Would you support ESO taking a FFXIV style break to fix it?

If today ZM said they would be closing the game temporarily (for a few months) to fix all the issues, add stuff DESPERATELY needed, also to make it so there wont be so much maintenance, would you be ok with that? sort of like how ff14 did and the came out with FF14 ARR. i know i would more than welcome it. would suck, but i want this game to be what it CAN be.

I think the vast, VAST majority of players do NOT share the opinion the that game is "broken" making a repair of this magnitude "DESPERATELY needed".

I know I don't. It's not perfect, but it's not broken by a long shot. I have to voice my opinion in strong disagreement to OP here. No need to shut it down, let it continue and let us keep playing it.

If you're tired of it, then maybe take a break for a while and come back. I've done that several times. After 2-3 weeks away, I come back to the game and find I am still enjoying it. I don't try to power level, but I do have a VR11 char now that is my main.

In short, it doesn't need this.

Still, if in another year the only new content we've gotten is Imperial City, I will probably stop playing in favor of something else.

i dont see much DLC coming to this game, the F2P killed this game. crown store? laughable items in there except the costumes. only thing they will release content for regularly will be the crown store. everyone ive come in contact with in game on ps4 and have met on this game dont plan on using cash shop past upgrading to be imperial and buy maybe one or two costumes. if this game dont fix things quickly people wont give it another chance. shutting down the game for a hour or two a few times a week is lame.

How long have you been playing it? I have been since beta. I have never experienced it being shut down more than once per week, usually on Monday morning, when most of us are at work anyway. If your only experience of the game is on PS4, then I suggest you do yourself a favor and try the PC version. It's much better than the console flavor, IMHO. I bought an XBox One just to play this game, and have gone back to exclusively playing it on PC.

i have it for pc and ps4, im not very good with KB and mouse, the add on that allows xbox one controllers is bugged and dont work right, im not very good at PC stuff, asked for help multiple times and no one seemed to care, so i came to the ps4 version. bough the game on launch day for pc though.

What are PC requirements to play ESO? Just curious. All I have is an Ultrabook. They have so many options that I like that I can't get on the PS4. I can't imagine an Ultrabook, even a new one, could play an MMO. Plus it's Windows 8.1.

I think if they were to do something like this before the Console release it would have been okay, but since they released it to the console, already knowing the issues before hand, a situation like this would probably be devastating to them. I don't think most would come back to the game after that, just my opinion though.

No! I would not support the game being down for longer than normal maintenance/patch.
The game has a few bugs and could use some balance, but it is far from needing shut down.

First, it's B2P not F2P - and that isn't semantics, it makes a huge difference both to the commercial viability and to the type of players and their commitment to a game. Most importantly it makes a huge difference to the type of items a developer needs to offer in the cash shop. B2P is altogether better than F2P.

Second, so far as initial downtime on console is concerned, take heart from the PC experience. If that is anything to go by it won't be long before the downtime is scheduled for once or twice a week with console players complaining because there isn't enough downtime for server reboots and maintenance  ! You won't believe how stroppy some PC players get when scheduled downtime is cancelled because ZOS don't consider it necessary (and the players do)!

The reason there isn't any significant stuff in the crown store yet is partly because ZOS are staying true to their word and limiting it to largely convenience items, and partly because they have been devoting all their resources to the console launch. They know that they have to pick up speed on additional content and I firmly believe they will deliver on that.

People always caution against judging the state of a new game at launch, and say you should give it 6 months and then assess the state of the game. I'd apply the same criteria to the console launch and suggest that the state of the game on all versions should be assessed in 6 months time rather than a week or two after the console versions launched. However, the beauty of the B2P model is that not only are you free to wander away and come back later but you can stay and play for no additional cost if you want to  !

ESO at its core is a good game. The quests are a lore buffs dream and are really well written. It just needs more mmo'ness. It needs more immersion, world building, my character actually lives in this world kind of content, housing, real territory conquering, type of game play. This is what mmo's are all about. An escape into an alternate reality where you your charater exists. ESO is slowing going this more immersive direction. But I don't think it needs a final fantasy year off to achieve this.

I played XIV for over a year at the start despite it's abundance of issues. This game is not even remotely in the same 'bad or broken' state that FF was in. There is zero need to shut the game down.

I wouldn't do it on console but PC for sure. People are taking voluntary breaks as it is because we were, and still are, pretty much abandoned until probably toward the end of the year. Now would be a perfect time to do this on PC where there is nothing to look forward to for some time.

I think it would be healthy for the game. The bugs and imbalances are so bad right now I had to greatly reduce my playtime to keep me from starting to hate the game.

I would say it would do more harm than good but with any luck the new incomes should mean more hires and more content down the line.

The problem is been burnt out already and trying to revive it and for me ESO needs the things like player housing and small scale pvp to get me pumped for it again.

Then again fallout 4 + star wars battlefront + mass effect 4 and some other titles are going to chew my time up anyway.
i spent over 1200 hours + in new vegas and more with mods (re bought it again just for pc and just for mods lol) so maybe im not the target audience.

Ahh well can always hope lol never know a year from now ESO could be an entirely new game. :)

Hell no, stop come up with these kinds of crap topics.

