The Dark Brotherhood: I don't want to be a murderer

I'm preparing one character to be an assassin for when Dark Brotherhood starts ... but my other toons are going to have nothing to do with them.

You can Role Play however you want your characters to be but you can't complain about Dark Brotherhood if you don't want to be a murderer ... be grateful you are not their target.
Everyone knows the phenomenon of trying to hold your breath underwater - how at first it's alright and you can handle it, and then as it gets closer and closer to the time when you must breathe, how urgent the need becomes, the lust and the hunger to breathe. And then the panic sets in when you begin to think that you won't be able to breathe - and finally, when you take in air and the anxiety subsides...that's what it's like to be a vampire and need blood.

Its the dark brotherhood. All they do is kill things. Its what makes their guild attractive.

It would be an abomination to the lore to "let people live" after the night mother demands a debt be paid. You are not a mere bandit going door to door to rough people up, or to "scare" somebody. You are an assassin, and killing is what you do.

I'd like to see this extend to pvp as well. Having a dark brotherhood message station where a player gets marked with a bounty, and when you kill him you get cash.

Urhmm, yeah if you roleplay someone who doesn't kill innocent people, I hope you have a fun time. Because that bandit you just ran past, just noticed an innocent man and murdered him. Surely that was your fault, if you had stopped him, he wouldn't have killed that poor innocent person.

I am part of the fighter's guild.... yet a werewolf
Part of the mage's guild..... yet not a mage
A hand of Almalexia..... yet have entertained/helped many daedric princes
A slayer of Dominion/Covenant armies.... yet have helped out a few people from each faction
The last three of these things are probably something that most Ebonhart pact members have done, yet some still say that they stay true to character. How can this be right when you are contradicting yourself?

No one are required to use any of the NPC player guilds. We choose too.
In fact, there should be some kind of mechanism that you can choose any NPC guild, but only one at the time. Like Vampire, Werewolf or normal. B)

My Kajiit Pact "Monk" cant wait to meet the Dark Brotherhood! This one will get so much shinies!

I have been thinking the same thing. Werewolf since August. The fighter guild should attack me on site really.

No. There is currently no timeframe for these.

I'm probably not going to be saying much different than other people in this thread have said, but here's my opinion anyway.

I understand your moral quandary, OP.

While I always play the Dark Brotherhood/Morag Tong in my Elder Scrolls games, I can understand why people want to run "Lawful Good" characters.

And while I understand the frustration of watching people have fun in content that you are skipping because it goes against your moral compass; killing is what the Dark Brotherhood does. While you may want to experience any and all new content for ESO, they're killers. That's it.

When you ask if we will "be forced to murder", the simple answer is: "Yes". It's even in the motto that Vicente Valtieri always mentioned; "Sithis demands blood, and blood must be paid."

It's the same thing with the Thieves Guild. They're thieves. They steal, breaking & entering, ransom thefts, etc. That's why they're in the Guild that they're in, so they can perform those acts and be amongst like-minded individuals.

So while you may very well feel as if you are missing out on new content, think about it. Are you really missing out on anything if the whole point to those two Guilds, the very acts and mindset that they are each founded upon, is abhorrent to how you play your characters?

The Dark Brotherhood kills. A lot. And you cannot stop them once they take a contract.
The Thieves Guild steals. Everything. Even the stuff that's nailed down...

That's the entirety of what those two Guilds are entirely about. So if you want to experience that content, if you want to follow through those entire Guild Quest-lines, then you have to perform actions that fit within the psyche of those Guilds.

Like someone else said, if you were in the Dark Brotherhood and every contract gave you the option to let the target live, eventually the Dark Brotherhood's leadership would come looking for you so that you guys could "talk". Because really, what good is an Assassin that won't kill?

when is the DB and Thieves Guilds coming to PS4 can't wait to serve the night mother again. HAIL SITHIS!

I had a Divine Crusader in Oblivion who was the Listener prior to his redemption. The Gods forgive.

Same with me. I didn't even complete understand the fame and infamy system in the game. I actually completed the entire thieves and brotherhood quest lines before the Devine crusader. It wiped out all my infamy but still had everything to show for it. Was awesome!! Lmao

It depends on what you value more- performance or rp. I am sure that DB doc will add another skill tree and I guess it will scale from.. Murders

Nobody will be forcing you to kill NPCs if you dont want to. The only thing you are forced in this game- is to complete the main quest. Apart from that, you are free to do whatever and whenever you want

I'd be ok with 2 possible storylines/progressions for the DB content... One if you side with the DB, and one for a new anti-Db Justice "league".

DB could get reoccurring contract murders, with Justice getting prevent murder, hunt/bounty killers. Separate skill lines depending on your choices.

Something similar for the THEIVES GUILD when it's introduced (ie. police&thieves).

The great thing about The Elder Scrolls. It's diverse with a ton of different things to do. If your roleplaying your character you can't expect all content to be suited to the role you've chosen.

There may be an alternative to murder but that would require splitting the content for a minority that don't want to play it based on their role play decisions.

    Hail Sithis!
Yeah I used to live in Skyrim. Then I took an arrow to the knee.

A full pacifist in a game is impossible. You will always kill bad guys. The core of the dark brotherhood lessons is that good and right is not a clear path. Take Abnur Tharn. He is not good nor bad, but a bit in between. the philosophy behind the dark brotherhood is that one who is able to perform the dark ritual, has such a strong feeling that someone has to die, that person deserves to die anyways. I could really imagine that children in Tamriel has tried to perform the black ritual just for fun and the thrill with no effect at all, cause they didn't really mean to kill someone (obviously Aventus Aretino doesn't count for that, he really did want Grelod the Kind to be killed and for good reasons to be honest).

Bad Guys is pretty subjective. I'm sure the 7th Legion Imperials I wiped out in the DC quest line didn't think they were bad. They were fighting to for ground now that Cyrodil is a mess. Same thing when you fight the Reachmen. Multiple NPC's even admit that the land was originally controlled by the Reachmen before the Bretons came in and pushed them out. Are they bad because they want their homeland back?
