When Is Loot generated before or after kill?

What I mean is when I loot a boss or monster is the loot predetermined when I engage the mob or when I loot the corpse?

It's called "lazy evaluation": don't burn CPU cycles or use up memory for storing values on calculations that aren't needed yet, if at all.I'm going with when the kill happens

There is a loot table attached to every type of mob. On the death of a particular mob of any kind, one or more random values are determined, which are then used as an indices on the mob type's loot table. The items that correspond to that roll(s) are then instanced ("created") and put into the dead mob's loot "container". Any items that are not looted by the player are destroyed when the dead mob is despawend.
