Except capitalism means a free market where anyone can start an independent business without being beholden to anyone else, provided they can supply or produce what their business is meant to sell or produce. Not that only people who join a specific group are allowed to start a business. In fact the guild trading system is almost the exact opposite of capitalism. It's closer to communism. Where a small group of people control the market and if you aren't in that small group of people, you have no right to free trade.

Firstly, what describe in the latter part of this post, is a monopoly. This is the ultimate form of capitalism.
Secondly, why don't you research how Bethesda is structured as a company?
It looks awfully like your definition of communism, or communist oligarchy.
But, we still don't want or need an auction house.
Dead horse gif pls....
In a nutshell, many people think that the current system makes the game economy better. They think having a global AH would make it worse. They are wrong. There are a lot of ignorant yet stubborn people who play. Nothing to be done about this. They post about how awful global AHs are, yet give no firm examples. There is a reason nearly every other successful MMO uses a global AH system.

I want one? So can't speak for me yet. I just don't use current system at all. Waste of time to find the stuff you need due to checking 5-10 traders.

I don't think that's going to fly. The devs invested into this "guild supremacy" system, and it's pretty doubtful they'll undo it now, 5 years down the road. I wouldn't expect them to go any other direction - if they *** off the mega-gold making trading guilds, the number of players/time played by same will tank, and I feel many guilds would leave wholesale. Won't be good.
I mean, I get what you're saying. There were global AHs in both WoW and RIFT when I was playing, and they worked SO much better than this system here. And no, no one regularly "monopolized" and overpriced stuff - because the "sell in chat" still worked just fine. The few times I remember someone trying that on with anything, it lasted about 4-5 days, and that seller went away, tail between legs. Of course, that also depended on which server you were on. I played on Shadowsong and Icecrown mostly (though I had many accounts, and played on many other servers though not as "mains") and those were "old" and "stable", so probably we had less of that sort of issue. That all ended when I quit WoW in 2013. I've never been back (and won't ever go back) so I have no idea how it is now.
Sadly, I think the global AH will never come to ESO.

Does it REALLY take that long on PC? Guess console is Master race in that regard.
Seriously though, auction houses in WoW for example could very easily be manipulated by a small group of people which in some ways acted like a "trading guild." At least with the ESO system you have many individual auction houses (trading guilds) that have to compete with each other for pricing. Even in the busy or prime locations you can find good prices. Saved over 10,000gold today on tempers just by checking each vendor in Alinor before purchasing.

You realize there isn't some kind of world cap on mat quantity, right? Farmers, hell, botters even, are not affecting your ability to get mats of any kind, let alone 'producing some false sense of rarity.'
