When Defile was too strong, it always created issues and it's easy to see why. It does not increase build diversity because it's such a potent mechanic that everyone feels obligated to use it. It also does not effect all builds equally. Classes with cleanse and sorcs because of their shields are more easily able to deal with it, which will already widen the gap between the classes that are strong in PvP and those that are not.
Other than that, I have not played a huge amount since the new patch dropped, but damage seems quite high as it is.

You are saying its potent ?
Is it still do you feel ?
Have you ran a dot build with it and try to kill people ?
Classes with cleanse we all have a way to stop defile in the support tree its called purge.
Cost is high but you can still slot it to deal with negative effects.
In general I haven't seen the damage this high since 1.6 I agree !

No, i am saying whenever it was potent it caused problems and those problems would now be exacerbated bc/ there's so much damage.
I dont run a DoT build because literally half the classes in thr game have cleanse (including the two best) and burst is so strong now.
I dont consider the ridiculously high magicka cost group skill purge as some justification that players can inflict some powerful status effect wily nily. If it was as easy as you claim, then people would not have had such a problem with defile, the DoT meta, many proc sets, etc.

Well giving the fact that the good thoerycrafters figuring out the only way to counter the damage running HP recovery builds that are maxing around 6 to 9k when they are unkillable WW's seems like its a problem. And good luck if they are in a pack...
Seems theorycrafting went extinct when I was gone, everybody just copy and pastes YouTube builds.
And the only problem with defile was that people couldn't not understand why they are slowly dying.
( Intelligence of player base )
The ones that knew called it cheese because they have 2 playstyles and builds to match it, one with MAG and one with STAM !
And most of them are dps test dummy machines that complain about having not having enough "skill" in the game to run a build based on stats.
My argument - This is there so called "skill " update and look at were we are now. Where everything is almost homogenized and you have 0 diverse build in PvP to even counter the meta. But I guess it's not about countering when ZOS has to make that Cheddar Cheese.
The smart players always figured out way to counter updated meta builds with old and unique playstyles and builds/abilities.
Now we cant even do that... it really doesn't even matter tbh. The community changed and a ton of the old players left because they saw this coming from the RP PVE players constantly complaining about PvP.
Defile was needed once and after fasalas was nerfed. Everyone held block used viper, complained about procs critting those people took eso way too serious. Like I said this is a game and should be fun... eso isn't a social meet and greet to get dates make friends that you wont ever meet irl.
Its a game nothing more nothing less... Lets make it interesting like all games.
Using your brain wins ! 😂

The entire game revolves around RNG including the meta that you are currently in.
Skill as far as mechanics for a DPS test ?
Skill as in setting up for only one playstyle - Burst
Skill as in Esports ?
Skill as in ESO has 0 skill - but a combat system based on RNG and hoping your press a pattern and series of buttons or keys to not die or to kill.
Are you ok ?
Its competitive but shouldn't be looked at as skilled. The only skilled thing in this game is learning mechanics in trials and pulling 100k DPS tests. I say that because I been a pvp player forever and pvp since day1 has been around RNG.
Abusing 2/3's of the sets ? That's the GAME use the sets ! Test sets - Try out - Understand different playstyles ! If you cannot figure out playstyles - LEARN IT ! And use it to counter stuff ? I'm confused of what game you have been playing ?
What is reactive play ? When you get low HP ? When you try to use the same combo on a test dummy ? Blocking ? ok - how you going to block an AOE build - You get bombed in the dill lately you how is your react time ? 😂
When to roll ? When to cast shields ? Weapon swap heal - kite drop burst
You do realize you just gave me the PVE trail boss rotation. This isn't PVE and this isn't that serious, the people that think ESO is an Esport is why I played this is NOT an Esport and should be looked at again as a game. And with all games it should be competitive have different things to give an advantage to yourself, rewards for thinking outside the box. Not everything should be logical and be about numbers mechanics and achievements.
That's what I'm saying you have to build for defile > lets say everyone builds for defile > Everyone dies 100% of the time
Sir that's the game you shouldn't be GOD in the game based on running the meta 24/7 and having the same PVE rotation play style in a so called " reactive environment. "
So called hang out - RL Friends before ESO doesn't count as guildys. If thats the case my 3 guildys live in my house ! 😂

If PVP takes 0 zero skill, according to you, then I don't know what all of these PVErs are complaining about. They should all be dominating in PVP since it requires 0.00% skill.
