Maintenance for the week of September 8:
• PC/Mac: No maintenance – September 8
• PC/Mac: EU megaserver for maintenance – September 9, 22:00 UTC (6:00PM EDT) - September 10, 16:00 UTC (12:00PM EDT) https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/682784

VERY NICE ZOS at prime time on FRIDAY - couple hours of maintanance ... yes! way to go! :D

I made a post the other day because maintenance is always scheduled during my game time when I wake up in the morning (3am). So I come home early on Friday to play... server down. Not sure whether to laugh or cry. Probably both.
These things happen I guess. Would rather a server restart than crappy performance.

**** 5 minute loading screens, I would have stopped playing the game. I get annoyed enough with my ~1min loading screens.

@ZOS_GinaBruno as you're active oh this thread, can you confirm that the long loading screens are a known issue and you're working on a fix, or are they here to stay? There doesn't seem to be any info regarding this.

It is a known issue, and we've been investigating. We did implement a small fix in Monday's patch that should have helped begin to decrease the length from when IC was first published.

Okay, didn't notice any change personally, but thanks for letting us know you're working on it.
I noticed a bit of a difference. Load screens are still long, but I haven't had any last over 5 minutes since last week (last week I was experiencing 5-7 minute load screens on a semi-regular basis).

That's about on par from what we're seeing as well. Is anyone still getting actual 5+ minute loading screens?

I'm not getting +5 minute loading screens, but they are still a lot longer than they were before the IC patch, about 2 to 3 minutes for me

To be clear, this is not a patch - just a server reboot. And we're not expecting any rollbacks.

    @ZOS_GinaBruno
Any chance the NA server is next?

    Thanks.

Nope, this only affected the EU megaserver. NA will not be taken offline.

@ZOS_GinaBruno please restart NA server for this comment. And please, take your time bringing it back up when you do.

Its clear the Hamsters in Europe are not up to the standards of the Hamsters in NA. So, they imported some Hamsters from the US and are currently getting them on their wheels and getting some training. Once they get them sorted, the servers will come back up.

I have had one 30 minute loading screen...no joke...I ended up watching a full 30 minute episode online came back and it was still on a load screen...it was not bandwidth related, the show was pre-loaded...I always seem to have longer load screens in Rivenspire(Shornhelm) DC. also I am curious as to what is meant by "back end" that is somewhat of a blanket statement/catch all cover my ass :) I assume hardware and not a subsystem of software...I know it was already stated that the servers are being restarted...just curious. and to restate the obvious loading screens are still at least twice as long as they used to be regardless of the second patch.

Yup for some reason Rivenspire takes super long to load. I have started avoiding that area completley now.

Better during our work day than tonight.. Come, on, folks.

Edit: By "our" I mean my narrow world view. Aware of my fault made here, and apologies.

At least, for a lot of us, this is during our work day, and it is for majority of us, before the weekend really kicks off.

It's not as easy as that, for all we know it could have been a serious issue that if it hadn't been restarted immediately may have cause server crashes that could damage the database and lose us hours or days of gameplay. For example some years ago in Dark Age of Camelot there was a server issue and they delayed restart because of it happening in prime time, not only did we have hours of horrible lag but eventually the server crashed, wiping the database meaning they had to install the last backup which was three weeks old, people lost weeks of work and even whole characters that could not be restored.

So while ideally it would be great to have more notice, sometimes it just can't happen.
And I'll bet the people moaning about them daring to take the server offline immediately to fix an unexpected server-side issue would probably be totally fine with it if they delayed fixing it and this was the result, right?

It goes to show that there are some people who will complain about literally anything and everything.

Backend usually means hardware or the operating system on the hardware, my guess based on it being a restart would be that one of the clusters glitched and became desynchronized from the rest causing issues and they've restarted them to bring them back into sync.

I have had another issue where if you go into a loading screen, and alt tab out, if you dont return sharpish the game will become non-responsive, You can tell if this has happened because the logo in the bottom right stops spinning completely. At ths point all you can do is re-boot the game. This issue never happens if i dont alt-tab out of a loading screen though. Roughly my loading screens last at worst, 1m 30s. But they use to only last 15-20 seconds.

I was booted to password screen at about 3:50BST (its now 5:42 BST) and trying to log back in told me words along the lines of it was unable to connect due to my lack of internet.

Rebooted PC and router (although could access everything else fine), still problems, walked the dogs for an hour, came back to find servers were offline, so it looks like it wasn't just me, and Zenimax had no choice but do it now,
