You told us this game wouldnt use Hero Engine, that you just used it for conceptual work in the beginning, and that you wrote your very own engine...You lied to us! :(

I wanted to re-install the game completly and get this thrown right into my face "Powered by Hero Engine", then a Havok logo right after...What the ***??

This explains why this games loading times is as long as they are, and it also explains why you cannot fix the bugs, you need to rely on a third party company to fix bugs for you wich you then use to create your patches...This game is beyond fixing now, I'm 100% certain that you can never fix the bugs because you have zero control over the game.
It also explains why you keep on pushing patches with tons of bugs that have been reported for weeks, sometimes even months on PTS.

I have zero trust left for Zenimax and Bethesda now, good luck with your future releases wich I will not be a part of anymore.

Sincerly
A deeply insulted fan

Edit 2014-06-02:

Here's my findings on this. It's not like they would just throw away that amount of money, Idea Fabrik getting a share of the revenue wich is bound by contract.

This is from when Zenimax signed the license for the engine.

And this is from 2014. Notice the little logo on the bottom of the first page?:)

The tiny text at the bottom is also interesting, Hero Cloud contains SpeedTree, coincidence?
RAD Gametools wich consists of Bink Video and Granny Animation is also included in Hero Cloud.

The game used hero engine for a development prototype. It has not used hero engine since release.

And since they used the Hero engine in it's initial development, they have to include it in the credits. Nuff said.

@Sharee is correct. OP doesn't have the full story, far from it.

People will tell you it doesn't use Hero Engine because the devs said so. What the devs said is they used a "custom" engine. Funnily enough SWTOR does too - it's a custom Hero Engine with code added in on top. Sounds very tinfoil hat I know, but it's very common for this kind of wordplay to occur in marketing.

I thought they used a "Custom Hero Engine". IDK for sure.

, Sas I understand it the hero engine was done for some early developmental world building, but the actual in game engine is something differant.

even if they DO use Hero, the bum rap that engine has is mostly from SWTOR, which basicly used an alpha of the engine to produce the game.

well that and the devs for Bioware are quick to blame the engine for stuff they proably just don't want to do

The moment you take one engine and write your own code to change it, it becomes your engine. For all intensive purposes it is the Hero Engine in reality but ZOS essentially modded the engine into their own.

Whether this game uses some part of Hero engine or not, pretty sure there is an internal team that fixes bugs. Many have been fixed since launch.

    . For all intensive purposes

I'll just ignore the such amount of misinformation that the op brought up since my comrades already corrected it.

Tho, ESO engine is definetely needs a rework, I don't know if this is viable, but look at the asian mmorpgs, they have much more features than ESO because their engine actually allows it: dinamic sea and ships, underwater combat and exploration, capes etc etc etc.

You licensed HeroEngine a long time ago. What role did the Hero Engine play in the development of ESO?

"We started ZeniMax Online from scratch, with no employees and no technology. We had to build everything ourselves. It takes a long time to write game engines, especially MMO engines, which are inherently more complicated than typical single-player ones. So, we decided to license the HeroEngine to give us a headstart. It was a useful tool for us to use to prototype areas and game design concepts, and it provided us the ability to get art into the game that was visible, so we could work on the game’s art style. Our plan is for ESO to be a world class MMO, with the most advanced social features found in any MMO to date – so while we were prototyping the game on HeroEngine, we were simultaneously developing our own client, server, and messaging layer that were specifically designed with ESO in mind. Think of HeroEngine as a whiteboard for us – a great tool to get some ideas in the game and start looking at them while the production engine was in development."

Now whether or not you like the client they developed is a different matter. But you can no longer deny that they did in fact make their own client.

Interesting logic. By this logic, we can assume that ESO does not use Hero because the game is not science fiction.

I am totally confused now.

Notice the two games right above ESO? Were you crying about them on their forums? Nope.

    ES: Oblivion "Leeetz!"

ES: Skyrim "When's Skyrim 2 coming out?"

Now I'm gonna gloss over that they used Hero Engine as conceptual design

Yeah, It's extremely misleading when you see Powered by Hero Engine in front of SWTOR and ESO... I mean, SWTOR is basically World of Starwars whereas ESO plays like Skyrim and Oblivion... Hrmmmmmm. What conclusions can we draw from this?

Did the OP bother to find out what "Acapela Group" is? Did he bother to find out that, rather than the game engine that powers the game play of TESO, Acapela Group is a software firm that specialises in converting text to a speech files? Those would be those rather robotic sounding NPCs we all heard when we were in beta, robotic sounding NPCs that have since been replaced by actual voice-acted NPCs.

But what am I saying? Of course the OP bothered to find out what the Acapela Group is.

I won't mention that RAD Gametools is a completely separate and wholly independent company from (and, in fact, has no connection whatsoever to) Hero Engine and is used exclusively for video sequences, nor will I mention that SpeedTree is also completely independent and is partnered with Havok (not Hero Engine). Because pointing those out would just be rude.
