Update 18 Cyrodiil PVP changes - review and discussion

    I'm actually pretty content with these changes as long as they nail #1.

    Change #5 is also pleasing to me, though catapults would need a damage buff.

    Change #6, I would just prefer more intelligent AI; not necessarily hit likes a bus but a fluid skill system on the guards like they do when you attack them in PvE land.

    Buffing the NPCs, eh. Is this a subtle way of telling PvE players to eff off and give up on that skyshard achievement if we're not going to convert to PvPers? :(

    There are no skyshards at resources or keeps. Other NPCs remain unaffected. The noCP campaigns have had harder flag and keep NPCs for all the time. It’s not an issue.

    Brian Wheeler says on ESO Live that the NPC buffs affect all overland Cyrodiil monsters, including delves.

    @Minyassa - the sky shard achievement is still yours for the taking! The delve monsters are getting buffed, but they shouldn’t be too hard. For Cyrodiil shard hunting, you want this potion - blessed thistle, blue enteloma, namiras rot. It’s speed + invisibility. Fully leveled, its 16 seconds of invisible...if you’re not a nightblade and the npcs challenge you, a good strategy is to fight your way down the entry hall in the delve. Then when it starts to get crowded, pop your invisibility potion and run to the shard. In most delves you can get most of the way there this way.

    @davey1107 Will this work for the skyshard that's in the home keep of the two other factions? Those guard NPCs saw me INSTANTLY when stealthed, from a long distance too, and ran out to kick my butt, and of course that was what attracted another player to come help them do it. If the invisibility hides me from them too, you may have just saved my achievement from certain doom!

    Lol...oh yeah, those guys. So tips on the scroll temple shards. You will need to wait until the gate is open, obviously.

    You can absolutely invisibility potion past the scroll gate guards. They have a LONG line of sight, so kinda test where their boundary is, get them to go back to their start position, then stealth tomthe boundary, use your potion, stand up and WALK past them. You can’t run under the potion. You can retreating maneuver before you use it, though. Just don’t proc and ability...you’ll go visible and get slammed.

    As an alternative, you can do what I do...mount like heck to get through, come off before they knock you off...then keep running until they stop chasing. This can work surprisingly well.

    Once through the gate, the six shards are not guarded. But you should sneak back there so you don’t get Ganked.

    Thank you SO MUCH. This is way more doable than all the other advice I got, which was just "learn to pvp". <3

    They really got buffed - one of worst changes from next patch :| Their DOTs hurt greatly now.
    Taking resources alone is one of my fav things to do, so I made imperial stamblade and went to test new guards.

    When I killed 3 guards in tower and went to 4 guards at flag, very soon I was riding back... :D I was offended, cause last time I was killed by just NPCs was exactly when I wanted to die. Next try was full of close calls and 1 desperate retreat into tower with almost 0 stamina left and just a little health. If there was any enemy player - even some noob light attacking or sniping from distance - I think I would be riding back again. Even after I finally killed them all, I was low on health and resources - it was close call too.

    And even worse, if I was on my actual character - khajiit stamblade wearing same sets - I would be both out of health and out of stamina before I could win :/

    Groups won't notice new buffed guards, developers only hurt lone players by doing this. Trying to force us to group I guess :D

    same as non-CP guards, I see.

    I should add that you might want to try to get those temple shards before Summerset drops regardless. The guards do get me down to 1/2 health when I dash through. If the changes make them too much harder, you might experience difficulty. I mean...it’s four shards...you have until June to get them. Might as well do those before the guards are buffed. But either way you should be fine.

    (For like two years there were no guards because people used them for an exploit. So once when I leveled a character after they were put back, I forgot they were back and just trotted up and all of a sudden got slaughtered, lol).

    @Minyassa I'm going to add that if one faction has been pushed back to their gates AND is underpopulated, there's a good chance disgruntled players are there waiting at the gate. It's easier to speed+invis pot through if people are fighting at the gate and distracted.

    I'm thinking about the change to ballistas.

    Imho, it's a good thing that every siege weapon is stronger at its dedicated purpose.

    The problem is that focusing on siege weapons is useless, even if 3 ballista shots are enough to destroy one treb : it takes time to destroy them and the enemy can pop another immediately.

    I see a few solutions against it :
    • Every time a siege weapon takes a fixed amount of damage, it delays the cooldown by 1 sec (or simply reset the cooldown every amount of damage)
    • Make siege weapons unique.
    • When a siege weapon is destroyed, owner can't pop another one for a long period.
