Ashen grip is the best crafted set early on for a melee or bow damage dealer.
At higher levels (once you've researched more traits), look into night mother's gaze and hunding's rage. For a very long time now my nightblade has been running 5pc hunding's rage and 3 pc night mother's gaze for massive boosts to weapon damage and critical rating. Running around a 50% critical chance on my 2handers right now, slightly higher with my bow.
You wont be getting much stamina recovery from armor sets. Your racials and class/weapon skills will determine how efficient you are with that stamina bar, nightblades can get 30% passive stamina recovery from the shadow tree and another 10% from assassination. At higher levels, you can pick up siphoning strikes and never have to worry about your resource pools again.
Your set bonuses should be geared towards raising max stamina, weapon damage, and critical chance. Bonus weapon damage is particularly hard to come by, so any set bonus or jewelry you find with increased weapon damage is worth using - it will effect not only your light/heavy weapon attacks but also any ability that uses stamina, like surprise attack, ambush, or killer's blade.
