Magicka Dragonknight Class Changes

With the recent race changes coming with Update 21, I want to gather other opinions from people who are very familiar with the Dragonknight Class, Magicka specifically, and see which class if now going to be considered “BiS” for The Magicka DK. Here are the current Magicka changes being implemented next update. If the changes to High Elf can stack with the Combustion passive then this will be extremely strong when it comes to sustain.

High Elf
Increases Experience gain in Destruction Staff Skill Line by 15%, extra 1% Generic Experience gain → No changes
Spellcharge: 9% Magicka Recovery → Spell Recharge: Restore 575 Magicka or Stamina, based on whichever is higher, after activating a Class Ability. This effect can occur once every 6 seconds. Reduces damage taken by 5% while you are using an ability with a cast or channel time.
Gift of Magnus: 10% Max Magicka → Syrabane’s Boon: Increases your Max Magicka by 2000.
Elemental Talent: 4% Fire/Shock/Ice damage → Increases your Spell Damage by 258.


Dark Elf
Increases Experience gain in Dual Wield Skill Line by 15%, reduces damage taken from Lava by 50% → No changes
Dynamic: 6% Max Stamina and Magicka → Increases your Max Stamina and Magicka by 1250.
Resist Flame: 3% Max Magicka and 2079 Flame Resistance → Increases your Max Health by 600 and your Flame Resistance by 2310. You are immune to the Burning status effect.
Destructive Ancestry: 7% Flame damage and 2% Frost/Shock Damage → Ruination: Increases your Weapon and Spell Damage by 258.


Breton
Increases Experience gain in Light Armor Skill Line by 15%, extra 1% Alliance Point gain → No changes
Gift of Magnus: 10% Max Magicka → Increases your Max Magicka by 2000.
Spell Resistance: 3960 Spell Resistance → Gain 2310 Spell Resistance and 100 Magicka Recovery.
Magicka Mastery: 3% Magicka Cost Reduction → Reduces the Magicka cost of your abilities by 7%.


In my opinion, it seems that High Elf would be the best choice considering how the are receiving a special bonus in when using a class ability they receive their main resource, in this case Magicka. I have not tested anything and these changes aren’t final until it is released on the main platform. Thank you for reading and I am interested in reading your opinions!

    High elf is clearly the best choice. RIP to the cool theme of DK fire builds. Glad I spent all that time farming VMA for a now useless inferno staff since I can’t think of any reason you wouldn’t run lightning blockade now.

    staying as Dunmer will result in a DPS loss of about 3-4k for Endgame players.

    While stamina Meele DPS stays high above that, therefore rendering magDK completly useless for progressive play.

    Stamina DK hasnt been in a great spot since the HA nerfs, and is also way below sNB or Stamden.

    Conculsion DK will be driven even more into a Tanking Role, unless they get heavily buffed on classskills like BE, Engulfing and maybe Passives.

    Giving Engulfing an additional 5-10% Firedmg boost, towards the DK appling it would already make the 7% nerf bearable.

    IMO a better Solution my be buffing the searing heat passive, to effect not only Breath, searing strike and Standart, but all Ardent flame abilities by 2/4% and increasing the duration extension from 2sec to 4 sec.

    this ends up in more whips in the rotation, and higher DotDPS, when you cannot stack on a boss.

    no matter how they decide to Buff DK with the Race Change PAtch, they have to compensate the massive DPS loss from MagDK's

    Was trying to look at the bright side. Most of us dark elf magdk are vampires so the immunity to burning sounded kind of nice.

    However, the idea of being out magdk'd by any other race kinda stinks. That fire damage was the center of most our builds.

    Hopefully they do something for dark elves that still give them that edge.

    Still wouldn't change my race. Being an dark elf magdk was a symbol of like awesomeness for me. Can't see it being nearly as cool on a high elf or Breton.

    The new meta can eat it on this one.

    The Immunity is a rally nice change dont get me wrong, but its insignifficant due to Dunmer beeing obsolete now in PVE.

    Just swap to Altmer, get better Regen than vamp provided you with, and deal the same nerfed ammount of DMG (actuall ymore than Dunmer, due to max Magicka being higher) than Dunmer... without the ugly Vamp skin, nor the Fire weakness

    The dark elf changes are good for hybrid dk builds, but you’re probably better off with khajiit or altmer for magicka... though Breton isnt bad.

    Altmer BIS for mDK if those changes go throuh like that.

    Breton prob 2nd place, but sustain may be overkill (in PVE atleast, PVP may be nice to have the sustain)

    For pvp I would say high elf to keep your damage alive, breton if you like a lot of sustain. Argonian and dark elf both got absolutely wrecked so that's out the door now. I foresee just about every single mag dk changing race if they wanna stay competitive pve or pvp

    As I mentioned in the official thread, the change to the flame affinity passive maybe indicates that the extra fire dmg will move from dunmer to mdk, which is not a bad idea imho considering how bad are the offensive capabilities of mDK.

    If not, then ZoS has no idea about what they are doing.

    I would absolutely love if the extra fire damage went from dunmer to an actual DK passive. This would open up more options for different playstyles while still letting Dark Elves be considered an actual choice for pvp.
