Maintenance on a weekend?

    It's a question of judgement.

Reminds me of the recent crown sale. They couldn't offer it on all platforms at the same time so they offered it on two, pissing off the third. The two who got it wouldn't have known or cared if they hadn't gotten it until it could be offered on all three. Dumb.

Now a hotfix is another issue and usually (as in had better be) a potentially serious destabilizing matter. Fine.

But the reason you perform patches on a Monday is so that you can deal with what the patch may have broken during the lowest traffic time of the week. It's poor judgement to combine the two during the highest traffic time of the week.

Finally, it's no way to treat your employees. It signals something amiss with the organization itself.

Can you explain hotfix for what?

I can not find anywhere saying that they are applying hotfix for xxxxx....

They are taking 6 hours away from me.

Why don't you just not play all of Monday (show some solidarity and don't complain) ... then maybe you will understand.

Instead of having 100's of threads with people complaining about "The servers were just down a little over a day ago and now they are down again?" they are actually going ahead and tossing the next regular maintenance in with this Hotfix.
    This I appreciate :)

Except that (as I understand it) a hotfix wouldn't take the servers down, they're usually just downloaded and applied when the Launcher starts up.

Taking the EU server down from 09:00-15:00 on a Saturday just seems madness.

Zos_Engineers: Guys, we need to do a HotFix. Issue with XXX in the game.

ZOS_Management: Welp, can it wait until Monday when we do the update?

Zos_Engineers: Well, not really. It's pretty bad and if they find the bug it's going to mess with the economy!

ZOS_Management: Ok, well, they ain't going to like it. Taking it down prime time in EU

Zos_Marketing: True, but to be honest, it doesn't matter what we do, they're all going to flame us in the forums...

Zos_Community: Yup. But then, that's why we don;t get involved in chat there any more. It's just pointless.

Zos_Management: Fine, take it down and get the fix.

Zos_Engineers: Hey, why don;t we at least do the update for Monday at the same time. At least it means we don't have to take the servers down on Monday....

Zos_Marketing: Not a bad idea. However, I bet they won't care and will still *** about it.

Zos_Management: They will, they always have. There's never going to be a good time to do it. Ok, make it happen and we'll go on to Reddit for the 6 hrs it's done.

    Zos_Marketing: Agreed.

Zos_Engineers: *click* Ok then, they've got the 5minute notice. I'm going to get a coffee and bacon sandwich. I'll be back in a couple of hours and we'll crank out the update.

heh. I traded my morning shift for an afternoon shift, and was looking forward to easing into the day with lots of coffee, some gaming, maybe doing some dishes inbetween... then going to work at some point. now the downtime ends just when I headed out to work, if they stick to their plan.

actually... kinda curious if it will be back up by the time i get back home, tbh

Badly warned, probably not that much important, but at least they used their brains and merged this hotfix with tha regular weekly patch.

They have taken 6-14 hours away from me at points since I began playing this game back in August.

I used to complain also, but now I quit complaining because no matter what someone is going to have the game taken away from them during a time that they wished to be able to play it, regardless of where we live.

I happen to sleep of the day/late afternoon and am up all night. How do you think the 4AM maintenances affect me? I found that instead of complaining on the forums about the downtime I instead fill that time by playing another game.

Best solution is to make a EU server and a NA server.

Even then I bet EU/NA players will not be satisfied with the times ZOS chooses to bring their server down.

It's a no win situation for any of us.

6h downtime for Pc due to a "small hotfix"?

Other games roll out whole expansions in the time frame you need for a small hotfix.
    Utterly disappointing.

It's funny to see all those unemployed people, not understanding the difference between a saturday and a monday. For your information, those of us who have to work to make a living will propably be working on monday and couldn't care less if the servers are down or not, because knowing that the servers are up does not make work more enjoyable.

I think it's funny that someone with a 9-5 job, 5 days a week does not understand there is people working weekends, night shifts, shift rotations and trying to make the best out of whatever scattered free time they get. This 'making the best out of things' including to not get overly upset about something like a game downtime.

    Badly warned.

That is properly due to the fact that in the USA

    NOV 8th was Election Day

    and

    Nov 11th was Veteran's Day.

Most businesses were closed for both of those days.

It's more than a hot fix they are also rolling out Mondays patch as well so there should not be any downtime Monday.

If a tech company makes a call, to take their game offline to fix something, it needs fixing. It's clearly an emergency change, and they have the foresight to pull forward the regular update into today so you don't have dual downtime. I say good job ZOS.

Enough of the moaning peeps, if you want the game fixed they need downtime to fix it. Sucks for EU, APMEA timing wise but what can they do.

Agreed tho that open comms policy on what the fix was would be nice.

You absolutly misunterstood my comment. Of course there will be people who profit from this, but most won't. I was just trying to say that most people will not care about the argument "Well at least servers are up on Monday" because it's not going to help them much.
  • That Darn Argonian
I'm currently working three jobs, (four if you count the commissions I do on the side.)
I work all 7 days of the week, depending on what shifts I'm given, usually getting one full day off and that can be any particular day.

I'm working later today, am I annoyed at a patch right now? Yes, because I wanted to play for a while before work.

Do I understand that the majority of people have mainly weekends off? Yep. I do and I can genuinely see your frustration, but please don't assume that people "don't work for a living" if they see Saturday as a regular (working) day.

I do understand the difference between the 2 days.

However, my hubby works 12 hour shifts (6PM- 6AM) , 5 days a week. he is a ESO+ member, and this is one of his days off of work.

Do you know what he is doing right now? Trolling the Destiny forums and playing Destiny on Xbox One.

Maybe the rest of you should find an alternative game to play also so when this game goes down, you have something to fill the gap.

So you don't feel like you have wasted your "off time".....

Its the weekend I guess which is making this a bigger issue. On weekdays and on this time, EU wont have a big problem with it but on a weekend when we have the free time? It hurts lol.
