Stop, and Look Up

I have spent a great deal of time (as many others) running/riding from one location to the next. I have always been amazed at the detail in all that I see around me. But how often do we look up to see all that has been designed for us as well? It is truly amazing at the amount of detail you see just by looking up at the ceiling of a building, the roof of a cavern or the canopy of a forest. Even the sky's can be remarkable (especially at night). So, next time you are out exploring or questing, take a moment and just look up. You may truly be amazed.

    Second this.

I've seen some very pretty full moons (or, perhaps, planets) in the sky when I've taken a moment or two to look up.

Agree! I do this all the time, but then I rarely use mounts. Walking pretty much everywhere gives me plenty of opportunity to stop, look and observe everything around me, including up above.

I remember once, on Khenarthi's Roost. The sun was setting, and I was standing on a tower at Eagles Strand. It was truly marvelous.

I highly recommend going for the Master Angler title if you ever feel bored or find yourself just standing around in capital cities for long periods of time. Along with getting around 70-100+ perfect roe during the length of the title, you will find yourself standing around at almost every location of each map. It was during my time fishing that I was able to truly enjoy the beauty of the game, and see so many things that I had missed when I was just running from quest to quest the first time through. If you are fishing a river or hole in shallow water, catch a couple fish and then fish it from a different side so you can enjoy everything that was behind you too.

Depending on where you are, you can watch time pass by as shadows change shape/shift from the sun "moving"

Like a sun dial, except time is sped up enough so it's noticeable.

I've been doing this a lot recently.

My graphics card died in late November. At the time I was too busy to do anything about it except turn the graphics down to minimum, then I was determined to fix it instead of replacing it. (Did you know putting them in the oven can fix some problems? Neither did I but it really does work...for a while.) It was only recently I gave in and ordered a new one, and then of course it was out of stock and I had to wait for them to get it back in...

So then after about 3 months playing on minimum graphics I suddenly switched to having everything on High (and getting 100 FPS sometimes).

I'm easily distracted anyway, but since then I've been stopping even more than usual to just look at the game world, admiring the grass and the trees and all the little details in everything, as well as the overall impact of the (often very dramatic) scenery. I keep meaning to go back to Bleakrock to check out the Aurora.

I often say I don't really care about graphics in games, and it's true that it doesn't affect my decision. I can enjoy a 30 year old game with incredibly basic graphics (or in fact games with no graphics at all) just as much as the latest shiny thing. But it definitely is a nice bonus when they look as pretty as this one does.

It must be nice seeing everything looking so amazing. My characters have bad eyes because I have to put my graphics card on low setting. Everything is a blur to me.

I often wonder how you fish and have fun. I went on my second fishing trip yesterday and quit after 10 casts. All I did was stare at the fishing bobber the entire time.

I agree. I think Eastmarch at night is the prettiest place and plus the music in that zone is very relaxing.

I turn down the game music to near zero because every so often, I just stop and admire the scenery. What good is the scenery if you have orchestral music droning in the background? Bah!

I'm in Shadowfen now, and the sounds from the swamp are exceptional. I even hear bugs whiz past my ears! Awesome.

I've done this quite a lot myself.

Even in a "starter" area like Stonefalls, at the edge of an ashstorm while the sun is setting... truly gorgeous.

the amount of detail that went into the art in this game continuously astonishes me. :)

When I first hit the area, I hated it. Couldn't get out of it fast enough. On my second character, I realized I was an idiot. Despite being marshy and swampy, it's actually rather beautiful. The sun setting over the area is gorgeous.

You'll enjoy it. Just watch out for those soon-to-be-briefcases-or-shoes always snapping at you.

I agree but I'm most impressed by the lore. It's so detailed and I like how it's worked into the storyline. Pretty much everyone who plays collects the lorebooks but I've often thought how many actually read them and connect them with the storyline. Reading lorebooks explains a lot in this game. Its a very deep backstory.

Yes, the lore books are fantastic! I read them all (the first play trough).
