Hello. I'm getting ready to build a new PC and would like to see if anyone would be kind enough to offer any feedback. I haven't decided on whether I need that liquid cooler or not, so especially some feedback on that would be nice. Thanks.

Should run very well on that I think. I have a processor of the same strength as that one, as well as a GTX 950 graphics card; and my fps stays pretty steady. I don't believe I've seen it go below 40 fps at any point, except for the odd stutter that can happen, and it usually stays around 60-80 fps, so what you have listed should be more than enough.

That looks like a good build.

    A few things though:

    1. You won't need the liquid cooling. The Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo is a beast. I can overlock my Fx 8350 to 4.7 Ghz pulling over 200 wats from the wall and temps never go over 51c even under heavy load during stress testing with Intel Burntest. As long as you apply your thermal paste correctly, run the system till its hot, shut it off for a half hour, turn it on, run it again, repeat for a few days to properly cure your TIM you will be in good shape.

    2. The 1440p Monitor. As someone who owns a 1440p Monitor, i'd err against getting one with anything less then a Fury X/GTX 1080/980Ti. The GTX 1070 is NOT enough to max settings in all games and get 60 FPS. The 1070 is technically a 1080p card.

    GTX 1060 - High Settings 1080p
    GTX 1070 = Max Settings 1080p
    GTX 1080 = High/Max Settings 1440p
    GTX Titan X/TitanZ/1080Ti - Max Settings 1440p/4k

AMD Vega GPU will be coming out very soon(1st week of march if rumors are true) it may be prudent to wait. AMD tends to give their cards very large memory bus(384 and 512bit) for about 100 dollars less then their Nvidia rivals...

If you can wait just a few weeks longer, you will get a better deal regardless if you go with Nvidia or AMD...rumors are Vega will be packed with HBM(High Bandwidth Memory) much like the Fury X was which makes it simply own at high resolutions such as 1440p.

If your set on buying now and staying with 1440p, try to find a way to get a GTX 1080. You will be much happier with it at that resolution and it will last you quite a bit longer.

I've been reading conflicting information about this until someone clarified for me earlier on another website. They said the GTX 1070 can push a 1440p 60hz monitor very well. It is when someone tries to use it to push a 1440p 144hz monitor that it starts to dip below 60fps. I'm only getting a 60hz, I don't need a refresh rate higher than that.

I've used a 1440p monitor for few years now and would never go back to 1080p.

I ran ESO for years on a Nvidia EVGA GeForce GTX 670 FTW+ 4GB on 1440, sure I didn't get 60fps, but I ran it on mostly very high settings (didn't use AA as not really needed in my opinion at that res) and loved it.

    Looked superb.

I recently upgraded to a 8GB XFX RADEON RX480 Black Edition OC, and I run on Ultra absolutely fine, sometimes 90FPS +, sometimes 45 FPS but always smooth and lag free.

Just been running around killing stuff in Obsidian Scar, didn't go below 70 FPS once and most of the time was in the 90s

I think we concentrate on the numbers too often rather than what it plays like?

    Eveything looks great.

1 thing, I would drop the liquid cooling and put that savings to get maybe an i7-7700k. ESO needs fast single processor power and the liquid cooling is not necessary if you are getting the big air cooler.

Or just pocket the savings and keep the i5. Your setup will run everything on max anyway with very good FPS, except for the obligatory mention of PvP with tonnes going on. That will kill any system no matter the power.

In regards to what @RinaldoGandolphi says about the 1440, I don't know. I can set my 1060 card to render at 1440 using NVIDIA DSR and it runs everything just fine. Maybe he can expand on this will some real world test or something.

Yah that would make sense to me given my experience.

That is precisely what I did actually. I forgot to update this thread with what I decided on so here it is. Will be ordering these parts friday morning when my direct deposit hits the bank.

Thank you to everyone who provided feedback.

Ok...lots to look at so I will only comment on what I would do a little differently.

