Thoughts about no champion pvp experiment?

So the grand zos experiment with no champion points is complete. I ran most of my characters in pvp for a session or two to level them up. How did people think the game performed? My thoughts:

1. Lag was amazingly reduced in big battles. I won't say things performed perfectly, but I remember early on getting into a 40 v 40 war at an outpost and being amazed that the system was utterly overloaded. I had stutter, but the sort of stutter I could encounter in a 4 v 4 resource battle normally.

2. IMO, to make the pvp game work at all, IC needs to be removed from the campaigns and placed into its own unrelated instance. The 24/7 packed servers showed how badly IC populations can throw the overland game out of whack. I waited in queue from 150th place one night, only to arrive and find that the maps was swarming with blue zergs with virtually no significant gold or red forces.

3. Lag or no lag, the pvp game needs a refresh. ZOS has promised 4 updates per year starting with Morrowind. They've said they'll do a new expansion "chapter" each second quarter, with the other three being dungeon DLCs, game system additions (like homestead) and dungeon DLCs (meh). I'd request that they take one of the non-chapter updates and offer a new Cyrodiil pvp game. I'm not suggesting a ground-up redesign, but maybe make it "Alliance War, year 3" or something. Take the opportunity to imagine how you'd keep the same basic map and concepts but create a pvp that refreshes the game.

4. No CPs...oh yeah...like 18 months ago stam DKs were invincible. How utterly fun to relive the joy of the derpy builds that can't be killed but also can't deal damage. Lol.

Performance wise I didn't notice any difference from the norm. What I did see more of was crashing though. Entire groups crashing during big battles seemed to be more often than during normal prime time fights.

As for the actual battle, it was nonCP. I've played nonCP quite a bit in the past. Solo players are even more at a disadvantage, while groups hold an even larger upper hand.

Overall all I really care about is to see server statistics from the test. Hopefully @ZOS_GinaBruno @Wrobel and @ZOS_RichLambert can hook us up with some statistics at some point soon.

The funny in a sad way is all the people praising no CP for "balance" or less lag are gone. Azura is now a dead campaign again, NA PC. How can so many say such good things about no CP then go back to the CP campaigns?

Because people dont want to lose out on their current campaign leader-board position. Honestly, ZOS should've suspended the leaderboard during that week and reset the after. I bet there are people wanting to play non-cp but dont want to lose on on half a month of gains.

I believe the difference in lag was noticeable, crashing aside (which happened in weekends prior and affected everyone even those not in cyrodiil). During large-scale keep battles with well over a hundred the lag, in my experience, didn't happen. Now going back to cp, to wait out the TF campaign, lag was horrendous in keep battles with things seizing up at crucial moments. I do think CP is negatively impacting gameplay in that regard.

Played first day of CP return to Scourge. Took a 15k incap in medium armor 2100 impen. Took a 14k crystal frag in same setup. Set Azuras as guest. Was the only red online for 3 days. Loaded up BF1. Good times. Might go back and farm mats.

Would only play no cp voluntarily if they removed cost poisons.

PS4 NA. I've avoided vet PVP because I'm only ~340 CP. I spend my time crafting, running dungeons, and doing non-vet blackwater blade on alts to better learn the other classes and PVP mechanics.

Week of CP-free PVP encouraged me to dive back in with my main character. Argonian Templar with spinners and clever alchemist. I had a lot of fun. Felt balanced. If I died it was because I was outnumbered or outplayed. Lag got really bad on the weekend, so I went to Imperial City for the first time and it was a blast. I finally found out where to craft armor master and made some friends along the way. Small-scale groups appreciate someone carrying a resto staff.

Now that CP free is over, I'm farming for more spinners pieces and some better monster helms, then I plan to dive into Azuras. I'll probably outfit my vet dragonknight as well.

I agree with you on the IC point. Originally IC access was supposed to be tied to Cyrodiil campaign control, but we all know what happened there. I like to spend time in IC capturing points and smaller scale PvP, but I don't think it needs to be tied to Cyrodiil campaigns any longer. You don't get any campaign credit there, so I don't see the point. Just my opinion...
