[Suggestion] Custom Music

Hello, I have an adorable suggestion down here, I believe.

The Elder Scrolls Online has an awesome soundtrack, but after playing for some time I realize that I start starving for more music. Of course I could just turn off the ingame music and start using my music player, but there is a tiny little problem with that solution. My music player will just play some linear or shuffled playlist without any awareness of the ingame situation.

So here goes my suggestion:

1. Add somewhere under the system user directory an ESO music folder with three subdirectories inside - common, combat, epic (or whichever names you would prefer to give them). I can use these directories to place some thematic music inside of them. "Common" music plays normally when you travel or nothing actually happens, "combat" music is for most combat situations and "epic" is usually played for some epic boss fights.

2. Add an option into "Audio" settings menu to switch between three possible playback modes: ESO default music only, custom music only, or play both. ESO music would be the default value I assume.

Hope someone would second this. Thanks for your time!

One thing I really liked about star trek online was that they had an in game music player that would link to windows media player or iTunes and let you navigate tracks while playing.

I've seen a lot of games that have this available but all of them are SP games, not MMO's. In my BTech & CS:S days, I had a playlist cranking while I was bobbin', weavin' and killin'. The Sims3 (and I think Sims4 as well) they have a custom music file you can put .mp3's in then play those songs in the game stereos on shuffle. A custom music file with subfolders for .mp3 files I would think would work. :)

I would have loved to have "Hells Bells" by AC/DC or "For Whom the Bell Tolls" by Metallica playing on the final battle with Malog Bal. B)

To the OP: definitely yes, I'd love to add custom music, but I never let it run in the background because it wouldn't "know" the situation in the game.
If this would work someday to add more music, I'd put many pieces of the Skyrim soundtrack in the folder :)

Yes, this is almost exactly the same thing I want to do. Firstly I would play Morrowind music only, then I would play both ESO and Morrowind tracks, then I would add some Oblivion to the mix, and the last one would be Skyrim.

P.S. And if that won't be enough, I would add beautiful music from Space Rangers. :stuck_out_tongue:

Would love to be able to rip my soundtracks from earlier Elder Scrolls games into a folder to listen to in ESO with appropriate triggers.

Failing that, would at least love to see ESO get some more diverse and interesting combat music themes added in.

For one I believe this is a waste of resources.

But even then I also believe that there are some legal issues with that and illegal music.

I believe there are no legal issues there, cause this music is played locally at player's machine.

If there were legal issues, Windows Media Player or jetAudio would be not existing.

GTA: Vice City had this option for the car radio on the PC version. No legal issues as it's personal use and not shared with others.

Not sure what were you talking about... Two Steps From Hell is something you might want to look into.

Forgot to mention that the ingame music's volume is slightly decreased during conversations with NPCs. This is another feature not supported by third party music player.

I would like to be able to change the custom music on the main menu, or loading screens. It's been a pain by now to have to listen to the same music for 2 years when opening the game. Otherwise with music it's fine, if I want to listen to something I can just turn the music off and listen to my own.
So, I would like to add custom music, or for different music to play, in the menu. Especially with loading times still taking up such a long time.

This sounds like a great idea.I use one file for my custom music, gathered from places online. But,as was mentioned,my PC doesnt know which music for what is going on.So,while I am fishing,I get songs of strident music when I should get lay back soft music.

I grew tired of ESO music and I mostly set it to "off".

    I agree!
Two steps from hell is awesome and I do listen to it when the ESO music setting is set to off and there is an epic battle going on.
Remember: you can always listen to youtube even while playing ESO.
The windowed fullscreen allows it(without crashing).
