Sorcerer Twilight Summons...

So with the recent patch update, ZOS decided to alter what was an already useless summon, and make it even more useless (in my case, not to say the same is for others) and I am trying to understand why...

Here's the patch notes, I have bolded the changes that have made this worthless for me, not sure how many actually bother going through entire patch notes to figure this out...
Summon Twilight Matriarch (Summon Winged Twilight morph):
  • This pet’s special ability will now cause it to heal itself and up to 2 friendly targets for 20% of your maximum Magicka.
  • This pet no longer siphons her health to you if you fall below 35% Health, due to the active ability changes for Summon Winged Twilight described below.
Summon Winged Twilight:
  • This ability and its morphs are no longer toggle abilities; instead, they are now normal casted abilities. The first activation will summon your pet, and when morphed, the second activation will cast the pet’s special ability.
  • Note that the pet will still be desummoned if you switch ability bars without slotting it.
  • Decreased the cost to summon a pet from this ability and its morphs by 50%.
  • Increased the cast time to summon the pet to 1.5 seconds from 1.3 seconds.
  • The pet summoned by this ability and its morphs now heals itself for 3% of its maximum Health every two seconds.

So the only reason I ever kept STM was because of that emergency heal for when you don't have a healer or you're doing anything solo. It worked well and could save you from many situations... Now it seems this change is geared more towards PvE, having your pet heal itself which is a nice feature but cannot compare to what was once had...

And now we also have to get used to tapping the summon key again to ACTIVATE the ability??? How many people have time to micro-manage that?

I am all for changes if they are reasonable and there's a discussion behind it, but I can't for the life of me figure out why they would remove that low-HP heal which could only ever occur every 30 seconds which is NOT OP at all...

On the plus side, at least I get a free ability slot. On the downside, I lose a really great utility.

Have you actually tried using the skill yet? It seems like you have not. This pet now puts out GIGANTIC HEALS on TWO TARGETS and ITSELF. I was getting nearly 20k crits on myself with the heal.

This is a HUGE UPGRADE in every way.

OP, they basically took away breath of life from templars and gave it to sorcs who didn't even need it...

Both are huge changes for the better. The one that heals, that's a huge heal. The other one, higher damage during the front half of the fight is great. I cannot think of anything that does more damage early in the fight vs the many executed in the game that increase damag to low health.

    Win win.

It's a summon, who relies on a summon when you're pure DPS and it takes up a valuable slot? The only reason I had it there was for a set and forget "last wind". If I want heals I can easily invest in them, we have amazing AoE and single-target heals...

May be an upgrade for some, the only thing that bothers me is that the ability now has to be MANUALLY ACTIVATED. I can just imagine the "how hard can it be to push a button" responses, but I'm not going to justify if no one else can understand how this update has ruined that extremely useful summon.

Yes, for PvE this is brilliant, yay, more heals, this time on a summon!! :dizzy: Because you truly need heals on a DPS sorcerer in PvE, solo. Because there is never a hybrid healer if not a dedicated healer in groups. :pensive:

You have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. Go launch the game and build your character correctly.

I haven't tried this out myself yet; did I read right that the second time you hit the hot key to summon it that it activates it's special ability? I'm presuming hitting it again and again after that will retrigger the effect (after cool-down); is that right?

Maybe stop bashing people and learn the correct way to proc CS and crank out that DPS. If you're healing you're doing it wrong. That was my safety net, it wasn't always needed, its' gone, it is what it is, I'll deal with it.

Yes, hitting the summon key again will activate its special ability. I haven't tested as it doesn't appeal to me anymore, but I can hope that the timer for the ability isn't linked to the re-summon in-case it gets killed. And it would be really silly that subsequent presses unsummon it. :P

I believe you have to cancel it from your character page or some such. But presumably there will be a global hotkey to unsummon your summons.

You guys really need to spend some time with the new summoned pets before you complain too much. They ARE improved in my opinion, but they still have problems.

There is only a specific ability of a specific summon that I am referring to... When you're a GC Sorcerer, focusing on DPS, you don't bother with your own heals, at least I don't. So sometimes have TM to proc that heal as a safety net was EXTREMELY useful, saves having to pop a pot and makes for some nice Spell Symmetry usage (Equilibrium morph) and due to the restriction TM was a perfect candidate.

We all have our own strategies, sad to see this one (clearly underrated, or not as it is now removed?) gone.

All I wanted was an explanation as to WHY the change, that's all. They could have kept the condition heal as a separate morph or integrate it...

The new pets are great on my Stam Sorc lol, I run a bow on one bar and hardly even need to get near a mob, pets keep them busy while i destroy them from afar... sweet. The heals are nice too but dont have a lot of magicia so cant Spam heal.

I also miss the auto-emergency-heal .... I suck at popping buttons here and there, and basically only manage to use about three of my five options on any bar (effectively).

I wish that the emergency heal had been kept as one morph option.
Tenesi Faryon of Telvanni - Dunmer Sorceress who deliberately sought sacrifice into Cold Harbor to rescue her beloved.
Hisa Ni Caemaire - Altmer Sorceress, member of the Order Draconis and Adept of the House of Dibella.
Broken Branch Toothmaul - goblin (for my goblin characters, I use either orsimer or bosmer templates) Templar, member of the Order Draconis and persistently unskilled pickpocket
Mol gro Durga - Orsimer Socerer/Battlemage who died the first time when the Nibenay Valley chapterhouse of the Order Draconis was destroyed, then went back to Cold Harbor to rescue his second/partner who was still captive. He overestimated his resistance to the hopelessness of Oblivion, about to give up, and looked up to see the golden glow of atherius surrounding a beautiful young woman who extended her hand to him and said "I can help you". He carried Fianna Kingsley out of Cold Harbor on his shoulder. He carried Alvard Stower under one arm. He also irritated the Prophet who had intended the portal for only Mol and Lyris.
    ***
Order Draconis - well c'mon there has to be some explanation for all those dragon tattoos.
House of Dibella - If you have ever seen or read "Memoirs of a Geisha" that's just the beginning...
Nibenay Valley Chapterhouse - Where now stands only desolate ground and a dolmen there once was a thriving community supporting one of the major chapterhouses of the Order Draconis

I'm glad the twilight no longer has to kill itself on a channeled heal that has a heavy cooldown. Sorry for the loss of the emergency heal (one that always ended early for me since I would walk during combat and get out of the pets range apparently), and for the loss of the equilibrium synergy, but the heal is significantly more powerful and usable now.

So I can now sorc heal and still achieve 20k+ dps (single), this has made pledges even more autopilot then they previously were so definitely a buff.
