Why does a set like Oblivion's Edge Exist?

it would be useful if full soul gems did something helpful in combat like consuming one would increase stamina/magicka or recovery or weapon damage like clever alchemist. then this set would definitely get used by stamina players

These are ones that I use when levelling characters or making gear for a new player as finding complete sets is painful and I like to have the training trait on all pieces.

Armor of the Seducer and Law of Julianos for magica DPS characters.
Hunding's Rage and either Night Mother's Gaze or Ashen Grip for stamina DPS.
Hist Bark and Whitestrake's Retribution for tanks.
Kagrenac's Hope and Seducer or Julianos for healers.
Night's Silence if I am going to be a thief or an assassin a lot.

I think people still use Twice-Born Star.

I am sure I will get some grief for this list but these are what I use, 10 sets still of use. However when I hit CP160 I go dropped sets all the way.

My 5 are..

Julianos
Hundings
Twice-Born Star
Tava's Blessing
Magnus' or Seducers (if sustain is needed)

I actually make a reasonable profit off this set. Killing anything fills a soul gem with it. So its easy money. I take peoples empties and then offer to fill them at a price per stack.

I used this set on my stamplar in skyreach leveling my girlfriend's toon. It doesn't have a cooldown either on gems gained or healing received so making huge pulls it was really easy for a class that lacks of aoe dmg. I filled 5000 soul gems all along, that's 150k gold if I vendor them, so not too bad making extra profit whilst leveling. And let's be honest, Max stamina, weapon crit, stam recovery and weapon dmg are not awful bonus for a utility set.

It is a medium set, the heavy set from VoM is Rattlecage. And yes, it can proc from anything, even goats, scorpions, pocket mammoths or even harmless bunnies

Mind you this was over a year ago, possibly in 1.5 or 1.6, but I remember seeing someone publish a PVP build that utilized this set and vengeance leech. The idea was to slot the soul trap ability (I think it used to have a morph that hit multiple targets, 3 I think) on a nightblade and between siphoning attacks and killers blade manage their sustain with kills through stat returns from vengeance leech and oblivions edge.

Pretty unrealistic now, would take a lot of effort and skill to simply not be a complete joke.

It would be nice if bosses dropped empty soul gems (and sometimes a chance of a filled one), it's silly that people can go into dungeons with no stock of anything survival related, utterly wipe per boss yet get a free life each time, not even Mario is this lucky.

but that's just what it is (OP dps set) with combined with either Leviathan or Toothrow, this is op DPS set cause it gives a lot of crit + wep dam, MY cat Stam NB poison archer stealthy vamp has 84% crit rate, i switch lev for Toothrow & i should get over 90 or 100, sets that just give wep or spell damage are not so good, the ones that give crit are superior what makes this 3 sets OP DPS sets, in wiki i have seen other sets & they are not as good for range DPS, crit rate rules cause u can increase crit dam with CP

+ oblivion heals u to a bit what can save u when boss calls minions cause they die faster

Put one skill point into the soul gem passive and you never have to worry about them being filled assuming you aren't in a low cp group that's wiping every 20 seconds and no one wants to admit they shouldn't be running it and thus you somehow go through a stockpile of them faster than empties can get failed.

It's a worthless set. Just like all the add-spawn sets are worthless (Defiler, Morkuldin, etc.) regardless if crafted or not. I'd really like to run one as it could be useful assuming it actually did damage and/or stayed to fight longer, but if they think bumping it's speed again is going to help, it's not. Even worse is they get confused on what they should be attacking but none of the npc enemies have that trouble.

One skill point is not enough if you do crafting dailies. Especially in multiple characters. There's a lot of empty gems.
I have this set, wear it (+ slot skill) in open world each time I collect 2-3 stacks of empty gems.

Also that's funny to get 2-3 gems filled from one mob
