OP
You of course realize that Volcanic Ruin is a Mage-guild skill and not an NB skill. The NB class itself without being a Vampire (or using other skills from Fighters or Mage-guild) can not even pull a dead Herring from a wet plate.
Just saying....
All successful builds I have seen are Magicka builds with Vampire and Guild skills. I have as yet to see a successful Veteran build with only the skills that are available to the Nightblade as a class.
Just saying....

While I see this as a great solution to many situations, I would also like to see other potential setups that are equally effective without using any guild abilities.
Not slamming the setup by any means, just looking at the other side of the coin, as players should never be forced to join or build rep with any guild. What if a player has a personal issue with the mage's guild (x,y,z reasons, it doesn't really matter why).
The gist of this, is that players should not be "force into" having a specific build to be effective. There should always be multiple ways to achieve similar results. I believe this is where many of the NB players are coming from as they want "choices" instead feeling they are forced into a singular cookie cutter skill requirement.
Good post though, I would encourage anyone to come up with more viable setups

So you can start with a volcanic rune or two to start, then do your rotation with hitting light attacks betweeen the whirlwind. When out of resources turn to one of the mobs and drain essence which will usually give you enough stamina to finish off the pack. The whirlwind is going to be a lot stronger at the end of the fight than the beginning anyway.
I felt the same way (love Ambush for extra single target burn) .. although:
1. Veiled always out performs Teleport Strike unless used as a gap closer
2. The Lotus Fan snare I hear buffs Whirling Steel even more via Ruffian passive
3. Points for not starting with WW. You have weapon swap, so why not Rune, Power Extraction, Impulse then pop to DW ? Spread the love around for resources and not take a ~24% damage hit for Siphoning Strikes
PE will make Impulse way stronger. You will break the wep damage softcap, which no other class is going to do (unless uber geared vr10 perhaps)
While starting out in staff, you can always Swallow Soul to get sweet regen ticks, heck may as well pop Inner Light IV for 20% crit on magic bar. Think that's 5 now
Many abuse the quick generating AE ultimate for NB as well for builds like this. (or eventually Flawless Dawnbreaker to mitigate the Siphoning DW bar.)

see sorc surge ability.

Going 5light could benefit in the magika regen area...love the build, might have to try it...
I prefer going 5 Med/2light, this is purely for the passives Veil of blades is a single target DPS i dont recommend useing it if you are fighting a group of mobs.
