What about these essentially PvP useless hard CC skills (Rune Prison, Agony, Petrify) acting like a de-taunt when used on players? Similar to Warhammer Online where you could cast it on a player, they deal less damage to you, but if you attack them the effect breaks...

For example: The Shaman skill "Look over there!"
You Detaunt your target, making them hate you less and causing them to deal 50% less damage to you for 15 seconds. If you attack anyone that you have Detaunted, the effect will immediately end.

50% would be way too strong on multiple targets (not an issue in Warhammer due to cooldowns) so make it only work on one target at a time and maybe lower the percentage a tad? This would make the skills useful in group PvP and 1vX and give players the ability to turn the tide when out-numbered without having ridiculously un-fun chain-CC like we see in other games.

    I'd like something like this, in addition of real, working CC (Crowd Control, not "damage reduction" or "drain stamina").

    I don't think it'd be a big problem if there were unbreakable CCs that broke from damage.

    Make them last max. 10-20 seconds~, be blockable, break from damage & give 5 second immunity after they break and you've got a whole new depth to the gameplay.


    Also, I'd like to see CC actually required in trials (e.g. mobs or boss adds that you'd have to CC with Agony or Rune Prison etc in order to not wipe).

    hard CC doesnt have a place in this game. The pve and pvp design both completely negate the need or desire for abilities that function in this way. In PvE, anything worth CC'ing is immune, and everything else is better off aoe'd down. In PvP, every player has access to a no cooldown break-all that can be used as liberally as their stamina will allow.

    Agony, Rune Prison, and Petrify would all be better off getting replaced with damage or (actual) utility oriented abilities. The only CC worth a damn in ESO is area rooting.

    That's certainly an option. I wouldn't scoff at Agony becoming a DoT + debuff version of spiked armor (maybe something like target is dealt 10% of the damage they deal) but that being said, I don't think its too late to completely give up on CC and is still worth discussing.

    Well, I came up with another solution:

    How about having all CCs still be breakable, but giving CCs that break from damage an increased cost to break?

    E.g. you could break Rune Prison or Agony, but it'd cost you 100% of stamina, or you could wait until you take damage from any source.


    This could apply to normal stuns as well, the break cost depending on stun strength (e.g. from 10% to 50%~) to provide some depth to the system.

    I would like to see these skills to be able to pierce blocking in PVP. Both agony and rune prison have animations that blocking wouldn't stop logically. Due to the casting time of these skills it would still give the blockers the option to interrupt if they are paying attention to the cast animation.

    It would start a nice game of cat and mouse... " to block or not to block, that is the question".

    These "useless" skills are fantastic if you like to camp routes with a buddy. Think about it. What is the only time you can't break free?

    Good point, but I'd still rather have an ability that's useful everywhere than one that is useless in pve and only works against mounted players in pvp.
