Future Endgame Bosses should be able to crit!

I have long thought about a change that would influence the the rather stale PVE meta.

I think giving mobs in future veteran dungeons and trials the ability to critically strike would be a positive change.

It would make impen gear a viable trait for engame PvE and it would make shields a more appealing alternative for healers and other various support characters.

It would mean that tanks can recieve burst damage outside of telegraphed scenarios and when specing correctly into some Impen they should be fine.

If you think this is a good idea, then you've shown that you've never before played another MMORPG. Games have long since done away with the ability for PVE mobs to crit. The issue becomes you can only make content so hard and then it just becomes 'oh you died to rng'

No. You just change the meta on gear and make death by RNG the difficulty.

Too easy for you? Select Vet Maw enter trial solo. Bash head doing that as often as you want until the next trial comes out. Problem solved.

If future endgame Bosses will be able to crit... then they will need to be designed in completely other way.

Current bosses just deal a lot of dmg. They don't need to do "critical" dmg - because their base dmg values is high. On the other hand.. wouldn't this bosses be too easy with PvP armour, all impenetrable ? ?

There is a mobile app I play (Battlefront) where there is a chance of crit from your units and the enemy ones.

Quote often I will be going for a perfect run because I have good tactics and smart use of my units, however then crit happens and I lose my chance for a max reward because well... random.

I agree with others on that, random extra damage sucks, and when there is a counter, everyone just gets forced into using that. See Dungeons & Dragons Online for this where everyone had to have Heavy Fortification items no matter the build because otherwise "natural 20 dead" happened when fighting bosses.

Oh come now, you mean to say you don't like RNG? How strange!

OP, random spikes of damage with no rhyme or reason is not exciting to me, sorry. I'd rather see mechanics that hurt the group when the deal DPS at the wrong time (think Grobul).

It's an a absolutely horrible idea. OP provides no basis for why he feels this is a good idea outside of bringing in the use as of a 6th trait for PvE armor which is not very sound at all.

It would offer nothing for challenge. RNG isn't really challenge and that's all this is. Lame.

The majority of healing is done through HoTs. Without more access to burst healing, a critical from a boss or mob doesn't have a reactive player answer, and even with 7/7 inpen in PVP crits still happen. RNG wipes, which is what happens in most endgame cases if the main Tank dies are not fun.

PVE and PVP should have a proverbial wall between them. Having gear and builds which are exclusively used for PVP is fine. ZOS doesn't need to hamfist a reason to use Impen in PVE.

How would bosses being able to crit would be fun? Imagine a boss would have the ability to hit a random person either for 15k non crit or 22.5k crit. As trial leader, would you force everyone in your group to get more than 22.5k hp and sacrifice a lot of damage compared to groups who don't do so? Or would you still run with 17k hp and reset the trial every time the boss does crit with that attack?

In my opinion the best way to make bosses more fun is to add more hp to them so you can't skip any mechanics at all.

I too, can make men out of straw.

Just assuming that a random, untauntable attack would be one that could crit is silly.

Adding more health and making bosses more spongy isn't a fix in the least. All you do is lock more players out of endgame content because they can't hit the numbers that only a handful of narrow, highly optimized builds can hit.

Whole PvE is based on NPCs one-shotting players. Healers always keep you on 100%. If someone dies, he dies cuz he got one-shot. What's the point of crit? It'll cause more one-shotting.

    @Jamini

The tools would be everyone forced to wear impenetrable in trials, that's it.

There isn't any great or spiced up gameplay changes from monster crits, it's simply everyone has to wear a specific armour to counter it and done.

As for people liking easy mode, I assume you have vMoL no deaths achievement and can get that every run?

Crits don't make a game harder past making it frustrating with RNG damage. If you want challenge and spiced up gameplay add mechanics which require player thinking and skill to counter, not just slapping on a new set of gear.

    Or shield properly.
Or come in with a higher base health.
    Or not get hit.
Or spend some CP in the crit resistance constellation

Mechanics don't force gear. Your raid leader does. Right now everything is all damage, all the time. Hardly any variation, and it's boring.
As for people liking easy mode, I assume you have vMoL no deaths achievement and can get that every run?

1% of the most repetitive content, running for a no-death run in an instance that is full of mechanical one-shots. One hard instance does not make the entire game "difficult". Even in MoL, there are instances where a raid team absolutely must slot in counters for high-damage moves. That is part of what makes it fun rather than face-roll.
