So the grand zos experiment with no champion points is complete. I ran most of my characters in pvp for a session or two to level them up. How did people think the game performed? My thoughts:
1. Lag was amazingly reduced in big battles. I won't say things performed perfectly, but I remember early on getting into a 40 v 40 war at an outpost and being amazed that the system was utterly overloaded. I had stutter, but the sort of stutter I could encounter in a 4 v 4 resource battle normally.
2. IMO, to make the pvp game work at all, IC needs to be removed from the campaigns and placed into its own unrelated instance. The 24/7 packed servers showed how badly IC populations can throw the overland game out of whack. I waited in queue from 150th place one night, only to arrive and find that the maps was swarming with blue zergs with virtually no significant gold or red forces.
3. Lag or no lag, the pvp game needs a refresh. ZOS has promised 4 updates per year starting with Morrowind. They've said they'll do a new expansion "chapter" each second quarter, with the other three being dungeon DLCs, game system additions (like homestead) and dungeon DLCs (meh). I'd request that they take one of the non-chapter updates and offer a new Cyrodiil pvp game. I'm not suggesting a ground-up redesign, but maybe make it "Alliance War, year 3" or something. Take the opportunity to imagine how you'd keep the same basic map and concepts but create a pvp that refreshes the game.
4. No CPs...oh yeah...like 18 months ago stam DKs were invincible. How utterly fun to relive the joy of the derpy builds that can't be killed but also can't deal damage. Lol.
