Whatever this issue is, it must be something that cannot wait.
Zos_Engineers: Guys, we need to do a HotFix. Issue with XXX in the game.
ZOS_Management: Welp, can it wait until Monday when we do the update?
Zos_Engineers: Well, not really. It's pretty bad and if they find the bug it's going to mess with the economy!
ZOS_Management: Ok, well, they ain't going to like it. Taking it down prime time in EU
Zos_Marketing: True, but to be honest, it doesn't matter what we do, they're all going to flame us in the forums...
Zos_Community: Yup. But then, that's why we don;t get involved in chat there any more. It's just pointless.
Zos_Management: Fine, take it down and get the fix.
Zos_Engineers: Hey, why don;t we at least do the update for Monday at the same time. At least it means we don't have to take the servers down on Monday....
Zos_Marketing: Not a bad idea. However, I bet they won't care and will still *** about it.
Zos_Management: They will, they always have. There's never going to be a good time to do it. Ok, make it happen and we'll go on to Reddit for the 6 hrs it's done.
Zos_Marketing: Agreed.
Zos_Engineers: *click* Ok then, they've got the 5minute notice. I'm going to get a coffee and bacon sandwich. I'll be back in a couple of hours and we'll crank out the update.

Monday is patch day - do your six hours then. If you've got a small emergency hotfix for Saturday then do it and do it quick.
I'm not sure what you are thinking but it certainly feels like you basically don't care about your non-NA customers.
A lot of people are complaining about the effect of this maintenance time for people living in their particular region, but there is no way on earth that ZOS would *choose* weekend maintenance. Saturday is prime time in every country and region. Think about it: Europe is getting shafted, Asia is getting shafted, Oceania is getting shafted - even people on the West Coast of North America and those who stay up late on the East Coast are getting shafted. Whatever this issue is, it must be something that cannot wait.
I for one am in favour of bugs, exploits and server errors getting fixed as soon as possible.
There are other games in the world, other fun ways to spend a Saturday. If I didn't have other plans for today, I'd be hanging out on my Guild Teamspeak while playing Elder Scrolls Legends or Skyrim.

They have said they had a small hotfix but decided to roll in Mondays maintanance patch as well. So the issue most people have is not that there is downtime per-se, but that something small which needs to be fixed has ended up with 6 hours of downtime during the prime period of play for many people.
It's the decision making that's flawed here, not the need to patch something important.
Wow. Some of you kids need to get outside and get some fresh air. It's just a video game...
