That's nonsense. Gear stats, weapon and armour passives are a huge part of character builds. You can't compare classes in an artificial environment where they fight eacht other naked and without weapons.
Just curious, how is balance between the different classes. I know right now there is balance issues with gear sets and what not, so let's exclude that. My question is concerning just the classes themselves in all game modes. Are they pretty even, are do some classes under/over-perform?

Compared to launch the balance is tremendously improved. You can make a viable character with any of the 4 classes, both stamina and magicka flavors.
