There's hundreds maby even thousands of possible builds. Every one can't be good.

you ever play dark souls 1-2? there are thousands of dif builds... you can role play your fav anime character and be bad arse...
you ever play skyrim you could play as a pure alchemist and beat the game on master easly.. ive literally beat it with out any perks in anything other than armor and alchemy ...

in mmos you have to build accordingly to be any good... you cant role play or like me just pick a skill line and perfect it... you have to pick the highest dps skills in order to be viable..

this is my issue... just like WOW your gonna have everybody running around using the same skills.. sure you have 4 classes but its pointless because all classes will be clones of each other once someone post on youtube the perfect build for each class... the game will have lost some of its replay-ability because like me now i will start a new build and work on a better sorc... maybe even a healer but if i knew how to build the perfect build then all i need is one playthrough...

sry im hung over i know i babble lots but i hope you guys are getting the meaning of my op...

only a few builds rule the pvp, the rest are strickly pve

That because in PVE/offline games. You are fighting NPC's with limited AI. In PVP you are fighting other players. Tends to be harder. Not a rule but in general your average player is still more intelligent then your average AI. Again: not a rule because there are some pretty stupid people out there. But still..

And no, many classes have many different builds. And not everyone can play the same build. Some builds require more player skill and low latency then others. Some are used for ganking. Some for solo roaming. Some for small encounters. Some for AVA. Some for Blobbing. All kinds of builds. It is quite diverse.

There are good pet sorc builds out there. But...

It is like this: in general you can go for sustained dps or burst dps.

Sustained: generally lower but it keeps on coming. Easy way to do this is with dots and spammable attacks. All adding up to lets say 6k. Now the guy you are fighting can either defend/heal the same rate or higher. If thst happens: you will generally not win that fight.

Burst: high instant dmg but synchronizing different attacks to hit at the same time. A sorc can easily get that to 20-25-30k (unmitigated). Depending on the enemies defenses the burst can either instagib him or get him into execute range. If your burst can not do that: again, you will probably lose.

Your. Build has NO burst and very low sustained dmg. No matter what you do, with your build: Your dmg is going to suck. Blame the game, blame us or blame yourself. Dont care. But there you have it. Ive seen sorcs with pets and 2handed do great. The pets pepper them with sustained dmg and the 2hander mixes in burst/execute.

You original build has NO mobility (and sorcs have best mobility of the game so kudos for that one). No burst, little sustained dps, weak defenses and almost no heals. The entire idea of this game is to mix it up (it fails at that because there are still fotm builds). But you have your eyes set on staying in one specific branch because... It is what you like? In congratulate you on your principles. Up to a certain point at least. You want to be a summoner? Great nice go for it. But that means using pets. Not: sticking to the summener tree line no matter what. Use pets and skills that synergize with them. Make sure you have high enough dps. Either good defense (healing/shields/tanking) or good mobility. People have been succesful at using pets and having all the aforementioned. Your current build does not.

i understand completely, this being my first mmo i should have read up on my build b4 i built him... instead i jumped right in and had fun... now i have to grind hard to be viable and i have to say that sux...

If you expected to kill him by relying on your pets and some light attacks then you need a better build and strategy.

There are some really great videos out there with build info and everything.

thats exactly what im talking about... i have to use a specific type of build to be viable in pvp... my build isnt going to cut it even against a lower lvl player.. thats the same thing from WOW... "build you player like this and you will do lots of damage" then why even have daedric summoner as an option?

Can I just stop you there for a minute? The player probably was not LEVEL 34, he was RANK 34, with much skill and experience killing players in Cyrodiil. That death recap says their rank, not level. You guys were most likely autoleveled to the same level.
Power level to CP160 in a week:
Where is the end game? You just played it.
Why don't I have 300+ skill points? Because you skipped content along the way.
    Where is new content? Sigh.

That guy he was trying to kill is level 34 and he is a tyro which is rank 5 or 6 based on the icon after his name. He may have 1000 champion points but he hasn't pvp'ed much on that particular character.
  • GodlessMimicry
The assumption that he is an inferior player just because of level is foolish though. Auto leveling keeps most stats in line, and while players that are naturally higher level will have access to more skills, a better player will use them more efficiently, and that is the guy. My Level 45 character got the crap kicked out of him by a Level 11 dude recently. I'm not particularly great nor am I particularly crap at PvP; he beat me because he got the drop on me and knew how to use his character's skills better. There is always someone better, and sometimes they are lower level.
  • TheElementalPlatypus
All I see from this is an inexperienced player making assumptions off the "play how you want" advertised method of this game.

You said it yourself you jumped right in Sorry but this game doesnt allow you to play like an idiot and come out on top due to level. Sure gear/level matter and even a LOT to an extent, but in a one on one as you described here, it doesnt have quite the impact. Saying you have to grind to have fun or be viable is a ridiculous statement, there are these things you have called eyes, this great tool you have called a brain, I highly recommend using it and actually putting forth the effort to understand and play the game correctly.

This mentality you have wont get you any further than you already are.

You've gotten a lot of advise thus far. I'll add a couple things:

When you catch someone unaware like that, always open with a full heavy attack - you'll get a lot more damage out of it and increase the chance to proc the elemental effect. If they stay AFK, along with the skills below, continue using heavy attacks.

Don't use Destro Touch or its morphs as your main damage dealer - use it with the built in timing or you're just overwriting your last DoT and sucking up a whole lot of magicka in the process.

