on my 2012 mbp yes... on my new imac 4k 27 inch I download the installer and it just crashes as soon as I click the installer

Thanks. That gets the installer open, I click ok to select english and it shows a loading bar. When the loading bar is done in my dock I see two ESO icons. One that says ESO installer (bouncing) and another that says java. They then both disappear0 -

Just a guess, from my experience OS X can be a bit picky if you create new folders under the Applications folder. i.e. Games, Utilities, Internet etc. If this is the case then the permissions may need to be changed on those folders to reflect the user currently logged in or a user with full access rights.
This can be accomplished by going to the Applications folder, right clicking the sub folder you want to change, get info, then change the owner and group and "apply to all sub folders" or words to similar effect. You might also want to check the permissions on the ESO folder under Documents, as this can affect game settings not saving.
As I said, just a guess.....
