I think you're wrong. Shortly after relase of TESO there were much larger battles without mass disconnects and rollbacks. I played at the same time you said the "megazergs" were active and I've seen those battles, but there were no larger numbers of players than I have seen a lot of times before without any mass disconnects then. So I say this is a new issue like the (now fixed) fps drops were new.
If you disapprove of large zergs and therefore of massive battles, please do not project it onto the players and blame them. Zenimax is responsible for the performance of this game - nobody else.