The game is fine, sure it can use some new content but the game itself is not bad at all. Every MMO has issues in its first year, maybe ESO has a few more but not nearly enough to take it offline for a year or so to "fix" it. Not needed at all, the "I want it now" generation should just be patient already and enjoy the game as it is now. Look at games like SWTOR and GW2 both have been grown into very decent MMO's with tonnes of features, but all was not there at launch or even in the first year. MMO's take time to grow.

If you done everything go play something else for a while and come back when there is new stuff to do. And again stop making these topics as it does not help you or anyone.

the problem with everyone here saying no is you all seem to be fine with having bought a game thats this messed up. or that missing basic features like a chat box... afraid of gold spammers? let me tell you something, sure at first you can assume some RMTs would pop up, being transfer over from pc, but do you really think they will last? no, the reason is they dont hand farm all that gold. i dont claim to know a ton about programming and coding, but from everything i have read and people i have talked to, in this game it is claimed to be terrible by a lot more than just a few. people are like nooo dont shut down my game /cry. get over it there are other games out there. sure i would be a little upset, but if it ment this game would have a lot less maint* and no more glitches, bugs, and have some simple quality of life items added id be all for it. im not saying add stuff that breaks the lore of the game, but a chat box is just one of a few items that SHOULD have been in the console version from the start without question.

I wouldn't equate "disagreeing with a complete shutdown of the game to fix issues" with "being complacent with issues". While I am routinely disappointed with post-October 2014 ESO, I also recognize that the game's mechanics are - generally - solid.

This was not the case with FFXIV on initial release. The combat system, the class/job system, the leveling system, the questing system, the crafting system, environments/zones and other less central systems were all chunked and completely redesigned for ARR. Generally, the only thing kept from XIV V1 to ARR was the art assets.

ESO simply needs content and bug fixes (a lot). You're proposing taking a sledgehammer to the game when it isn't at all appropriate - or needed.

Been playing since beta, rarely comment on the forums but do a good deal of browsing at work. Good god these topics. I get it. Different strokes for different folks but geez. I have played nearly every single mmo of the last 15 years. Every b2p, every p2p, f2p, p2w, you name it. I am overwhelmingly impressed with ESO at this point in time. Sure during the early stages I was a bit perturbed with class and build balance and what not, but I just don't see these as issues anymore. Why is someone's first option never, "hey, this game's not my flavor, I think I'll move on." It's always, "this isn't for me, let me cry to the masses for change so that hopefully this game will transform into those other games I do enjoy." I used to catch myself falling asleep playing ff arr. The same goes for WoW and countless other copy/paste mmo fare. I actually enjoy logging in to ESO. I don't mind the quest/level grind because hey, at least I'm not killing ten boars and returning to point x to deliver their hides to non-speaking npc A. At least I'm not grinding mobs for rep. I'm not standing afk in town for no reason. Bugs will be fixed, content will be added. Enjoy the ride or get off, it's totally your choice.

And on a side note might I add: Some added quality of life things would be nice to help with immersion. But don't cry about immersion and being bored when you've not sampled a little rp action.

I think the console version and PC versions should take divergent development paths, maybe even have a new spinoff studio take over. That way the game can be heavily modified on PC without it affecting Console and vise versa.
Really we do it without like, the musical instruments. This is the only musical: the mouth. And hopefully the brain attached to the mouth. Right? The brain, more important than the mouth, is the brain. The brain is much more important.

What are PC requirements to play ESO? Just curious. All I have is an Ultrabook. They have so many options that I like that I can't get on the PS4. I can't imagine an Ultrabook, even a new one, could play an MMO. Plus it's Windows 8.1.

I don't see what win 8.1 has to do with anything? My games play just fine on it...
(Then again, I played games and used applications just fine on Vista too, despite it apparently being totally useless for anything, so maybe it's just me)

Imo taking game down is an overkill.

Why they cant just let the game run. Make weekly server reboots with exactly same game version as it was before not touching a thing thus not breaking a single thing. In meantime they work on game at the backstage.

I don't think it's anywhere near broken. In fact, I think it's highly polished and I'm really enjoying it so far. This has been one of the most positive experiences I've had with an online game in a long, long while and I've played every major MMORPG (except SWTOR) that's come out since 2004.

If they shut down now I'd never come back. After stealing a year of my gaming life with the promises they've been making... no. It would be over between us..sniff.

I won't support anything, not nothing not no how.

Game has only been out on Console for 3 weeks or so, would be a very poor idea on their behalf.

As a player of ffxiv for more than 4 years now I really hope they do. There so much that needs to be reworked and fixed. And so much more needed content.

Why would you shut this game down. Some people (Including me) payed 120 ish dollars for the game for what? It to be shut down in 3 weeks? Your essentially wasting consumers money, even if this is a problem for some people, I have noticed very minimal problems which were fixed in about 30 minutes.

Yeah basically if ZOS shut it down, most console players will probably be wanting a refund.

Wot? If it needed more content, that needs to have been done before release, not adding it in after. Anyway the very aspect of an MMO is that Expansions gradually are released. Anyway tweaks will be patched in, it's an online game, not actually that much testing you can do with people bogging down servers and what not.

I get that. I'm pretty happy with the game but I would much rather see servers shut down for awhile so they can overhaul it than for a year to roll around and they decide to shut them down for good. I would love to see ESO having the success that FFXIV had and having that reassurance that ZOS won't abandon the game.
