Maintenance on a weekend?

Meh, becoming less and less likely to reup in January when my sub runs out.

You want to impress me ZOS? Since the actions of a few are impacting the game time of many on a weekend, ban those who took advantage of it and let us know about it. I have no faith in the integrity of your policy enforcement anymore; which is why my subscription sits in cancelled status. Still active until the middle of January, but I currently feel no compulsion to plug my CC digits in to reup it.

If you want my continued financial support, you have to EARN it.

A lot of people are complaining about the effect of this maintenance time for people living in their particular region, but there is no way on earth that ZOS would *choose* weekend maintenance. Saturday is prime time in every country and region. Think about it: Europe is getting shafted, Asia is getting shafted, Oceania is getting shafted - even people on the West Coast of North America and those who stay up late on the East Coast are getting shafted. Whatever this issue is, it must be something that cannot wait.

I for one am in favour of bugs, exploits and server errors getting fixed as soon as possible.

There are other games in the world, other fun ways to spend a Saturday. If I didn't have other plans for today, I'd be hanging out on my Guild Teamspeak while playing Elder Scrolls Legends or Skyrim.

I'm adding my voice to the masses here. This was a stupid idea.

Monday is patch day - do your six hours then. If you've got a small emergency hotfix for Saturday then do it and do it quick.

I'm not sure what you are thinking but it certainly feels like you basically don't care about your non-NA customers.

They have said they had a small hotfix but decided to roll in Mondays maintanance patch as well. So the issue most people have is not that there is downtime per-se, but that something small which needs to be fixed has ended up with 6 hours of downtime during the prime period of play for many people.

It's the decision making that's flawed here, not the need to patch something important.

And if ZOS needs 6 hours for just the hotfix then they should have said that. They should have communicated better.

They are just replacing newest quest character hillarious-Clint with done-all-t'Rum.

While hillarious-Clint was supposed to be dark elf male character of thieves guild, they decided to go with a khajiit of dark brotherhood who spends his days drinking in the desert and challenging everyone he meets.

Ok, so it's a hit fix that was so urgent. This will be the second day in a row when I have had interrupted coverage at a time I was able to run the game. So my subscription was pointless for two days.

Yesterday the game did a massive 7 hour update for no apparent reason at all. It looked like a complete reinstall. Never mind, I said to myself, there is always tomorrow. I can get a good session in then.

    Laugh out loud!

Pardon my angst but I feel let down and need to vent. So six hours on to 9:00am (Euro Server) means mid afternoon. Of course, if you are on the US server, then 10am and plenty of choice for when you run the game, and we all enjoy a lie in on a Saturday.

My point? Well, is this the new America? Stuff the rest of the world? Surely the EU server could have gone into maintenance at 4am here? Even if We all went into maintenance the same time, because that was when this was discovered, have a care, other time zones are available!

So two days out of the excellent Wrothgar celebrations.

Zos_Engineers: Guys, we need to do a HotFix. Issue with XXX in the game.

ZOS_Management: Welp, can it wait until Monday when we do the update?

Zos_Engineers: Well, not really. It's pretty bad and if they find the bug it's going to mess with the economy!

ZOS_Management: Ok, well, they ain't going to like it. Taking it down prime time in EU

Zos_Marketing: True, but to be honest, it doesn't matter what we do, they're all going to flame us in the forums...

Zos_Community: Yup. But then, that's why we don;t get involved in chat there any more. It's just pointless.

Zos_Management: Fine, take it down and get the fix.

Zos_Engineers: Hey, why don;t we at least do the update for Monday at the same time. At least it means we don't have to take the servers down on Monday....

Zos_Marketing: Not a bad idea. However, I bet they won't care and will still *** about it.

Zos_Management: They will, they always have. There's never going to be a good time to do it. Ok, make it happen and we'll go on to Reddit for the 6 hrs it's done.

    Zos_Marketing: Agreed.

Zos_Engineers: *click* Ok then, they've got the 5minute notice. I'm going to get a coffee and bacon sandwich. I'll be back in a couple of hours and we'll crank out the update.

