines in ESO but they just look too horrible for that.

Honourable mention to Arthropods, because I think they did a good job with them too. Sadly there aren't that many of them. Less so when you remove the dwemer/clockwork ones.

    Felines (Large cats)
I generally like them all. That being the case...
    • Felines feel faster to me. I know, realistically, they're not any faster or slower than any other mount trained to the same level, they just feel faster.
    • In the same vein, bipedals generally feel slower. I have no idea why.
    • Heavyweights look cool, but I hate how they're animated.
    • Most of the horses' faces look kind of creepy. I'd even go so far to say that the smaller-built updated horses look even worse.
    • I don't own any constructs. I've never felt the need to have one, and I don't know who, if any, among my characters would actually use one.
    • The toy mounts would be hilarious if they actually worked like proper mounts. As it is, I think they're just a waste of money.
    • I missed the Indrik events thanks to not having a computer at the time, but they sound adorable. This fact alone makes me sad that I missed the opportunity to get any of them.

I would love for the preview in the Crown Store to also include the animation the mount does when you hit jump when it's not moving. Some of the mounts look really cool, but hearing them is grating. The Quasigriffs fit this bill for me (even if they don't have any Crown Store variants yet), as do some of the canine mounts. The Quasigriff screams are like nails on a blackboard.

As far as the riding experience and animations go, and what I enjoy riding the most, it is a tie between Felines and Canines.

I really really want to love Equines most, as I absolutely love horses more than these other two, but the horse model and riding animations are just too awkward and clunky for me. :( Such a shame!

Anything with 6+ legs feels like a much smoother ride. Not sure if it's true or not, but definitely feels that way. Dwemer spiders get the edge over nix oxes because bugs are bleh.

    In my opinion:

Senche look great and are the smoothest rides, in my opinion.

Guar and Kagouti look great too, but they do not ride that well.

Bears and camels have the most lopsided riding animations, horses have weird front legs.

Constructs and arthropods look nice but I have not tried them yet.

    Equines (Horses)
I went with horses because, from a roleplay perspective, they make the most sense. Plus, to my mind, you can't beat the classics. I've always felt that the more exotic mounts are more style over substance.

With the horse (And similar 'classic' real world mounts) you get...
    • A stable platform for mounted combat. (Bipedal mounts would struggle with this, especially in impact warfare)
    • Easier logistics in terms of mount care (Food and such)
    • Easier to use in a variety of environments.
    • Easier to train as they have more readily been bred for purpose, and there are more people with the necessary knowledge and experience.
    • Look good in a variety of armours, caparisons, and other accessories.
    • Discreet for those who prefer to work unseen and unnoticed.
    • Less likely to randomly turn on the other mounts in the group once instinct takes over (A problem for the more carnivorous mounts).
    • To my mind, you can't beat the classical "Knight in shining armour with a horse" look.

ETA: Overall, I just feel the more 'grounded' mounts mesh better with the world and make you feel like you are a part of it instead of standing out like a sore thumb all of the time, or have been jammed into a spot that doesn't match the wider world for the sake of looking 'cool'.

    Wolves in third.
    Everything else way behind those.
Spidery things are ok, some creepy, but the ride animation is ok.
The horses have always looked a bit janky in the game and the clopping annoys me after a while.
The heavyweights and bears have horrible riding animation that I can't stand to look at.

Most of my OCs ride horses, but my personal favorites are elk/deer mounts. I love antler animals. I have a bosmer nightblade who rides an elk because she's a hunter and worships Hircine so it feels fitting, and I also have my altmer warden on an elk because they look cute together. I also like horses and I think camels and bears are pretty cool as mounts.

You need a poll choice for none is superior to any other. As I develope each of my characters, I select a mount which best goes with the character's theme and backstory. Frequently I've changed up the mount after deciding my original choice for the character didn't fit after all. As such my characters have mounts across the spectrum.

Horses are the best looking mounts. I just wish they had smoother riding animation. They always seem to stutter step and randomly slow down (especially after jumping). Wolves and senche have smoother, more consistent riding experience. But I still end up using horses almost exclusively because of appearance and the classic, timeless appeal of horses as mounts.
