Dual wield needs a skill redesign

People are using 2-handed weapons to play assassin/rogue types, because dual wield dont have any useful ability for that. The only good ability is AoE(?!). People use class skills for assassination/stealth attacks, and the two daggers, that should have a stronger sneak attack, and a strong poison attack, havent. See skyrim, a 15x dmg on sneaking... Im not saying to do the same, its a mmo... But that kind of skill design is expected for dual daggers and rogue types. Now with this wring design imo, we are using class skills only and 2handeds, leaving behind the most common weapon for our kind of character.

I do find it a bit odd that dual wield is focused on AoE, while two handed is focused on single target, seems a little bass-ackwards to me.

I wouldnt mind seeing a rework, dual wield should focus on single target damage. Two handed is well-off as it is, but I think one of the passives should cause all of your two handed attacks (both light/heavy as well as abilities) to hit all enemies in your frontal arc. If I use uppercut with a greatsword or maul, I should be able to throw two or three enemies into the air with it.

Switch last two skills for some real DW linked skills, they're kind of silly. Only one other good skill could make DW so much better and competitive with the 2H in Cyrodiil.

BUUT it can wait, there are other things that have priority.

It also seems weird to me that a skill line that one would assume is a DPS skill line has only one DPS ability, rapid strikes/flurry and one good AOE steel tornado.

The problem with rapid strikes is the channel, in PVP it is almost impossible to hit them with the whole flurry as no player stands in one spot for that long, even if you CC them, they usually break free way before you can finish the attack. Compare this to uppercut/wrecking blow, which is very easy to hit somebody with from stealth, or during a fight, and does comparable damage, and can even make the next attack more powerful, and it's easy to see why 2 handed is preferred.

I am using DW as my main bar (with 2H as secondary but used exclusively for buffs). DW has higher base weapon damage, and i like the versatility it gives with flying blade - strong close combat capability(NB skills) with decent ranged option. Also allows for replacing the flying blade with steel tornado for zerg fights.

If they can change it, they need to change a few things:

    - Make the heal mechanic of twin slashes proc from the initial damage as well as from the dots. That way it will work with mobs immune to damage over time.

    - the passive ruffian needs to include snared, bleeding and poisoned targets as this will create synergy with the rest of the abilities.

    - flurry or at least one of the morphs should have a mini charge attached to its first hit, kind of like a sticky targetting.

    - Make blade cloak an active ability rather than reactive. It should deal damage to targets closest to the player and the morphs change to either deal damage with an increased radius or to deal a single powerful poisoned dagger Everytime the target is hit.

    I agree on that.

Skilllines provide a set of utilities to one type of playstyle.
Like Heavy Armor for tanking or Bow for ranged/kiting combat.

Sure Dual Wield has some aspects: One AoE, one healing DoT, etc.
But every spell there can be replaced with one better.

You can't even take DW for more weapon power (as there are two weapons), because 2-Handed has this covered with one passive.

Heavy weapons for the 2H does the same thing as Twin blade and blunt does for DW.

I do that to...on my NB and templar.

Now do it on a DK or sorc. They have no class skills to slot on their DW bar, to replace the lack single target dps or gap closer. Than DW only functions for AoE spam. Which is cool and all for grinding trash, actual monsters or a poor public raid melting from Steel Tornado. But what else can you do with DW?

DW needs a basic single target skill and maybe a gap closer. For sure they can also remove even more crucial and much appreciated magicka morphs from class skill lines and make them stam. But I rather see devs re-designing some less useful weapon skills or adding actual new skills.

They should change it to just passives that boost magicka. Thats really the best part of dual wield.

i also use DW as my main bar on my NB. in PvE, after i AOE down mobs, i resort to surprise attack as my main single target dps. i use DW for the weapon damage.

EDIT: i'm playing around with blade cloak though for tanking and maybe even dps. when i tank, i'm trying out a few runs with DW/1h-shield where i use whirling blades to help with some dps for trash mobs. blade cloak stays when you swap to 1h/shield as well, which is nice.

once sparks was taken out to be replaced with that nonsense damage shield dual wield lost all its purpose, the magic based class skills are better than the stamina based physical weapons, its rly bad my main was a nightblade stamina build but I got to about lvl36 when sparks was removed for being "op" - I tried respec with bow and sword shield but it's just not fun

I find it a bit weird that Dual Wield is better at AoE while 2Hander is better at single target. Would've thought it should be the other way around.

The problem with Dual Wield is you cannot access Major Brutality without having a 2Hander (for most classes), which means a Dual Wielding build is more often than not an exclusively melee build. There is Flying Blade to compensate but one skill doesn't compensate for an entire skill line (Bow). Lack of an inherent gap closer is a lesser problem, though again Flying Blade is supposed to compensate for that apparently.

Having access to poison damage would be thematically fitting and makes Morag Tong having daggers more sensible.

I think most weapon skills are pretty good actually, with a few questionable ones. There's certainly a lot of useless morphs though.
