I'm on an iMac 3.4 quad core i5 and 4GB video ram - still get 30 fps at best

✭✭✭✭✭I tried running this on a Samsung laptop a few years back. Very similar specs to what you posted. It was one of those very thin ultrabook type laptops meant to compete with the macbook airs. It was a work PC, and I just wanted to see if it would run. The answer was "Yes, but barely."
I could do dailys from a hotel room or maybe some inventory management, but actually playing the game looked like a bad slide show.

✭✭I have a pretty bulky, well ventilated Dell Inspiron, same specs, ish. It gets toasty.
What you can try, if available for poopy Apple systems, is running Intel's XTU to undervolt your cpu by as much as you possibly can. That'll help a lot.
Also, forgive for being blunt, but if you have a MacBook air, gaming shouldn't be on your activities list. There's one thing the Air doesn't have... That's, ironically enough, air. As in airflow. That notebook is a heat trap, perfectly engineered to be a thermal nightmare.
Do yourself a big favor and spend 300 USD on any i5 8gb basic Windows Notebook and you'll run ESO just as well, if not better. Get an used one, couple years old. Or even an i3 with a lowly nvidia mx110/930/940mx or something like that...
I'm assuming you bought the Air. If you did, I'm assuming you probably can spare 300 or so. Not that much of a stretch, since you're already over spending on a poorly thermally engineered, overly well designed apple paper weight.
Oh yeah... I'm not a fan of apple :P everything I said about the technical aspect is true though. XTU is your friend. Undervolting performs wonders!3 -

✭✭It should run, but I think you’ll need to be on minimum settings to have any kind of experience.
Keep an eye on temperature though as the Air wasn’t designed for extended high graphics content use.
As an alternative, you could look at buying an external graphics device (e.g. a Blackmagic eGPU). These devices ramp up your GPU as if your MacBook was a desktop machine. Finding one that’s works with Air is it a bit tougher, but they are out there.0 -

✭✭✭✭If you want to play games, honestly just get a PC with a dedicated graphics card. Don't even think about Apple.
You will never run games with good graphics and performance, especially in areas that put a ton of stress on your hardware. You will also feel forced to run on much smaller resolutions, low shadows and likely only basic anti-alias - edge smoothing.
(particularly stressful areas include: large open areas, overpopulated areas, high amount of particle effects & animations, visual entities like grass or debris, water or gloss reflections etc.)Edited by Nyladreas on 5 December 2019 08:031 -

It's still a great device for work and all kinds of home office, watching movies, good for travel etc. It's very light, the battery holds for a very long time and it's very stable. Every device has got its uses. And like Zonas said, their marketing is just too good. It makes you wanna buy it lol.1 -

Apple’s are still the pro choice for many creative industries. They are lovely machines. My MacBook Pro does run ESO, but it’s not the super gratifying experience it was a couple of years ago. FPS is never above 30. But it’s still playable. I question whether ZOS (or indeed Apple) are addressing any resources to improving gaming performance on the Mac, but given Apple’s entrance into the game streaming arena maybe better times are in store...
If I had the luxury of a second machine specifically for games, it probably wouldn’t be a Mac and it definitely wouldn’t be a laptop.1 -
chrightt✭✭✭✭I use an iPhone but I would not buy a Mac laptop especially if you plan on doing some more intensive stuff like gaming. They’re just the “stylish trend” that pretty much underperforms in almost every aspect versus a laptop you can get for the same price. I recall playing league of legends a few years ago on my Mac and I could cook a damn egg on my Mac. League is a pretty low spec game especially compared to games like ESO. I could run it on a Lenovo T400 without a graphics card no problem. A mac book? Feels like I turned on the heater. You could literally feel it melting.
