Crafting: Main or Alt?

Darkholynova
ESO's crafting system seams to promote the idea of a crafting alt. Spending 9 points on a craft is a waste compared to the passives and utilities you'd be missing out on. Bank space is shared, and as far as I'm aware there isn't any crafted gear that's bound so you can't transfer it via your bank.

The only crafts that offer passives that benefit combat gameplay seam to be alchemy/provisioning. So are you guys crafting on your main or alts?

Crafting on my main and only on my main.
Reason: there are enough skill points in the game and I do not find questing here attractive enough to level an alt even to get enough points to max one craft.

I do everything on my main yet because the game is unstable and many peoples are experiencing bank wipes when they are accessing the bank from an alt character

I craft on my main. I see no reason not to since there's plenty of skill points to go around on... And there's quite some limits on how much you can put into skills unless you want two dozen that don't fit in the skill bar. :P

Well it's not so much that the skills won't fit on your bar, but that you enable more options for different situations. Do you use the same skills for pvp, farming, and tanking?

For example: You could max out your heavy armor traits for your tanking AND get the medium or light armor for your dps. As a tank or healer, you'll want to have good way to deal damage for farming/questing and thus need more talents.

Or multiple weapon types. Maybe you'd like to be good at bows, dual wielding/two handers and sword/shield or resto staff. Mage and Fighter's guild.... future guilds. Vamp/WW are pretty big skill dumps.

Currently my main is a nightblade werewolf with bow and dual wielding. I haven't maxed out the points in any of them and I'm concerned about end game and how it'll be if I don't have enough points to craft my gear too.

you will have enough points. if you gather skyshards. from my calcs you can max all crafting skills all class skills, all race skills, an armor line, two weapon lines, one alliance line, world line, and either vamp or were wolf, oh and all guilds that are there presently. there is enough points available for that

I am doing 2 crafts on my main, have a friend doing another 2 crafts on his main, and I have an alt that I have bribed my wife to level up while I am at work doing the last 2 crafts. I really wanted to have all 6 crafts covered, hehe

I am actually crafting on all my characters and just sending materials around though the shared bank.
What is written above are my honest opinions. If you agree then; "Great!" If you disagree; "Great!" I really couldn't care less either way.

My first "main" will craft everything. Then I'll level alts for tank, heal, and dps without worrying about gear.

I leveled provisioning to 50 on my main, and while I'm leveling I'm also blacksmithing on my alt. Plus each day/week crafting supplies and motifs are dropping nice and low.

Though I don't consider it my main. It's my highest level character and I've quested and explored for the SP. Ideally, once she has gotten to a point where she can make gear for my lower level alt (or new main), she will no longer be the main.

    Make sense?

Time is my deciding factor, leveling a main and an alt-crafter would mean I'd miss out on valuable fun with either ... and with such an abundance of skill points available, I don't see any reason to split the roles between two toons. My main does it all, and I don't have to redo quests :)

I craft on my alt but it feels like a main. literally every item my main found passed though the bank and was deconstructed by my alt for skill XP.

in the end it may be that i have 2 mains? the combatant and the crafter.
the crafter will master all crafts while still being capable enough to reach the special (set) crafing stations.
the combatant will focus on combat only take as many passive as possible to make her as versatile and powerful as posible

I have one character that is totally devoted to crafting. I feel like there will be enough skill points to do this and still have them fun to play, but I wanted to be able to take all my regular skills on my main playing characters. It is working out very well for me so far.

Yeah, me too. Enchanting on my main, everything else on alts.
Just so that everyone knows, my Altmer still can't have black hair. About a dozen of Altmer NPCs in the game have black hair. Just saying.

    Meet my characters:
    Command: Do the thing.

Zadarri, Khajiit Fist of Thalmor: The thing was done, as commanded.
Durza gra-Maghul, Orc blacksmith: The thing was done perfectly, in the most efficient way.
Tegwen, Bosmer troublemaker: You can't prove I didn't do the thing.
Sings-Many-Songs, Argonian fisher: Sure, I'll do the thing... Eventually. Maybe.
Aerindel, Altmer stormcaller: After extensive research, I've come to the conclusion that doing the thing would be a waste of resources.
Liliel, Dunmer pyromancer: Aerindel said I shouldn't do the thing. Something about "resources".
Gyda Snowcaller, Nord cryomancer: I will find a way to do it that won't waste resources and make Aerindel proud of me.
Beatrice Leoriane, Breton vampire: I persuaded someone else into doing the thing. You are welcome, dear.
Sahima, Redguard performer: Doing the thing sounds awfully unpleasant and really not my problem.
Ellaria Valerius, Imperial priestess: I'll pray to the Eight for the thing to be done, if it is Their will.

I said "Main" because I do spend crafting points on my main, I don't just focus on combat or utility abilities. I would like to make my main a Master of Crafts, but due to inventory concerns I have had to bring forward a character that I was originally going to create later as an alt.

I was crafting on my main, but I have been playing that char with my brother in law, and he has been unable to play much recently...so my original alt has become my main and my original main is now a crafting alt. A bit inconvenient, but no more so than dealing with bank alts. Just one more guy to hop to.

    This.

I guess I just don't see the point of an alt. I don't even use all the skill points I have now when it comes to non-crafting stuff.

I started crafting on alts to save points for my main, but then it became a constant alt shuffle to use the mats gathered by my main to deconstruct for lvls. also the alts still need to lvl in order to put points in the crafting skill line. I did keep one craft on an alt full time and that is enchanting which takes forever to max out.

I say I'll craft on an alt but I won't really know for sure until I actually get into the game. Reading the comments here, it looks like maybe the main is the way to go. In the beta I crafted with a main but put things in the bank to send to the other mains in the other alliances. I'm actually still waiting for the console version to launch.

I have no plans to raid or PvP... I'm really bad at combat, so I wouldn't be much good at either of them. So, I'm really focused on crafting at the moment. Going to go through them all, and I gather just enough combat skills to help me survive as I level up. Most of my skillpoints are going towards crafting.

I don't care much for alts, so I don't have any plans on making one at the moment. But that may change. Perhaps, when I've capped all the crafting and I find a class where I don't die every 20 seconds, I might make a new combat-oriented character and make stuff for her with my main.

I tried going for a walk in Cyrodill. It's no joke, I ran into an Aldmeri vanguard of about 50 and when that happens there's really no chance you have in fighting. I stay in the comfort of my smith station...
