ZOS: Why do we have this massive oversight with interactable lighting and fires?

Can you just please make a small code change so that only those who are actual homeowner or those with decorator privilege can turn them off .. Its getting rather annoying almost everytime i go to my primary residence and someone has been and turned them all off... I don't want to stop people visiting and enjoying the house but why should i punish everyone because of maybe 1 or 2 people who get a kick from this?

Perhaps the lights off people are only concerned about your utility bills!
A simple solution would be to find some friends who enjoy turning lights on to counter the pesky folk that turn them off, And have them all over for lunch or supper on a regular basis :)

How is that an oversight? What world do you live in? If I walked into your hosue, I'd be able to physically manipulate light sources to turn them off with or without your permission. To complain that it's possible is compeltely stupid.

You need help mate, you play a game where they conjure the elements from the end of sticks, a world where you can carry 200 chests of drawers around with you everywhere you go, pull a banker or a merchant out of your packet in the middle of nowhere, need I go on?. so comparing a game to what can happen in real life means you are either trolling or just too damn engrossed in the game you do not know the difference between fantasy or reality.

It never ceases to amaze me how so many people actually enjoy being petty and irritating. From spamming dye stations with flashy spells to keep people from being able to see what they're doing to the "hilarious" nonsense of going into someone's player house and turning off all their lights... the ways people go out of their way to troll is just ridiculous. This is ONE thing ZoS could easily stop. Yet every time I see this topic come up there is no response to it. @ZOS_GinaBruno c'mon... please say something.

Yes it definitely is a FWP. The thing is the remedy from the player's end is complicated (detection and management of offending players and banned players list), or a huge hassle (checking regularly and turning all the lights on again), or limits freedom of expression (open houses vs. closed houses). The solution from ZOS's end would be much simpler, not controversial, and would make Homesteaders much much happier.

I think it'd be a good idea and hopefully relatively easy to implement. That said, I never have understood why anyone would want to mess around with a guildmate or friend's house, or why anyone would feel the need to show off their house or have visitors other than by direct invitation while present.

No it is not, but in the same vane your post has contributed absolutely nothing to the discussion

Guild house maybe? guildhouse are a big feature, as for my own houses i like people to make use of the dummies and other facilities (outfitting stn's transmute etc) and then (although this does not appeal to me) the role playing community who set up houses for weddings and god knows what else that they can think of.

By that logic we should have open world PvP and be able to loot other players when we kill them, which wouldn't be much of an issue for the deceased player since they wouldn't be able to respawn anyway.

People have been asking for this for a year. ZOS doesn't care. The ability to interact with lighting should be managed by the same permission as Decorator. I have 300 light sources in my home. First time someone turned them all off, I issued a blanket ban to the whole guild and now only 8 friends have permission to visit. Ain't nobody got time for that.

I'm part of several housing guilds on NA/PS4 (bc homestead is one of my favorite things to happen to ESO in a while) and generally almost everyone in each guild has a primary residence with visitor access to guildmates. Since I've joined them I've had certain times when I play exclusively dedicated to exploring my guildmates' creations (I've quite literally spent hours looking at other peoples' homes). So while some may use homestead as more of an individualized immersive experience I don't think it's very confusing to imagine why others would want to show off their creations to their guilds or even the general public ;)

But yes OP, completely agree. Almost seems like a mistake they just never went back and fixed. I wonder if this is across the board for all animated/interactable furnishings? Although someone said censers aren't able to be used except by the homeowner so idk.

I would rather not be there when people are inspecting my house, because I like them to have free reign to do and see whatever they like, without feeling like I am hovering over them. That's also why I prefer to see the houses of others when they are offline, so I don't have to listen to weird stories about how it took two hours to place this loaf of bread, or whatever. Or I can examine a placement of items from all angles at my leisure, to get ideas on how to do something similar in my own houses. And, while I may turn a light of and on to see how it affects the surroundings, or how it works, I will always leave everything just as I found it when I got there.

If I (or they) have specific questions, we can discuss it in whispers, I don't feel the need to be standing in the house to do that, either.

I can fully understand that housing guilds as described by you are going to want to have open access, but I'd have thought that by the very nature of those guilds they are not going to be prone to the kind of abuse of those access rights that is being discussed here.

Fair enough. I personally haven't had this done to me (yet?), which is surprising seeing as my home is open to 1000+ people. Lighting & interactable furnishings really should have been thought about in terms of decorator/owner terms, not sure why anyone can use them.

Our housing guild had this problem and it was dealt with but there was a bit of grief involved.

I like being able to turn lights on and off in other peoples houses, but I always leave them like I found them. I want to see the difference. To that end I would rather the owner be allowed to have a default setting his/her home returns to when guests leave instead of simply not allowing non decorators to mess with the lights.
