[Suggestion] Some more offensive and defensive siege equipment! *Please pop in!

Howdy! Since release I've been spending lots of time in PvP and have noticed a lack of a few very key things to any siege, especially of a heavily fortified position... Siege towers and ladders! I think it would be a great addition to add these to help counter the flaming oil that gets dumped constantly on choke-points. I also feel that this would bring a new element to the game since there's not a whole lot to do as infantry if you're not sieging, other than watching your flanks.

Now, on the defensive end there are also some things missing, or that need to be changed somewhat. First off: Mercenaries; it's great that you can hire them, they do a good job whilst they are around, but they only do there job for a few minutes then vanish! I feel that there should be a longer term hire or at least the option to pay more for longer periods of time, because just a few minutes is no help at all!

And finally, to the real defensive changes: Field defenses; what are field defenses you may ask? Field defenses would be defenses you can deploy out in the field, more specifically in and around your keep to help defend it. Some of which could be oil pits, hay-balls, spike traps, and all sorts of nasty stuff that will cut you, burn you, eat you, or just downright put a dent in your day!

Let me know what you think! If you have any further suggestions or if I overlooked something say so in the comments!

Extra note: I'm fully aware if and when these are added it will be quite a long ways off, and I am aware that the focus is on launch and bug fixing at the moment.

Extra-Extra note: A forum for suggestions and sub-forums for what they regard would be nice as well.

GREATLY disagree with the Mercenary thing. WE should man siege equipment, not the guy we payed 100 gold to unless that guy is another player. And WE should defend against enemies, not NPCs.

EDIT: Siege tower thing I doubt, but ladders could be good.

EDIT2: Wait, can hire them? you can hire mercenaries in game?

There are mercenary NPC you can get from a vender in your home zone in Cyrodiil. You place them in a keep to add to the defenders. (There is a limit, much like siege.)

You can hire mercenaries already, it's at the gateways for your alliance. As far as siege towers the idea is to add them at a higher cost since they would be extremely effective, and have ladders at a lower cost but make them easy to counter. So in theory ladders would be say, 1,000 alliance points and towers would be say, 2,000-3,000 points.

Well the ladders/tower are a bad idea in a PvP game because then no one would seige anything... they simply go to an empty wall of a undefended fort and ladder up and get in without killing anything.

Everything else is possible but depended on the execution of it.

As I said before they should be easy to counter to ensure that people don't just put 5 ladders up and have 100 guys get up on them, but I could see why it would be a bad idea if executed improperly.

That would actually be really cool, maybe add that to the existing mercenary feature as an offensive buyable?

    Some good ideas so far
Barricades would help in defence, but the risk of them being stacked/placed ina way to stop people entirely could hinder it
Ladders were a great idea and offer more to the tactical side of things allowing people to distract one side to access the other.
Is there a way currently to call for help? Maybe x amount of players in a keep grants the ability to call for reinforcements. Zone announcement for that faction?
With my limited experience out there I have noticed it generally consists of one team setting up weapons, the other team just waiting safely inside to zerg out when they breach inside
Is there or could there be if not a defence bonus given to those who fight on the walls, that way we get people out there fighting rather than waiting inside?

Well, whenever you kill someone you get alliance points, and as long as you're not in a group it's somewhere around 300 of them for each kill, so kills are definitely worth it :)

Another idea to throw into the mix, being able to toggle on and off shared XP in groups so you can group with friends and not lose xp/alliance point gains in PvP and other zones.