Go with the next level up CPU: Intel 7th Gen Intel Core Desktop Processor i7-7700K (BX80677I77700K) You will be happy you did as games progress so your system will have longevity and really kick tail.

Definitely go with Liquid Cooling. DEFINITELY. Why? Because it is so much quieter and much better than just air cooling. I have the EVO 212 and a Liquid Cooling system on my two systems. The liquid cooling is so much quieter than air cooling and the fans won't have to spin at such high levels for cooling. The Corsair H100i is a great choice. I use a Cooler Master liquid cooler and love it.
RAM: At least 16 Gig in my opinion. Your pick is a good one!
Solid State drives are great if you can afford them. Perhaps a Firecuda instead of a Barracuda? I'm currently using the FIrecuda over my Barracuda. 2TB Firecuda was $104 a few months ago. Think it's cheaper now. But if you can afford a 2TB SSD...go for it instead!
Good choice on the vid card. All I can say is if you have the $ go for a 1080X.
Bigger power supply: EVGA makes some great Bronze 850Watt modular power supplies for under a $100.
Don't go with an OEM version of Windows. EVER. You will not be able to transfer it to another system if/when you upgrade. For a few dollars more I suggest the Retail version of Windows 10 Home.
Monitor: Suggest looking at an Ultrawide monitor. Changes gameplay significantly. Many choices out there...27inch minimum diagonal size.
Oh...one more thing. Full size cases are HUGE....take a look at a mid size case instead. Plenty of room for your board and components. Corsair makes some great cases.

I've got a 980, and it works more than fine at 1440p and I rarely dip below 60 FPS unless I'm in a major city or I'm in Trials with a lot of Magicka users. Also, suggesting a 980Ti -vs- a 1070? In pretty much every benchmark the 1070 came in faster than a 980 Ti (and for far, far less cost). That would actually be a minor downgrade.

Nice build OP. Nice to see someone invest in a good rig. (Might be worth waiting to see what Ryzen brings to the table in a couple weeks)

Liquid cooling is not a bad option but if you air cool instead go Noctua. Liquid cooling I like for RGB lighting and keep the RAM/CPU cleaner/cleared.

Also not sure in choice for Zotak. Is that personal preference? I prefer MSI for their twin frozr cooler.

Your monitor choice is really good but there is a 27inch LG 4K monitor out there with a really good picture that can be snagged for 400 on a good day. If that is in your budget. (Just because monitor is 4k doesn't mean you can't down scale the game to 1440p)

*whistles* Wish I had that when I first built my PC!

Really though, if you're concerned about performance for ESO, that PC is more than enough for ESO. I'm not familiar with that Scythe cooler though... I personally own a PC with an H80 liquid cooler, and a PC with a DH-15 (Noctua). The Noctua is hands down better cooling and lower noise than the H80 corsair. Not sure if you're interested but you may want to read up on the Noctua. Same style cooler, but seems more well known (although of course more well known doesn't always mean better).

I feel like for gaming, an I7 is very uneccesary. The price jump is substantial and today's games dont' take full advantage of the extra cores. By the time gaming does embrace more cores, I imagine it'll be time for an upgrade anyways ;)

Also I love my 850 EVO, good call.

To clarify if you look at benchmarks from Toms, Anatech, etc the 1070 just barely holds ultra settings at 60fps in some titles. In others there are noticeable dips.

If your going to get a 1440p monitor then you might as well go all out and get a gtx 1080. The 1070 will not max games out a year from now, the 1080 will, and you will be able to sli down the road with 2 high end cards.

Save up the extra 150 bucks and buy the 1080 for that resolution trust me. It will be way smoother, it will last significantly longer, thus saving you money in the long run...either buy a 384 card now and have to upgrade or sli in 2 years at that resolution, or buy the 1080 now and be able to skip a generation before you have to upgrade again. Your choice.

You can never buy overkill for 1440p and 4K res. You can never have enough gpu power for that res