You're not going to get mass damage out of just your familiar attacks. When the health gets low, desummon for the bonus damage and the stun.

Crushing Shock gives you four benefits in one. You get all three elemental damages and a chance at all three status effects, plus the interrupt. (Incidentally, that's what you got hit by when his friends showed up.)

Don't rely on light attacks. Use medium or better, they'll do more damage. Just hold the attack for a fraction of a second longer.

Like previously mentioned, get a rotation - learn the timing. Keeping Curse, Destro Touch, frags, etc all going, but without overwriting the last cast and you'll chip away at any opponent. You'll get maximum output while maintaining your resources.

Last recommendation, zoom out your camera.

If you don't widen your field of view more, you're not going to see what's going on around you, and in Cyrodiil, it's pretty much a requirement if you intend to stay alive. You would have had a chance to see his friends coming and perhaps been able to use the environment to your advantage (breaking line of sight using rocks, tress, etc.)
Just because you don't like the way something is doesn't necessarily make it wrong...

    Earn it.

so basically my whole build isnt viable? all the skills you mentiond are not even unlocked... i maxed out my staff and my daedric summoner... thats why im upset with this game... why would they force you to spread your points out across all 3 trees in order to have a good build... with my sumoner build i destroyed pve but in pvp i get 2 shot and i have to work at killing them...

once again someone verifies my op... "in order to be good at pvp you have to use (insert skills)...
oh well what if i use?
"nope, you have to use the skills i mentioned"

The best experience anyone can give is to gain experience from death.
Take a good look at your death recap and make a spreadsheet.
Note whats doing the most damage and think about what you need to do different to avoid it.
If there is nothing you can do to avoid it.....start asking questions.

Skills arent really balanced that well.
You have to do ZOS balancing for them finding the broken and bugged stuff.

eg Nirnhoned armour makes magicka damage null and void.
Sharpened hammers do an uncanny amount of damage.
Combat skills having different execution times.....meaning 2 or 3 attacks can arrive at exactly the same time.
Animation cancelling will remove all warning of incoming attacks.
Many have played on PTS for months finding all these strenghs and weaknesses that are not obvious nor public.
Join a guild....I am sure some have a very very long list ;)

Oh ..and that level 38 could have 500 CP points.

    @flamingoboot76 try this out:

    Bar 1: Destro
    Velocious Curse
    Hardened Ward
    Crystal Frag
    Drastic Minefield
    Crushing Shock
    Meteor (U)

You can swap in Streak but be smart about what you swap out.

    Bar 2: Resto
    Healing Ward
    Mutagen or Annulment
    Illustrious Healing
    Structured Entropy or Invigorating Drain
Elusive Mist or Streak or Boundless Storm - decide dps healer or escape and save lives
    Devouring Swarm or Meteor

This is for the Sorc who likes dps and wants to show a little face time, but is a threat with range and can self sustain healing. Thought process: get the damage and get out, build space to heal and proc.

    Thoughts?

my build is a pure summoner, i was using abilities as well. bound aegis and empowered protects me from attacks, plus i was using daedric prey on him which in theory does lots of damage... i was using light attacks from a level 50 fully maxed out vet lvl staff in between using daedric prey... so your saying a lvl 38 nightblade is more powerful than a vet lvl2 summoner? and yes im new to mmos but not new to the elder scrolls... so how am i way off on build diversity when i clearly got dominated by an inferior player, again in theory... that tells me a pure summoner isnt viable.. so i wasted this much time perfecting my player only to find out its not a viable pvp build....

I wouldn't say some of those attacks you were doing are the best at your disposal, but you also gotta remember they battle level up non vets, so they are equal to vet power levels.

And I kind of hate the word "viable" in MMO talk. It's viable, but you'd have to build it a very specific way I would say (others have given you build descriptions in the thread already). But viable doesn't mean you insta-win everything just because you want to run a certain build just for the heck of it. I mean, I run a templar in pvp (healer tank build) and it's "viable" in what role I play, but if I fight someone one on one, I'll probably never be able to kill them (and they might not be able to kill me) but it serves the role I play well. If I want to solo, I need to change that build up. A summoner build might serve several roles well and be viable in them, but frankly, it's not possible for every build to be just as good at everything else, otherwise- no variety in the game. And don't forget, just because this guy was a slightly lowe level doesn't mean he's inferior or new, this could be an alt from someone that knows what they are doing (and that has more champion points even).

you have to remember also you say a low level 38 but once that low level 38 come in to cyrodil he is alot stronger do to battle level he would have 29k +15k magika & stam.
now you on the other hand lost the battle level once you become vet so you could be alot weaker then him if depending on your build
NB v14 / DC / Shades of Jbugz
DK v12 / DC / Fear of Jbugz

    Now Playing on xbox
    GT : J Bugz 3
    DC for life
    Magika NB

Keep in mind that noobs under vet 1 get a nice buff. I would say vet 1 is the weakest level and then vet two. Your health pool is most likely around 20k if you are doing all magicka since the pet damage is based off magicka and the buff that other guy puts his health around 30k. I can take down a v14 faster then someone under v1. The buff is stronger than most people think.
Did you have mines to protect you?
Did you have shields to protect you and your pets.
holding block when you weren't attacking?

    You need high magicka.

Good luck. It'ss not bad and it can work.

    Watch your shield bar closely.
