Unable to log in characters on NA megaserver

Hi there, have a strange issue where I have my characters on NA server and when I try to log in with any of them I get the error - Unable to connect to game server. Please make sure you have a valid internet connection.
This happens with any character I try to load from NA server. I can log into character select screen fine.
Yet I was able to choose EU server and create a new lvl 1 toon and start to play that.....what gives?
Any help would be appreciated
