Question: How do you guys text chat on a console, anyway? On screen keyboard sort of thing?
Do you just plug a keyboard into the sucker?
If so, its a shame that it would be so easy to allow you guys and gals to text chat, but that ZOS, for most likely legal reasons (root problem: people can't be trusted with such freedom), you guys are getting shafted.

Millions and millions of players on the PS2 , PS3 and PS4 have been using text chat for over a decade on multiple mmorpg's. ESO is the extreme exception to the rule not having it. I have not looked at many reviews of the console launch and almost every single one rates it as a negative to not have text chat and that it hampers communication. And yes you can just plug in a keyboard or use your controller or use a Bluetooth keyboard from your couch if that's what you want to do.

Each console handles this in its own ways.
Excluding Ps4 if on Cbox One if the keyboard is plugged in prior to turning on the console then a game or app must also be developed to utilize the keyboard.
By default only the letters n numbers work minus the number pad and all function keys, shift and enter.
As seen on Warframe and Neverwinter when the keyboard is plugged in prior to turning on the console the enter key prompts the text box and you type. Problem is linking and replying or highlighting, quote, etc have convoluted commands and controller+keyboard requirements cause there is no mouse support or a cursor.
What seems practical ends up with new challenges for some.
To each its own but I'd rather not have it on Xbox one.
It's on PC and works great there

Those are minor challenges when in comparison to not havING a chat at all. I would rather have th k see minor inconveniences and be able to group up, trade, and talk with people all around, than not have it and deal with the garbage we currently have.
The pros outweigh the cons immensely.
You do know that voice chat is proximity based? There is no LFG voice chat or trade voice chat, a "more quit zone" also has less people to sell to and less potential group members
See thats the issue with voice chat only, if I were going to go to a "more quiet zone" I would have to leave the place where everyone is at and that would make it so I can't communicate with them.
If there was text chat, I could leave the noise area, or turn off voice chat completely and use the zone text to form groups, sell or buy items and ask for help with quests ect.

Actually a lot of what your commenting as pointed out in another thread is your refusal to adapt
You purchased a game that works the way it's designed.
Either adapt, be innovative or stop complaining. You've even shared many times you're not willing to compromise....bud that's your issue overall.
It's nothing wrong with feedback but at this point you've spent his weeks whining about something that seemingly is not going to change. Oddly what you desire exists on PC.
Sale the console and get a PC...move on or play the game on console as is and be innovative
I honestly can't understand why you didn't return the game of it didn't meet your desires but that's another topic
Nothing annoys me more then the people playing music through the headset...squeakers, trolls and the like have nothing on the crap music I hear in this game. Even if the song was a good one (it never is) it sounds like trash through a console headset.
I don't know if text chat will solve this, there will still be people doing this in area chat and I don't want to do business with someone trying to negotiate through the on screen keyboard with my controller.

These other people are looking to do the same thing as you. It's pretty easy. The only thing to fear is fear itself.

It's not the fact that people are scared, I use voice chat often. It's the fact that it isn't efficient. Sometimes I don't feel like talking over 20 other people just to sell or buy motifs. Also voice chat has a very limited zone to whom you can talk too, text chat would open up entire zones so you could communicate with many more people at once.

ha I tend to avoid doing business when the chatter is constant and crazy like in your vid but I will if I must as off peak hours are more peaceful yet not the best time to buy/sell something. I finally decided that I want to become a werewolf so I spoke up in Elden Root the other night when it was busy and surprisingly it was quick and painless. A player responded, we grouped and he took me to the shrine to bite me without asking anything in return...I gave him 3K for his trouble even though I don't have much money.Lol yup. The loudest person wins in voice chat.

I've done this since day one and my time in towns is more productive because of it. also go into the menu and lower the voice chat volume it helps alot.
