Is Grim Harlequin Motif limited time exclusive of the crown store or not?

It's all speculation until it goes live, but here are my 2 cents:

If they release Exclusive Crown Store Motifs that can not be found in game, then these absolutely need to be bound after crafting. If that is done, then it is no different than any other costume, and I could not care less.

On the other hand, if a Crafter is able to buy a motif that is not obtainable in game and use mimic stones to create gear for others, then the Crown Store has jumped the shark. They might as well sell gold for crowns, because this does EXACTLY the same thing and is 100% NOT acceptable.

All of this might be moot anyways as I am pretty sure one Tamriel is going to destroy the economy, but that's a different thread.

Since the showcase several people asked if the motif is gonna be a crown store exclusive and if yes why but still no one has answered.
We need a clarification to that and if that is the case indeed everyone should be against it. Cause even if many people don't like the appearance of this motif they should keep in mind that probably stalhrim motif is gonna be crown exclusive too. And it goes downhill from there with separating crafters online to the ones having all in game motifs and those who were willing to pay the ones available only on the crown store.
    My Proposes are those:
    - make it a costume instead
    - make it work like imperial style transmogrification for our current gear
    - make it tradeable so even people in game can buy it somehow

Making it tradeable would end up with people paying irl $ for gold. There is a reason crown store items are bound.

I have never seen so many people get so wound up over cosmetics in a game.

The rare triple-post, seen here in its natural habitat.

Also people are wound up over cosmetics, they are wound up over ZOS's monetization strategy. The Breton Hero Costume rage was people wound up over cosmetics.

I honestly don't understand why people care. If you don't want to spend your money on it then don't.

No reason to compassion because someone else is willing to spend money to obtain the motif. As long as the stay with cosmetics and convenience items like they have been then it really does not matter. People are wound up over cosmetics.
Have you seen the posts expressing concern that a crown-only motif might make it possible for people with more real world cash to make more in-game cash? I feel like that's a pretty valid concern.
    alexkdd99 wrote: »
People should not be concerned with their monetization strategy, they are not on the payroll.
    * spits coffee * WAT? We are the ones paying said payroll, we have every right to be concerned with how we are being asked to spend money here. We are the freaking customers!
    alexkdd99 wrote: »
But it is also not your responsibility to tell them how they can and can not make money.
As I already said once in this thread, we are on the forum for this game and it was put here specifically so that we could discuss the game amongst ourselves and with the devs. Debating the merits of what they offer us for sale and how they do it could be considered one of the major reasons this forum exists.

Yeah, i really don't like the way it it is going to work. Crown store exclusive motifs are bad enough in my opinion, but the fact that you can re sell a part of a crown store exclusive is really worrysome to me.

Yeah. This is really just a seriously low blow to crafters if true. Buy this expensive motif, but jokes on you, since you can change the look of dropped gear you'll be greatly limited on set choices.

well while it seems interesting that it can be deconstructed and the Grimstone traded to other players, but why would a player need a Grimstone, if he can not learn the motif from the game drops  ?

And even if it would be possible somehow to learn the motif appart from buying it in crown strore, can you imagine how high would be the price of these stones in the guildstore  ?

Let's wait for someone to make an official post here with details first.

However, it does seem to be the start of crown-only motifs and mimic stones to craft.

@DocFrost72 It's how they always give answers. You know, like how they never "promised" to not release RNG boxes etc. Keeps it so that if they DO decide at a later date to add it into game... they never said they wouldn't.

If they're planning to make it available in-game at some point in the future, they really really need to make that clear before the motif shows up in the crown store. People should know going into things that their options are either buy it now for real money or be patient and get it later in-game. Not be passively manipulated into buying the motif for real money because they think this is their only chance to obtain it.

Of course, getting people to spend real money on it now is probably more beneficial to their pockets...

Well let see the ones that want it and need it "now" will pay to have it and then next year comes around it may be a drop "kinda like the other items" and there will be a knew motiff to take its place......I see it trending

The Grim Harlequin is going to be exclusive to the Crown Store. However, purchasing the Grim Harlequin will net you 54 Mimic Stones, which you can use to craft gear (including the Grim Harlequin). You can use this crafted gear to deconstruct and have a chance to get a Grinstone - the Grim Harlequin style item. All this can be traded, too, if you wish.

Yep, as it seems i dont have to admit i was wrong.

This is the beginning of the end for master Crafters all around tamriel. It was a good 2 year run but now it seems crafters will have to choose between buying stuff they like from the crown store or buy stuff they need in game to be competitive in their craft.
Such a low move on Zos part. Plus the fact that you can only craft it with mimic stones is a sad excuse to make us buy them.

I hope crafters are smarter than that and avoid this like the plague but since people will want to make money out of it they will buy it like sheep. Its all a matter of psychology. There will always be the marketing team targeting those fools. Well i dont intend to be one of those this time around im sorry.

See, as a crafter myself, I'm very torn on this. On the one hand, I really want to tell ZOS to buzz off with the idea of a crown store exclusive motif. On the other hand though... it would bother me tremendously to see a style on the UI that I can't craft because I was too stubborn to pay for enough crowns (That I can sparingly afford) to buy the motif and be able to make it for my friends. I don't know what to do between those two thoughts.

I'm skipping it, but my reasons may not work for you: collecting Motifs gives me a reason to play the game. Press button -> get Motif does not fulfill that purpose; as a rule I don't even buy Motifs with in-game gold, I'm certainly not going to do it with real money. I'll save my Crowns for DLCs after I cancel my sub.

I don't have a problem with motifs being available for purchase in the crown store. Heck, I even bought one once when I decided that I was never going to grind for it and I happened to be sitting on a lot of crowns.

I do have a problem with motifs being available exclusively in the crown store though. A couple of the first "new" motifs to be added to the game after launch (ie. ones that weren't there at launch) weren't very well designed in terms of how you acquired pages, but for the most part the ones that have come out since have been a great model because they encourage people to actually play the game and stay interested. It's something that helps make repeatable content rewarding. When repeatable content is rewarding, players are more likely to stick around.

If motifs that are available in-game are also available in the crown store, then that's kind of the best of both worlds from a sales perspective, because on the one hand you have players staying and playing more to get the motifs. On the other hand players who don't want to grind out the motifs and don't have the gold to buy them all from guild stores have the option of buying them outright on the crown store.

If motifs are only available on the crown store, however, you're only catering to people who are willing to buy them outright for real money. You're not giving people who wouldn't buy them any incentive to keep playing. Sure, you could say that there's lots of other content to keep them interested, and that's true. But different content appeals to different people for different reasons. Why limit things and not take the opportunity to put something else in the game that will keep some players interested and playing longer?

Anyway, I don't consider this to be a big deal like crown crates are, I just consider this to be a dumb and counter-productive decision.

I can respect that, props to you for having the dedication to farm everything yourself instead of buying chapters even for gold!

Unfortunately for me I can be a bit impatient at times when it comes to Motif, the Draugr motif is the first one they've released so far that I've been farming myself instead of buying the rest after I have half already, and that's mostly just because of the high price they're going for at the moment. Glass I knew right away I wouldn't have the patience for and I ended up buying it off the crown store. Akaviri still gives me nightmares with how much gold I had to spend to get that full motif...
