I did the math when I was in the beta testing and saw the huge amount of skill points needed to actually master a crafting skill. I then decided that I would rather sacrifice one alt to craft everything so I could have my other alts to dedicate to the various other skill lines(night blade, temp, & such). I have so far managed to get around 75 skill points or so from sky shards, am lvl 18 and have lvl 50 alchemy with maxed skills, lvl 35 smith, cloth, wood, with 5 skill points in each till maxed. Of course my enchantment is only like level 15(that one is a BIT*H). I will say that I am not sure how I feel about my choice though, in beta the vet system was not explained very well and if I new that I would have to do every quest for every alliance with every alt I made......well that's another thread in itself. As it stands I'm simply going to level every toon I got to 50/VR1, go play my alts and keep my fingers crossed that Zine does something to improve the replayability of the game.

Yeah I plan on levelling them all between my main and a couple alts. My main will have the bulk of them, save for Alchemy for now. He is primarily a Smith, Provisioner and Enchanter.

I'm working on all, 2 per character.
    Enchanting 29\Alchemy 50 - Sorc VR2 - All skills in both lines except visibility @ 1.
    Blacksmith 45\Provisioning 50 - Templar lvl 47 - All skills except visibilty @ 1.
    Clothier 45\Woodworker 42 - Nightblade lvl 17 - not all skill yet :)

    That's them all covered

Only 1 main character, a little inventory management but not using alts or email bounces.
Alchemy = 20 *Just started, but going to knock out.
Enchanting = 20 *deconstructing but not focusing yet
    Clothier/blacksmithing/woodworking = 47+
    Provisioning = 50

I honestly think this is a bad thing... They should have had a limit to your active crafting skills.

Your math isn't as realistic as you thought (from beta). It is absolutely viable to have a character with full crafting and every ability/passive needed to be effective in up to 2 rolls. This includes 2 weapon/armor trees, all class passives with 75% abilities, 100% racial, about 50% of all 3 Guild abilities/passives, 100% Vampire or WW, almost full Soul Magic, etc. I am VR4 doing the VR++ zones and I can say for fact that there is exactly enough points right now to get everything you NEED.

This is not a cookie cutter MMO, it's The Elder Scrolls 'Online', Zenimax should do the crafting exactly as it is and not conform to what other MMO's do. Have you played Skyrim? Did it force you to do only 2-3 crafting professions per character, no.

I understand that... but it means that anything you make won't really net you any reasonable amount of gold, but since it means I don't spend gold then it works out in my favor.

I am heavily focusing on crafting Medium armor right now. I almost have all traits researched on all Medium Armor pieces. One or two left on all of them. I'm slowly researching traits on Light Armor so I can start crafting that as well, especially considering my second Crafting skill is Woodworking. My final trait on the bow is being researched now and I've started researching traits on all the staves. I hope to be able to make the craftable sets of any variation soon and start selling them.

Normally I'd agree with this but I can say from personal experience so far that crafting in ESO makes you TONS of gold. And by tons I mean there are already people with the full 240 account bank slots (the 240's upgrade is like 80K by itself) just from selling crafted items. Hell, epic food is going for 250-500g EACH, VR4+ Legendary Glyphs are selling for 4K, VR10 Legendary crafted weapons are going for 30K+, etc. The thing is just because we CAN do all crafting on a single toon doesn't mean everyone WILL do all crafting, some not at all.

im working on them all but concentrating on the ones I will use on my main now, woodworking, blacksmithing, runecrafting. alchemy and prov are topped and I consider them basic needs, not really crafting

    Toon 4: Provisioning [2]

I'm fully levelled in Woodworking, Clothing and Provisioning on my main character. I'm now at level 32 in Blacksmithing so I'm including it in and probably will do the same at some point with Alchemy and Enchanting. I have a fully levelled alt with Alchemy though so I might not bother on my main character except to get the Medicinal Use perk.

The only thing my Nightblade is ignoring for now is Blacksmithing, and I still deconstruct everything I get (unless I need money, then I'll sell plain whites). I'm lvl 34 now, and my Provisioning has been maxed out for a while; I can make up to lvl 49 purple recipes via skill points.

At least crafting is useful here, and not just fluff. Since I got Laboratory Use in Alchemy, I've been making some awesome potions that I use up kind of randomly. Enchanting, sigh. I do have 2/3 Hireling though; Abnab has been sending me high level stuff I can't use yet, and some really entertaining mails.

I love the crafting in this game; yes, it probably needs tweaking at higher levels (the ability to make VR10-12 gear, for instance) but it's a good start overall.

My main character is Clothing and Provisioning, and I have alts for Blacksmithing, Woodworking, Enchanting, and Alchemy (1 each of those). The reason for this is inventory space and also to spread out the skill point requirements while trying the different classes, very similar to the method used by @Arsvita and others I'm sure.

My main character will be maxed out on all crafting in time. Currently, maxed out in the armor and weapon fields. Nearly maxed on Enchantment. Not exactly far along on the consumables, but my bank is completely stuffed with ingredients and ready to hit it hard before long.

I decided at launch that I'd do one major craft per character, so I have them all split up:

    Main - 50 Cloth
    Alt1 - 50 Blacksmith
    Alt2 - 50 Wood
    Alt3 - 41 Enchant
    Alt4 - 26 Provision
    Alt5 - 11 Alchemy

I basically leveled up the 3 'primary' crafts on those three characters, then have slowly begun leveling up the others (focusing on enchanting now). There are always issues in MMO crafting systems, but I do love my crafting :).

One is Cloth and Woodworking at 50 with 6 Traits in Cloth/Leather and 8 Traits in Wood. She is also 30 in Alchemy but retired
One is Blacksmithing at 50 with 6 Traits and Provisioning (retired) at 50
One is Enchanting Only and at 39

Retired means at a respecc I put no points back into those skill lines.

My wife has a provisioner maxed.

I have four characters with crafting skills (aside from hirelings.) so that I could collect traits and level skills faster. Now I am self sufficient aside from Nirnhoned. =/

    I'm primarily a Tailor (Clothing)
    my current status is:

    Alchemy 50
    Blacksmith 50
    Clothing 50
    Enchanting 48
    Woodworking 50
    Provisioning 50

    My character is at VR8.

Once you get to 50, the next skill to pick is the bottom one for all the smithing skills so you do need to use as much tempers to raise the quality of the items you create. This one will save you a lot of time and gold.

I picked was the extraction skill, so I have a chance to extract high quality tempers.

The rest of the skills I didn't really find a need for them

You can use the research skills until you max out all the traits and then re-spec your character later and use the points for another skill. Re-spec is really cheap now; my character at VR8 costs less than $10000 gold to respect.

I stick to one character who is lvl 50 in all crafting. But I leave Prov/Alchem to my buddy. I do Enchanting, Woodworking, Blacksmithing and Clothing (all current motifs learned and started on 9th trait on them). I know it harder way to go vs multi toon usage but that the point, I like the challege!
