Johnny Depp sure. Somehow I can't picture DiCaprio or Damon in any role relating to this series. Depp can be quirky enough to tally pull it off and make it cool. Hell, he makes the Pirates movies cool and lets face it, those are seriously cheeseball but fun.
On the matter of the film itself, my concern isn't the budget size but the quality of writing and storytelling. Fantasy can be done in a way that is well done and treats the original subject matter in a positive light. The Lord of the Rings movies for instance had to skip a lot of content, but I think overall they did a rather good job. It can be done, but it usually doesn't get done. It needs good writing first and foremost, followed by good casting, good directing and good filmography.
I personally think something surrounding the intrigue in the court of Queen Barenziah would be interesting. The stories surrounding mad king Pelagius, Queen Potema, or many other villainous figures would be interesting. One could even do a story within the setting about a Vampire hunter tracking down a particularly nasty individual. It doesn't have to be a big over arching plot. But a movie JUST for Elder Scrolls Online? I don't think that'll work. You can take the Harry Potter series and turn them into a movie, but the games suck. You can take Final Fantasy 7 (sorry Roman numbers) and make a movie for it, but I would've rather played it as a game.
Stories are, in my opinion, either suited for books and movies or games only.0 -

I don't think a movie would work to be honest.
ES lore is weird, often self contradictory and non linear most of the time. It is also fundermentally sick and twisted if you read too much into it. And that is what I like about it. I love trying to piece together the stories from the stuff I find lying around, it is the non linear in world story telling that games do best.
If i wanted anything out of game I'd prefer books, I mean more than the in game books and we all know the book is always better.
I had a new player talked about how they enjoyed playing rouges in this game because they really felt like a rouge. I think that is because being terrible without being cartoon evil is perfectly normal in this universe and its not always easy to do in other fanatsy universes.0 -
