Cheap Palomino!

I bought this game pre-release ,paid through the nose for it. Now, I could buy it literally half of what I paid for it.

Pretty normal economics here, thing is I don't really care how cheap it is now, as I've bought something and been enjoying it.
Been here since Feb 2014 - You'd think I'd be half reasonable at this game by now...

I really wouldn't expect the palomino horse to be priced as one of their mounts that's supposed to be special and rare. The new guar will probably be priced as the existing guars, and the palomino will probably be priced as the other regular horses.

I agree with your assumption. I am however not looking forward to all the outrage and complaining that is going to come from them lowering the price of the horse, if you're right, but see no reason why it should be any more expensive than existing horses.
Oh man @Ley I was planning on digging up that exact post :)

I'm really puzzled why anyone ever thought the Palomino was supposed to be limited or exclusive though... I don't remember it ever being advertised as either. It was available for cash for almost a whole year before the Crown Store came out, and when the Crown Store came out there was a lot of talk in the forums about "wait, where's the Palomino?" That doesn't sound limited or exclusive to me. Especially as, after a little confusion when ZOS employees didn't seem to be sure whether the Palomino was gone for good, or coming back, they clarified in multiple threads that it was coming back.

I will never understand why some players need this "exclusivity" aspect in video games, all for the sake of feeling more elite than another player. Not so they can be competitively better, just so they can feel better. It's a video game! Let people enjoy it for crying out loud.

See, when they advertise something as exclusive and you buy it and then they turn around and make it non-exclusive, that is called: misleading.

When I pay for something that isn't what I was told I was paying for, I'm probably going to be upset.

And guess what? YOU GOT EXCLUSIVITY! And you still have it! It's exclusive to those who pay for it. That's it. And up until now it was exclusive in an additional sense: purchasing it before it was no longer available for purchase.

Saying something is exclusive does not now nor has it ever meant that no one else will ever have any sort of opportunity to obtain it. Exclusive: "not shared; available to only one person or group." Guess what that group is? Those who pay for the item. Not "get it now because it's going away forever!"

EDIT: Again, I will never understand why a decent human being would actively want something for the sole purpose of having something that someone else cannot obtain, especially when that item provides absolutely no gameplay enhancement whatsoever.

This one's tricky. I don't think ZeniMax ever said the mount was limited when it was released. Just that it was a post-launch mount option.

But official support says the Palomino was "available for a limited time" instead of using a more accurate phrase such as "temporarily discontinued upon the release of ESO:TU." That would far more accurately describe both the Palomino and the digital Imperial upgrade.
    https://help.elderscrollsonline.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/6491

I can definitely see the argument that the Palomino should be at least 1500 crowns. Even without the fire-farting appeal of the Courser, the Palomino is good-looking enough to establish its own mid-price horse category that the Imperial Horse could also be added to.

But, literally every company does this. Limited does not mean now and never again. Riot does this with their legacy (old) skins in League of Legends. Every single time they sell them they claim that it is for a limited time, and every single time they come back in a sale. Limited means simply that: limited.

There were several posts by moderators etc saying that the horse will not return. Surprise! It did.

    I feel somewhat cheated too.
I hope for this game to continue for a long time, just like WoW has.
They have mounts that now, since being such a long time, are extremely rare.

I was hoping to get ahead start in the ESO exclusivity.
I hope in 10yrs time, the BETA monkeys would be rare(ish) and other more so exclusive items such as the loyalty rewards and (prior to this) the Palamino would be extreme rarities.

    I guess we will see.

Umm.. which mods are you talking about. All the mods I have seen that have reply to posts wondering if the palomino horse coming back on the crown store said that it will return they just did not know when. Stop edging on misconduct.

    Dear ZOS,

I feel like I have been had

Back in may last year (4th of may 2014, to be exact), I bought the Palomino horse for 90 DKK (12,06 EUR), because I thought it would be a limited mount.

Now, a year later, you have brought it back - now in the Crown Store. I really don't mind that it no longer is a limited item. I do however mind that I have paid much more than it is worth! It costs 900 Crowns in the Crown Store, and you can buy 750 Crowns for 53 DKK (7,10 EUR) or 1500 Crowns for 99 DKK (13,26). That is quite cheaper!

If you absolutely have to re-sell limited items, at least make sure that they are priced the same as the original offer - or else you risk, like now, that people feel cheated. I bought the senche leopard mount when it was limited, for 2500 Crowns - will you be re-selling it at half-price in the future too? If so, I see no point in buying limited over-priced items.

I love the game. I subscribe, and will keep doing so. But I must admit a bit of respect has been lost. This is no way to create a loyal fanbase!

Please take this into consideration next time you decide to do something similar. Thank you

(Now I shall return to playing the game, and try not to get annoyed at my horse...)

We need to know the change in exchange rates to determine if OP is really getting "ripped off" as he/she states. However, ZOS is pretty loose with their words when it comes to marketing. When someone says that something is available for a limited time only, most reasonable consumers expect that to mean that it's available for a limited time and then it won't be available again.

They don't expect it to mean available for a limited time until we decide to offer it AGAIN for a limited time.

Whether intentional or not, consumers are misled by these types of statements and they may feel urgency to buy the item if it won't be available again. ZOS gets a boost in sales because rational consumers hear the limited time message and take them at their word. It's not honest if you continue that language knowing that the de facto effect of said language is to trick consumers into buying the item under the presumption that it won't be available again.

No where did it ever say the Palamino Horse was to be a limited mount.
What ESO really needs is an Auction Horse.

People fall for these kind of sales tactics all the time out in the real world, why should it be any different here. That's like one of the biggest rules in sales, create an urgency for the customer to feel like they need to buy your product now. They're not lying to you or misleading you they're just saying, if you don't get it now, you may have to wait till later before have another chance to get it.

True story, first time my wife and I went shopping for furniture we saw a big sign, "FOR A LIMITED TIME 50% OFF ALL FURNITURE!" we went and bought all the furniture for our house thinking we got the most amazing sale/deal in the world. Guess what, a month later we came back and they had a new sale, "FOR A LIMITED TIME BUY ONE GET ONE FREE!", a month after that, "HOLIDAY SALE!!! SPEND OVER $1,000 AND WE MATCH YOUR PURCHASE WITH STORE CREDIT!", the trend followed month after month. They didn't lie to me, they just never pointed out that they always have some variation of a 50% off sale going on or in other words, they mark up their prices by 50% to make you feel like you're getting a deal. This example is a little different I know but the idea is the same, they created an urgency for people to buy their product now.

Just wait, once the crown store has been around long enough, they'll have periodic sales on items in the store, you'll see stuff like, "FOR A LIMITED TIME, GOLDEN EYE GUAR ONLY 999 CROWNS!" a week/month/year later, they may decide to have the same sale.

Um. Limited time only does not guarantee that it will never happen again unless they specifically append that information.

When McDonald's has McRib sandwiches, or any of their special menu items, they are for a limited time only.

What leap in logic does it take to realize that I wasn't talking specifically about the palomino horse, but instead on the subject of exclusive bonuses that ZOS has doled out to the public later?

And yes, the things I'm talking about actually were advertised as "do this, and get something nobody else will have".
