Sorcerer questions..

thomasvaughn21_ESO
So is a medium armor dual wield/bow weapon damage sorc mixed in with some spell damage and abilities ( daedric mines, crit surge, ball of lightening, boundless storm, hardened ward, and maybe crystal fragments ) any good at all in pvp? I get that the light armor straight magicka sorc is the way to go, but that just doesnt appeal to me..

Any input is much appreciated!

thanks!

No. Stamina Sorc is mostly considered the worst possible class/resource combination and hybrid build are inferior to pure magicka/stamina builds right now, to give you an idea.

Well damn.. looks like I shouldve just rolled a nightblade instead of trying to be all fancy.

Any idea if they are going to fix that in later patches or as of now there just leaving it as the clear cut resto/destro staff and light armor?

Well they said in February there would be improvements to stamina sorcerers in teh next update, but from what we know so far, there are not. Just Lightning Form getting a stamina morph (wich is completely unnessecary and unasked for).
    So don't hold your breath.

The biggest problem as a stamina sorcerer is the high cost of the magicka abilities. There used to be some pretty good hybrid builds before 1.6 but without the soft caps they disappeared pretty fast. Since then I only met 1 stamina sorcerer.

If you want to try it, I would recommend to go 2H/bow or 2h/dual wield (flying dagger for ranged attacks). You should be able to keep boundless storm and critsurge up. Especially crit suger synergizes well with crit rush from the 2H skill line (always crits so you get really good heals). If you need more heals you could use rally in addition. Ball of lightning or scattered shot (bow) could be used to create distance for crit Rush.

Hardened ward only scales of max magicka, so it will be pretty useless. You won't cast enough spells to proc CF often and it won't hit hard, so you better use wrecking blow. If you planned on using the mines as root, you could try bombard from the bow line as alternative.

Overall it is a bit tricky to manage your resources, but you can make it work.

Yeah forget that combination in PVP, you will get destroyed and frustrated, you better re roll if that's the style you want to play or respec to magika sorc and pwn the battlefield.

Is the healing from critical surge any good in pvp? Or are the people who know what they are doing just resist most criticals ending up in me getting little to no heals and hitting like a wet noodle?

The idea that appealed to me to make this was the crit surge, boundless storm, and ball of lightening making me really mobile on the battlefield and mixing in with as much crit chance and weapon damage as possile with either dual wield or bow to keep my health up as much as possible.

It sucks that they did this. I have been playing this way up until VR3 and just respecced all magicka destro and resto staff today and im already better than my stamina dual wield/bow build. Sorcs seam easily the least flexible out of all the classes. Its either go the cookie cutter staff, magicka, light armor build with the same skills as everyone else. Or be subpar at best.

They nerfed impenetrable and made it completely useless, so you crits will hit hard. Even with 100 CPs in reduced crit dmg they would only hit for 25% less. The crit Rush on my Templar usually hits for 10k+, so that would be a 6k heal. You still might need the heal from rally from time to time, Ehen facing multiple enemies.

Thats tempting to try out at least.. How much weapon power do you have?

Also how much weapon power and spell power is good in pvp?

I would have to check my actual stats but the EU server is down at the moment. I can tell you the gear im running: 5x Hundigs rage, 4x shadow walker, 1x blood spawn, master 2H, master bow. Buffed I should be arround 3k weapon dmg. I am running blue magicka/stamina regfood, so i am arround 2.5k stamina reg and arround 1k magicka reg. Enough to cast some spells and to dodge for a while if needed.

I am Templar so I have 5% more weapon dmg, but the sorcerer has better cost reduction for all abilities (5%) and ultimates (15%). Your crit chance will be close to 50% thanks to the medium armor passives.
