Why do you play MMOs?

Just asking because I see more and more people complaining about having to do group activities in an MMORPG.

May have been a bit harsh on the answers tho'.

I like being able to interact with friendly people, and to group up with them to complete challenges. There is so much content to complete, and there is always more getting added.

I've always really enjoyed Elder Scrolls lore, so an MMO in the ES unisverse was a no-brainer.

Out of boredom to be honest. I'm actually not an avid gamer.

That and I like the Elder Scrolls games. I got an original Xbox because of Morrowind.

I like the social aspect -- i like the whining aspect

Overall I enjoy the experience and the feeling of being part of something big. I've made friends from all over the world. for a girl from a small Welsh valley town, that's a big thing. ESO has made the real world smaller and more accessible because of the the grandness of its own scope. Are there idiots and less pleasant people, yes -- that type of people are outside my door too. Is some content really hard, yes -- there's stuff like that in life too. Overall though, there is a positive and welcoming feel to an MMO like ESO, especially with the depth and prior world creating that went before it.

I like playing with other people.

For some reason, IRL, people have a tendency to attack me just because I exist.

I do not have this problem online. On the Internet, I am an equal.

That's why I spend so much time on my computer.

What my folks don't understand is I'm genuinely happy when in the company of fellow gamers.

Anyway, read my signature. I do have outbursts. Again, this makes the Internet a better place for me to socialise.

My folks can't seem to get it through their heads that there is actually a real person behind every written word on most forums and games.

One of the two of us definitely has gone mad. It only remains to define whether this one is the whole world or just me.

The first option is also partially true, I do like the massively multiplayer aspect of MMO's, but the main reason I prefer MMO's or MMO-lites over other games is honestly because of the time commitment. I prefer games where you're in for the long haul, as I enjoy really investing time and effort into the game by building and progressing characters, gear, skill sets, my own individual skills, etc. Means I can keep going back to the game and still feel a sense of (pride and) accomplishment when I log off, as I'm improving my situation in the game in some way, instead of just screwing around doing whatever.

I don't play MMO's, I play ESO in single player mode ignoring all group content because it is the only currently maintained TES game.

I mean, I like raiding, but the main pull has always been the emergent interaction with a community, and the single player experience, where your efforts can be shown to a world of other players.

I don't play MMO's. I only play one, and its ESO, mainly because it's an Elder Scrolls game. If it wasn't a TES game, I honestly doubt i'd play it (Dont get me wrong, its a great game)

I like MMO's because in a sense they don't "end". Always something to do. I can beat Single Player games, not so much with MMO's.

    I've also played many MMO's.

Because after a thousand hours on a single character I have ran out of new things to do in Skyrim, and got tired of hunting for more quality mods. So I decided to try this to feed my Elder Scrolls Fix because Elder Scrolls 6 isn't out yet.

I only play Kingdom of Loathing and ESO, so technically I don't "play MMOs". I started to play both to explore the game worlds -- in fact, in KoL, I've largely avoided playing with others for the past 11 years. The group content in KoL is largely optional; the best gear and toys there come from the cash shop (you can use farmable in-game currency to buy the cash shop currency).

In ESO, I grew to really love the group content through the years (especially the difficult content) but I enjoy the solo questing, crafting, and housing a lot too.
AD is the best looking faction. I don't make the rules, I just enforce them.

I don't play MMOs because of the presence of other players, I play them despite the presence of other players.

I do play MMOs (if I like the setting) because of the constant addition of new content and the relatively low tech requirements. This is where I find MMOs to be better than single player games.

I stop playing MMOs in case I run out of interesting content. This usually happens once all additional content is multiplayer only (as happened with WildStar and SWTOR).
