Sorcerer damage type spells... take this over that?

So far for my sorcerer I just use daedric curse 1st then crystal shard and they are pretty much dead, if not it will be a big fight.

so out of the dark magic, and storm calling, trees, what spells do you guys usualy take for damage and why?

also are destruction staff spells/skills worth the points? and again justify why you chose them.

I'm trying to get an idea on what type of build im going to do.

thanks

One of my sorcerers is a dual-dagger lightning-storm. She currently uses Mage's Fury, Lightning Form and when available the stormcalling Ultimate (Emperor Palpatine style ;D )... later she'll get Bound Armor for a bit more protection (unless I don't like the LOOK of it) and the Lightning PBAOE "pool".

She HAS the crystal shard but I don't care for the long cast time and I don't yet have a mod (if one exists) to let me know when it will be an instant-cast (if I chose that morph)... I don't think she has it, yet, but as a melee lightning-storm kind of character (dual daggers, too!), the short-range root would be handy for keeping foes near me while I sparked and slashed 'em.

I would like more insight on the type of builds you guys have. Come on people this topic should be pretty popular given its on build choices for a popular class

Single target spells, you have Crystal, Curse, Fury (execute only). Then you have weapon skills. The rest of the class is buffs, debuffs, pets (meh), and aoe.

So, there isn't really that much variety in single target killing, within the class. The variety comes from the weapons.

    my build is in sig.

I'm pretty simple desires.. move fast... pull lots of aggro... do as much damage as I can in 8-10s, distract or pull the enemy to a more desired location, and hope I can get out of said mess...

In PvP I like to be a forward scout which requires a lot of mobility, and burst of defense ability that doesn't counter the need for high magic regen to be able to move etc... ie full light armor, overmaxed regen and spell resists and maxed spell cost redux. With lighting form, I'm over 2.5k spell and 2k physical, but that's only 8s...

I like to be the first one through the doors, laying a cast free zone (ultimate), for my group to move through, taunting "if I can do it in a dress you can too", hoping I wasn't alone through the doors.

I built for burst DPS/Speed not DoT/Sustained Tank nor extensive heals. Longer the fight the worse my chance to win or need to run/regroup (if I have magica left). I focused on spell penetration and crit to push damage, specializing in AoE, but my single target isn't bad either.

I spot heal, partially because I care about people not dying, but my agenda is to keep a utility ability for when my other abilities are not priority, and other group-mates abilities are priority over mine.

both my bars are almost identical, except one has staff AoE and the other has a heal in it's place. Like I said, I have a niche I focused on filing and let others do the other stuff, as I don't have any CC slotted at all. I move fast and I kill fast... I can't stop someone from running nor save anyone's life and I can't fight a long 1v1 without retreat...

In a 1v1, when I decide to engage, I know one of us is dying in under a minute, or I'm going to do my best to lose you in the next 3-5 seconds of the fight. I cannot fully commit easily to a fight with this build as a downside.

My PvP and PvE build does not differ ATM, I'm just a less cautious in PvE. I hope this was helpful info.

As noted your single target spells don't vary much, its just if you want to CC or use pet earlier on.
The only destr staff skill I use is the morphed Impulse, its the focal point of my AoE skillbar and after about VR2 or 3 became by far my main damage skill. You have to commit to all but one of the passives in this line to make it shine, so it wont be anything used early on.
    Do you even backstory, bro?

I very much like Destructive Touch from the Destruction Staff line, especially with a fire staff. It uses your staff like a baseball bat to send the enemy flying. Very satisfying and has kept me alive more times than I can count.

I'm going to assume you don't play it much? If so, go ahead and slot C-Frags anyways. You don't need a mod and you will know if you proc it because your hands begin to glow like purple illuminated orbs. When I first started playing a sorc in beta I was worried I would miss the procs. The more I used it the more familiar I became with it. I never miss a proc, unless I am cc'd or oom.

For a melee sorc, cf is a very nice tool, particularly if you have it on your range bar for quick switch cc. You have a lot of options considering the passives and the effects of your cc choices in dark magic. You can set up some serious burst.
I got killed in pvp, nerf everything...

To the OP, I'm running 5 medium/2 light and bow on both of my bars for my Breton Sorc

Bar 1 (Single Target DPS): Crystal Fragments, Venom Arrow, Mage's Wrath, Bombard, Draining Shot ULTIMATE: Energy Overload

Bar 2 (AOE DPS): Liquid Lightning, Velocious Curse, Scorched Earth, Restraining Prison, Dark Exchange ULTIMATE: Summon Charged Atronach

I've learned for my sorc, CC is EVERYTHING. In most solo situations I can usually juggle an enemy with Crystal Frags and Draining shot to knock them back. I can also use bombard to slow them down. Venom Arrow's spell interrupt and stun is also awesome. I use energy overload mainly to regen magicka.

The AOE bar is even easier. I pop scorched earth with my bow, then I use Restraining Prison to lock them in it, pop Velocious Curse and Liquid lightning. If the group is really big or really strong, Charged Atronach gets dropped on em too, GG. Both bars have CC and both bars have magicka rechargers. Sapping out my stamina with dark exchange is fine.
