So I was trying to figure out what I liked about ESO....

brandon.coker101_ESO
I was trying to figure out what I liked about it so much. I think it’s because it reminds me of all the 80s fantasy movies from when I was a kid.

Movies like:

Legend, Clash of the titans, Dragonslayer, Time Bandits, Willow, Beastmaster, Excalibur, sword and the Sorcerer, Conan….etc.

All those. They were adventures back in the day and ESO kind of brings back that adventure feeling from when I was a kid. It's not like WoW (not WoW hating because I played it a ton) where the majority of the game is just character building but it's more of an adventure imo.

Anyone else get that from ESO?

For a lot of players it is lore and setting. Well, this is because I started to play.
    Make sweetrolls, not nerfs!

Its the Elder Scrolls, and to me that says one thing, Adventure! Weather you are playing the great single player games or ESO you can be sure of one thing that you are definitely in for a grand adventure. I like the single player games better. It is cool to see other adventures running around and making the world feel more real in ESO though. All in all though ESO is an Elder Scrolls game and a good one at that.

    Elder Scrolls.
But OP, it is true that elder scrolls always reminded me of those movies as well. Good old classic fantasy adventures!

well, being that the TES universe came about in the early 90s it makes sense that the flavor is more like that of D&D and "classic" fantasy. It is good to see that ESO didn't abandon that.

I know we were all pretty worried when those first images popped up back in 2012

While ESO is "stylized" I think we all agree that the art direction is spot on. The look of ESO is one of the things that ZOS just straight up knocked out of the park.
What ESO really needs is an Auction Horse.
    That's right... Horse.

It's always interesting looking at screenshots from early in development and seeing how much things have changed!

    "Development is crazy"

Quote from ^ Gina Bruno last ESO live regarding "putting a bucket on someone's head" :)

I'm listening to it on youtube as we speak....by the way someone else posted it, it's not on your youtube site yet. :)

We need more mo-cap vids of Gina from 5 years ago imo...
Force weapon swap to have priority over EVERYTHING. Close enough.
Make stamina builds even with magicka builds.
    Disable abilities while holding block.
Give us a REASON to do dungeons more than once.
Remove PVP AoE CAP. It is ruining Cyrodiil.
Fix/Remove Forward Camps. They are ruining Cyrodiil.
Impenetrability needs to REDUCE CRIT DAMAGE. Not negate entire builds.
Werewolf is not equal to Vamps/Bats.

Chaotic minds are needed to think up anything good.
Ordered minds are needed to bring the chaoptic ideas into a final product.

Who should be surprised the whole thing may look a little crazy sometimes? ;)
But the result says, its a good kind of crazy! :)

And I am very happy about the way development took ESO from these early images to what we play today... but then, I always disliked cartoonish looks that remind me of stageplays, and preferred the somewhat grittier realistic-ish looks of the elder scrolls series...

For me it's the outstanding graphics . I'm not even a Medieval Warfare style fan . I normally play Sci Fi games . Somehow the design trapped me and the stories captivated my attention . Now I'm addicted to this game .

Along time ago I played some Dungeons and Dragons before video games were even available at home . The art work of Larry Elmore brought the game to life in my mind . His art was all the "graphics" I had to go by then . ESO reminds me of many of his art pieces come to life . I never imagined after seeing Pong on a TV , this day of Fantasy MMO gaming would ever exist . It's pretty amazing through my eyes .
