Critical Resistance?

I just have a quick question about Critical Resistance in PvP. How effective is a higher stat CR compared to a lower stat, and what would be a good number to have in PvP in terms of a DrangonKnight tank?

    CRITICAL HITS

Now critical hit resistance did not work as I first thought. So I'm adding this special part specifically to explain how it works. Now first thing to note is that you cannot critically hit a damage shield, however the damage overflow from a depleted shield can critically hit. So if you do 10000 damage and you hit a 5000 damage shield the 5000 that are left over can critically hit and the base multiplier for that is 1.5 aka 50% so that would mean you would hit for 7500 after you deplete the targets shield. Now the resistance for this works like this. Stacking Critical hit damage increase is actually additive and not multiplicative and so for the reduction for it we are gonna subtract. So say you have 100p into Resistant and the enemy has only the base critical hit then it would function like this. you take the 1.5 and subtract 0.25 for the 25% resistance and you are then left with 1.25 and so their critical hit would only hit for 25% more than its base. Say that you have all types of critical hit resistance and the enemy has all types of increase in critical damage then it would look like this. 2.45-0.72=1.75 Which means that their multiplier for critical hits would be 75% more instead of 145%. Note that all of this is done before any of the above mentioned mitigation, in PvP if a player critically hits you this is the first part of the calculation for how much damage you will receive. Below is a list of all the possible ways of resisting critical hits. I moved the first 2 there from their previous spots above and added Impen.
    • 0-25% CP Passive: Resistant (Critical Hits)
    • 0-27% Armor Trait: Impenetrable (Critical Hits)
    • ~19% Armor Set: Transmutation (Critical Hits)* Resist depends on quality of set

Quoted myself from my damage mitigation thread. This is a brief explanation to how Critical Resistance works. But as you can see it mentions in it how regular mitigation comes into play after. So if you wanted to you could stack more regular mitigation as well for an effect that way. Its all up to you how you use your stats to get the protection that you want. There is no right or wrong, just build diversity. Some go glass cannons some do not. See what you want. Oh and if you want to know about the regular mitigation the thread is in my signature. Slight out of date on some armor sets but other than that the math is still the same.

250 crit resist is 3.7% critical dmg reduction.

3300 is the crit resist cap which is 50% reduction.

you want as much cp as you can get, i.e. 7p gear with impen + 30 points into impen cp.

Depends in your build, a magplar will want a few sturdy pieces for s&b bar.

You do want as much as you can get away with though

I went and tested this just cause of your claim and I found the complete opposite. There is no Critical Resistance cap. At least not at 50%. And an easier way to write the first thing btw is 66 critical resistance equals 1% critical damage reduction. I also found that the CP passive Resistant is not accurate. It says it gives 25% resistance at 100p however, it does not, it gives 37.86% Cause it gives 2499 which divide by 66 is just that and I tested it in practice and not just theory. It did do the amount I theorized.

I usually run 7 piece impen + 30 points in resistant star. This is a comfortable balance for me so I can still get Unchained and some points in Quick Recovery. That amounts to ~2500 crit resist.

If you want to double check do it yourself take the extra money and respec into 100p into resistant and ask someone to crit hit you and compare to what the actual damage should be vs your damage taken. Don't forget to take your mitigation into account. All I can do is give you numbers but honestly you could just as easily dismiss that as you did this. So do it yourself

It wasn't a claim, it used to be these numbers anyway last time i bothered checking.

@Crown Last time i bothered with the actual maths was reading your thread, did you update it? Someone mentioned zos changed the maths a bit this patch.

@leepalmer95 I started on a new sheet in there.. The difference is how much you get on CP and existence of medusa set, not the inner workings of the math. I never finished updating the new sheet, though did add "attacker's perspective" to help more people understand.