Lol! This coffee and bacon sandwich has me intrigued. It's definitely a winning combination, but how to get the coffee into a sandwich? Soak the bread? Truly a breakfast for champions that fits in your hand!

I'm in favor of fixing bugs and exploits as well, but adding the normal 6-hour maintenance to a Saturday morning hot fix shows a total disregard for their customer base. It's not a stretch to say the majority of their customers are off from work this morning. Monday morning, I'll be in the office, along with the majority of the US customer base. My job doesn't allow me much game time during the week, so if I can't play on the weekend before I have to get moving on yard work and "honey do" items, there's not much value in paying to not play.

So be it. I'm sitting on 25,000+ crowns, so I can use them to purchase the DLCs, and just be a freeloader moving forward :)

You guys at ZoS takes *** up decisions again and again. Why not just do the hotfix today and leave the patch for Monday? You know its Saturday in EU right? Compared to Mondays it might maybe, by a tiny margin be more ppl free to play on a Saturday? Oh well this game is bit by bit loosing on me so i guess its all good, and im really sure that in the future i wont pick up any game run by ZoS, thats for sure.

This game has more down time for maintenance than any other game I have ever played. What is really pathetic is many of the issues continually reported are still outstanding after three years. Why they decided to have a maintenance on Saturday and during the Veterans Day weekend really takes the cake. They could at least state the reasons for this weekends maintenance and maybe the players would be more understanding.

If is something is broke enough bring down anytime, I am ok with that, with so many things broken in this game it needs like 6 months offline to fix or maybe longer LOL Estimated 6 hours pc down time it is truly end of days..LOL

I am more interested in seeing what they are fixing and seeing what new things they broke

So what am I going to do with my Saturday afternoon?

The cricket just finished for the day, so I'll have to watch the rugby - England v South Africa.

Which means I'll have to go down the pub.

    Which means I'll get drunk.

    Again

ZoS, downtime is bad for my health!

It's the decision making that's flawed here, not the need to patch something important.

The thing is, they would need to take the servers down in order to deploy the patch. So it wouldn't be 4 hours on Saturday plus 2 hours on Monday, it would be 4 hours on Saturday plus another 4 hours on Monday. It would also mean two stupidly early morning starts for our Community Staff in the same week. Jessica and Gina both have small children, I don't know about Kai, but certainly it seems unfair to make these people work obnoxious hours two days apart. To say nothing of the technical people at ZOS in Maryland who have to liaise with the technical people at the server farms in Texas and Frankfurt...

Look, I understand that we're paying them for a service. I have been subscribed constantly since 5 days early access and bought at least one additional Crowns pack. However, I also happen to have lived with a senior systems administrator for 19 years. If you're not in the industry it's difficult to imagine the demands that are placed on you, and the extent to which out-of-usual-hours working can disrupt your health and family life - to say nothing of your own leisure time. A bit of overtime for working in the early morning - that is, if you even get overtime - is not really enough to compensate.

So, to me, it makes sense to do all the maintenance at once. Of course, it would have been better if they'd left it until Monday when they only impact Oceania and people who do shift work or are unemployed, but presumably the issue needed to be dealt with immediately.

LOL. I like it happening now. And the tears of all the people who sneer, when I might complain about it's timing in the week, is so very tasty.

Now, before you go off at me, consider this, the aggravation that it regularly causes myself, and others who would normally be playing between 4AM USEST and 10AM USEST on a Monday, doesn't get shared around normally, we just have to wear it. The complaints we make, aren't so much about the time, so much as it's about the unfairness, since it takes an entire day/nights play from us. At least on a weekend it is far more likely that everyone actually has far more time to arrange their activities around the downtime. So now all the people currently complaining, who would normally advise those of us who don't like the consistent Monday downtimes to go outside and experience the weather, can take their own advice :).

Of course this is still screwing my hireling mails around but that just means I use this as a reset loss instead of Monday :p .
