✭✭I agree that it should be for sale in the Crown Store, since glass was put up for sale, and not long after it was introduced to the game. And, too be honest, earning glass the in-game way is much more time-consuming, as there is a LOT of RNG involved.
The problem with Akaviri is that the only way to earn it is by spending MILLIONS of AP, which then means that people who have extra AP and want to make some gold, put up the pages for sale at insane prices. Those that have posted here saying that you should EARN it by PVPing probably don't have any problem with someone buying it from another player - they haven't really earned it then, either, but who cares, since the PVPers get insane amounts of gold from it.
Do you know how long it takes to earn Millions of AP? It takes quite a long time. The value of the motif is usually determined by the investment it takes to get it. Now I agree with you that the price is insane. But not the gold price. The AP price is insane.
No, I don't know how long since I don't PVP, so I agree that using the word "insane" when referring to the gold price is an exaggeration.
A few months ago, I decided to look up how much AP it cost for each page - A LOT! - so I then understood that purchasing extra to sell beyond what was spent to get the full motif in the first place was worth a fair bit of gold. But, it wasn't until I had built up enough of my own gold that I decided I could afford to start buying these pages. I decided that 50K average was what I was willing to pay, and I was able to average that, so I've spent $650K so far (haven't found Axes yet), and will end up spending $700K, which is over half what I had saved up as a casual solo player.
That is a LOT of gold for me, but I was willing to pay it largely because I did some research to understand the pricing and did some comparison shopping to find good deals. Also, I wanted to support other players, if I could, rather than spending real money in the Crown Store. And, I think that there are others who would be willing to do so if the prices were lower. The only way that would be reasonable for those selling the pages is if they cost less AP. But, that wouldn't be fair to those who spent the full AP price, and thus my suggestion of charging less AP for pages already learned so they can sell them to other players at lower prices.
However, I have a feeling that this motif will end up in the Crown Store, since they don't want to pass up an opportunity for sales. And, it would seem that there are many who would be willing to pay real money rather than lots of in-game gold. I was one of them initially, and I still think it should be an option in the Crown Store, but I chose to wait for prices to come down a little and build up my savings so I could buy them in-game. I didn't earn them by PVPing, but I do feel I earned them by finding ways to make gold and saving up for it.
If this does come to the Crown Store, which I think it will, I worry that in-game sales will dry up. Not because everyone will spend the $50 on this motif (that's still a lot of cash for many players), but because players will expect the in-game price to drop in response. However, unless the AP cost is lowered, I don't know how many PVPers will be wanting to spend their AP to sell the pages for significantly less gold. Especially since there is now the option to spend AP on gear sets.2 -

Well...I feel your pain. I have slowly been purchasing the motifs, even though I have the AP to buy them all. Yesterday, a guildie wanted 40 dreugh wax so I traded it to him for a couple of the motifs. He was happy. I was happy. And now I have just 5 left to get. And I'll probably just spend my AP to finish it an be done with it.
I don't think it's unreasonable to lower the price of the motif. In reality, noone wants to pay 50-100k gold for a page. Lowering the cost of it for AP would actually increase sales in my opinion. It really should be a third of the price. Maybe around 15k - 30k. I think that would be acceptable.

✭I'd be more then willing to spend crown on the Akaviri Motif since PvP is pretty much unplayable, and revolves around getting insta killed by "5 abilitiy one second macro kiddies". And yes it is just a cosmetic so I don't see the problem either. Either that or they can make the motifs drop in some PvE content as well. It'll be a fair way for ZOS to make extra cash on the side as well.

I tried to tell them to put it on the Crown store becasue it was only fair, but alas, they just wanted my gold.

I just want my crafting motif which has no effect on my stats without having to pvp. I HATE pvp and I've tried it on multiple classes with friends who pvp. I will never be able to get enough ap to buy it myself and it seems to only rarely show up in guild stores since they added the sets for purchase.1 -

I'd honestly say if people have to be forced to do PvP to get the motif then ZOS should also force people to "WORK FOR IT" by doing the vet dungeons. Difference is with all of the cheats, macros, lag, and Loading Screen Boss that'll kill you without giving you a chance to fight back is silly and sad that something so cosmetic is gated by.2 -

Farm whatever is currently in high demand in the game (flowers, SO set items, crafting mats, motifs, whatever). Sell them in guild stores. You'll need about 800K gold. That can be done in a month at a casual pace.
Ask your PvP friends to buy the pages for you in AP and pay them in gold. If they don't want to or don't have enough AP, they'll certainly be able to put you in contact with someone who does. Heavy PvPers sit on millions of AP and have nothing to do with it, while they usually sorely lack gold.

I don't care if the book is sold in crowns or not. I strongly disagree with people who shout "WORK FOR IT". It's a game after all. But because it is a game and because it is a social game, I always prefer solutions that involve using ingame systems and contact with other people. It's nicer than crown store. Game is fun. But the crown store is fun. Less grinding for convince items more time grinding other needed items, or more time just have some casual fun in the game. Plus you get to help support ZOS at the same time so people who don't want to spend money in games don't have to. I made this thread to address the unfairness of putting Glass and Xivkyn in the shop, and not Akaviri, when Glass was a lot more expensive than Akaviri, and came out at the same time. The latter in a legitimate part of the gameplay and very easy to earn and pile up, the former doesn't grow on trees, it's hard to earn and doesn't really belong to the gameplay.
What imho is unfair is a feature being accessible through crowns or via subs and not available ingame for gold at all. Not the other way around.
But obviously... ymmv.
