Faction locked for new campaign reset with no choice to switch

As title says. Logging into game from reapers March to find that I am locked to the same realm as last 30 day campaign with no option to change for today's new campaign start. I can see this being an issue for a lot of people who were looking to play a different faction in the new campaign resets. There was no option to even choose a new faction. Toons were siomply locked. Talking to a couple buddies and they were also locked onto last campaigns faction, no option to change

    That's annoying!

I'm faction loyal to EP, so it doesnt impact me, but everyone who wants to should have gotten the option to swap.

You had NO option to swap? Even if you queued for Cyro on the faction-character of your choice?

    Wow. Serious problem.

Did you log out in Cyrodiil and log in somewhere else simply because the campaign was full and you got kicked to wherever you were prior?

If not, that's a serious blunder. I've defended faction locking and still support it, but removing even the ability to choose which faction you'll play at the start of the campaign is all kinds of messed up. Or, in ZOS terms... par for the course, basically.

[EDIT] Even if you did log out in Cyrodiil and that is what locked you into the same faction as the previous campaign, that is clearly not how it should work. It should maybe kick everyone who is offline out of Cyrodiil and give them a choice. As for people actively playing when campaign ends, maybe clear their choice the first time they leave Cyrodiil or log out?

Yeah, hopefully it is just a bug created from trying to log into a full campaign with a queue, resulting in getting kicked back to PVE land with that faction selected as the primary faction for the campaign in the process.

To be on the safe side, people who are logging in and want to switch factions for the new campaign should log into a character that is NOT listed as being in Cyrodiil on the character select screen.

So to clear up the issue. If you login to a char (for example on EP) that is already in cyrodiil you get instantly locked to EP. If you log into an (for example) AD char cuz you wan to switch AD you get a message that you need to abandon campain on ur EP char first. But by loggin into the EP char in cyrodil you autolock to EP. Great work zejimax
    Why do I even try

That’s different then, something that definitely needs to be looked into ASAP. I only play AD, so it doesn’t affect me, but I can see how crappy it would be for people with chars in multiple alliances who wanted to make a switch for the new campaign. I’m all for faction locks, but only if it’s working as intended.

So best to leave Cyrodiil before logoff for now.

This will give the anti-lock minority apoplectic fits, and they would be right.

To clarify further, OP, what alliance was the character you initially logged in on? Was it the same alliance that you’d been locked on the previous campaign?

Logged into my main Cyrodiil toon so same faction/alliance from reapers march to find I was already locked to faction for new campaig and home was locked also. simply no choice to even switch either lock or home

Okay, well maybe the trick is to log into the character whose alliance you want to main for that campaign when the campaigns reset. When the reset happens, your characters always stay in your home campaign by default, unless you manually switch your home campaign to a new campaign (it’s how the campaign loyalty rewards work). If you initially log in on the wrong character, it makes sense that the default alliance selected would be the one you logged in with. The only way to fix this on ZOS’s end would be to add in more parameters such that the faction lock only occurs with the first character that physically enters Cyrodiil.

When campaigns reset no character no matter the faction should have a lock nor should their home campaign already be set. When campaigns reset everything should reset including locks and homes. Now that faction locks are back this is even more important. No one should have to worry about which toon they log in first on reset day, that is really poor design.

I agree that it’s poor design. That’s why I said at the end of my post that ZOS could fix it by adding additional parameters. Faction lock should occur only when a character physically travels into Cyrodiil for the first time in a campaign, with a warning prior to that initial port-in. Characters logged out of Cyrodiil when a campaign resets should be booted automatically to PVE zones upon logging in again to prevent any errors like this from occurring.

In the meantime, until ZOS fixes it, people should be careful and make their initial login on the character whose alliance they wish to main.

Edit: and home campaigns should NOT reset, unless the devs can figure out alternate ways to manage campaign loyalty rewards.

i might be wrong but I think you have to abandon the campaign before a new campaign starts.

Or, maybe abandon the campaign before entering the new campaign.

there is an option to abandon campaign but it cost 100,000 ap (or 100,000 gold). It also only applies to changing your home campaign, not your faction lock. The original issue of being locked after campaign reset remains. By the way I have not entered any new campaign yet since I am trying to address the issue of being locked before even having a choice of faction
  • hellcatlizzieb16_ESO
Yeah not good I have majority AD and only AD for proper PvP but made a Templar and warden in dc and do just for variety and planned to switch next month to level up a few skills like vigor etc. Hope they sort this out as from my understanding after campaign ended it would then re lock with whatever alliance I enter with that time until end of campaign then reset again so could jump back to my actual PvP faction.

There is an option to abandon your home campaign when it ends. If you don't do that, they game has always automatically rolled your home campaign choice over.

Perhaps with faction lock being brought back, ZOS could have the choice reser each time for everyone.

This. You have always stayed homed to your last home campaign as far I know. You could choose to abandon campaign previously (like before Elsweyr) and could pay to do it immediately, or do it when the campaign ends for free as I recall.

I am for faction lock but if this is happening then it's a major problem. Perhaps they can remedy this situation by allowing each account to leave main campaign "once" through each 30 day campaign.

This is the correct and only solution.

Players who do not care for faction lock must have an opportunity to change faction with campaign reset without any tricks, special techniques, obscure procedures, or hassle.

Here is part of the problem. At reset there was no free option to change home campaign. I was locked and home set automatically. Changing home had a cost of 100,00 ap/gold , no free option to change like the past

    Really?
So to switch I would've had to abandon last night before campaign end and pay 100K?
Looks like I won't be pvping for a month. And also looks like on PC/NA DC will be just as outnumbered as they were last campaign, if no one can switch.
